Yeeech - that in itself would be a pretty good argument AGAINST nerfing them!
Actually, now that I think of it, the fact they changed essence is a pretty good clue they will NOT be nerfing shadow form. If the concern was the ability to maintain shadow form permanently, they would have just changed SF itself and not bothered with EoC. Given the way they have handled SF in the last few months, it is obvious that it is ANet's intention to keep perma SF but to force the player to give up 3 skill slots to do so.
whether that is good or bad I don't know.
On the one hand, it doesn't really hurt the game. Let's face it, there is no such thing as "game breaking" in PvE anymore since it is essentially and irrevocably a single player game now. That horse left the barn with Nightfall and it ain't coming back. so if I can do a few extra things solo and get a few ectos with my sf/sin once in a while, great.
On the other hand, it wouldn't break my heart if they nerfed it either. In many places sf does make the game too easy. And in those places which have counters for sf, trying to use it is a complete disaster. There isn't much middle ground with SF and I doubt that was what was originally intended for the game.
But the fact remains, removing perma sf really wouldn't do a darned thing to make the game either better or worse and the change to EoC probably indicates SF is here to stay anyway.
Orrrrr.....
Maybe Ascalon had a bumper crop of pumkins this year and they really want to help out the poor pumpkin farmers by jacking up the price of pie when it starts dropping in aabout 3 weeks
