I'll take whatever they give me in improved storage--I need a bookcase for all the new books I'm carrying around.

I will appreciate any increase in storage. I have two "mule" characters that I keep trying to convert to "play" character slots without success. They are having their second birthdays this month. Perhaps this will help me make my goal.

Thanks to ArenaNet for the continued interest in my enjoyment although I haven't given them any money in over a year.

Increased storage.
This will bring me back for a good hour.
I guess it's a nice update for farmers and people who hoard everything....

From what I've seen by nosing around, I'd guess they're looking into ways to produce more specific, but more efficient, forms of storage rather than simply adding more slots - things like the festival hat maker and material storage rather than just an extra tab.

Looks like a plus to me. More people means more potential for new stuff. Reading between the lines, it may also mean there are people being released from GW2, which likely indicates progress on that front as well.

It was a 10. No-one used it. Even at 8 it's not worth an elite slot when compared to Golden Phoenix Strike. 6 you might have an argument for.

No they're not.

Solo players have soloed even before heroes. Co-op players have co-oped even after heroes.

I remember back when the guild I was in was thriving. Some players never communicated and never played with the other guildies. With the addition of heroes, they were still the same. They still never communicated and never played with the guildies. But I remember the guildies who did regularly communicate and play with other guildies. With the introduction of heroes, we played together even more. I remember the first few months heroes were added. We finally were able to complete UW, FoW, do more Tombs runs, etc. That's when I really got to feel some of them as my GW "family". Ah~ those were the days.

Heroes = One of the best additions to the game for both solo AND co-op.

First I have to say thanks to Anet for continuing to work on and update GW, even if it is on a rather infrequent schedule. Thanks too to Regina for wading in and posting here on the forums more frequently (at least in this topic).

A storage update, for me, is bittersweet. Its something I long desired. All nine of my characters save one got relegated to storage mules and I began getting rid of things long ago just to try and save space for the things I wished to keep. I very much hated the item juggling I had to do between storage and characters every time I played, since each mule has a category or two of item they hold. My monk's armor sets are all over the place. I salvaged a number of my former characters' (now mules) elite sets just to make space for them to now be mules. Those characters lost many things they would otherwise have kept had I intended to play them anymore. Whole thing was just upsetting and still is.

Still, I'll be curious to see what is done with storage. I cant see how anyone would find it a bad thing. Late, yes. Frustratingly too late for those that got rid of many things they wouldnt have wished to, or went out and bought many new character slots. Oh well. I still applaud their finally doing something about it.

I think my favorite thing above all is news, feedback and some comments from Regina, indicating that they do at least read and listen still.

Id agree with this.. some times I want to play with others, sometimes I dont. The addition of heroes meant that I could do what I wanted more when I wanted as I could "somewhat" make a team for the situation rather than using the henchies that were usually poor in comparison.

Ever been sat around in a mission area with a "less wanted" char profession? Thats why heroes are a good addition to the game.

Ok, here's my unsalted opinion:

Extra storage? After almost 4 years, most people have bought extra character slots for mules or an extra account.

What's that crap about new content? Sorrow's furnace, BMP etc. are examples of new content. I don't see any reference of that kind in that dev update. Not that I expect such content, but stop fooling yourself and the comunity with bags of air. You don't have the manpower on GW1 to bring 'real' new content.

@Live team: There should be one priority (regarding pve) on your list: 7 H E R O E S

Sure you guys did a good job last 6 months, better than nothing. It's time to get your chest wet, and not only your feet.

I dont consider storage to be "content" either, but remember that's included among the HoM changes, as well as possibly some other things not mentioned. I agree with you that the Live team probably hasnt the manpower for any major content additions, but they can add quests and NPCs and the like. Not sure the deserve crap though for this announcement when really its simply their use "content" vs "features", a semantical issue, that can really be singled out as any cause for disagreement. At the end of the day, its new "effort" put into GW by the team and I think it deserves a bit of praise whatever we call it. At the very least, balanced thanks and criticism combined.

That's not fair, we've gotten a ton of storage upgrades in the past 4 years. It's just been about a year since the last one. The people who bought multiple character slots to mule crap, well, I'm guessing ANet isn't just going to give us an extra 100+ slots (what is that, 5 storage tabs?) with no restrictions.

@Aera lure: I'm a fan of this wonderful game and Anet and this Live team, don't get me wrong. I'm critical yes, that's because the standards are high.

Can say the same: Storage, don't need it anymore, 7 heroes don't need them anymore. Extra holiday quests, I don't play them and they only last as long as the holiday.

Sure not everybody wants 7 heroes, but it's a feature many players would like imo. But more interestingly, it will open up new brain training sorta speak and that's the best sorta 'new' content at this point imo and it's realistic. The system already exists, they even tested it. It's all in the 7 heroes topic.

@sky high: yes we got extra storage the past 4 years and that was great and needed. Still it wasn't enough and people bought character slots (8 euro for one?) and extra accounts. Also most of the storage tabs came with a new campaign (except materials tab) if I remember correctly, so we bought them. Now they're gonna spend limited GW1 dev time to storage.

Anyway, I'll be a good boy: Thank you Anet!

I'm pretty critical too. Its just my nature, having been in so many crits. I always try to find something positive and something that could be improved when I'm sharing my opinion. I'm not always successful. I think really highly of Anet as well. Wasnt really singling you out to specifically disagree with so much as share another angle that wasnt so far from your own.

Yeah, that's a common argument for seven heroes and its even a valid one. I dont happen to share that opinion, but its reasonable. I'd like to know their list of priorities. Guess we wont get that considering we possibly dont even have a list of all the things for April.

not due to a skill. pfft
I loled at your logic. You'd think ArenaNet would honestly remove a profession from the game? That's why whomever you're debating is talking about the skill, since we know all too well that skills can be significantly altered. And no, there's no 100% chance that the people you've met wouldn't have supported Guild Wars if assassins didn't exist. Who knows, they could have switched to another profession and liked that one? I'm sure they have a second favorite profession if the assassin is their favorite profession. We have character slots for a reason.

My friends bought GW prophicies for the same reason.

And I know for a fact that there are people out there who bought Factions only because there was the Assassin class.
...Though I doubt that that number is nearly half their total sales? I agree, there are probably some that wouldn't have gotten into GW if it wasn't for Assassins (same for any other class mind you) but I think that number is pretty darn low. I think a vast majority of players that bought Factions were either established GW players or people that picked it up because of whatever reason people will pick up a new game (Friend recommendations, colorful pictures, pretty ladies on the box, etc.).

ANYHOO BACK ON TOPIC!

I like the idea of having more storage space, whatever they implement. I know I've been hurting in recent months for a little more space to store all of my armors and new things that my characters seem to have started collecting since EotN's release.

Thanks!

And for all those that wish for Arenanet to continue working on other things, like 7 heroes or Palmstrike.. where does it say they won't? As has been pointed out multiple times in this topic, and in the original Dev update itself, the storage additions are only part of what they are working on for April's update. Perhaps they have a few others things they are working on that they aren't disclosing. Like the big April surprises, such as the endgame area for Prophecies or Hardmode. I would be disappointed and surprised if they had just revealed the 2009 April surprise today as just the new storage options. Or failing that, maybe they're planning on releasing other ideas in the next big update a few months after that. *Crosses fingers for a hair dresser*

Besides which, isn't the entire point of this update is that they are going to separate the content updates from the monthly skill updates? That being the case, all this talk about why they aren't doing anything about Palmstrike is pretty much moot since it's (probably) going to be rebalanced along with all the other skills on Feb. 13th just like they've been doing, separate from the new content update schedule that people are complaining will take away from the skill updates.

I have to say i'm not overly thrilled about the storage updates, primarily because I was one of those who has purchased additional accounts (on the cheap) over the last few years. While the opportunity to stash my tomes on my account rather than another would be nice, its not making me want to run around screaming like a toddler on lemonade. I am interested in the HoM updates and whatever else is on the cards. So, cautiously optimistic from this player.

The planned updates are great, if you are not that excited about them then so be it. So far I have not read any post that is AGAINST the storage update or the rest of the update.

These updates are not really new content though, it would be nice to have some new quests/missions and new content. Anway, it would still be a nice update.

Well I'm sure excited about getting more storage. Bummer though it's gonna take so long... I hope they are going to add storage for:

- books (it has been discussed on Linsey's wiki)
- armor per character (at least 4x5 pieces)
- materials cap of at least 1000
- minipets!

that alone would take away 90% of my storage stress. But I'm happy with anything they come up with.

I also hope they'll add some sort of inventory/storage account-wide management function, so you can quickly swap around stuff amongst your characters + storage without the tedious logging out/in out/in over and over, while forgetting what you put where...

No part of it either unheard of nor unique, and it wasn't the first online game with no monthly fee.

It was a great game and all and evolved and popularized a number of concepts that were somewhat uncommon at the time, but let's be realistic here. It's just an RPG with an online option and a 3D chat component. It's not terribly different from the player perspective from playing Diablo II on bNet years ago (obviously the infrastructure is more in line with WoW than bNet, but it doesn't appear that way to the player). It's just a lot prettier than that was.

Quote:
There were also issues involved with the way storage was designed/programmed in the code -- and these issues couldn't be tackled with just a month or two lead time, not with the number of people we have on the Live Team.
See, this is nice. A round-a-bout but honest response. Somebody dicked up the code and now it has to be fixed. 'kay. Makes sense. Unfortunate, but makes sense. Bummer for whoever got stuck with that crap task though. Trying to figure out someone else's boneheaded code is never a fun thing to do.

While I agree that there is much nonsense being posted; I found no forum rule that if someone posts an update, that is all that can be discussed. By your definition to say thanks for the update is not allowed because it does not debate the effects on the game.

I am interested in the comment that there will be both "account-based" and "character-based" increases to storage.

I've been thinking of different ways they could implement the account-based improvements (e.g., a storage tab for dyes, keys, tomes, or perfect mods). That would all be cool.

But what more interests me is the "character-based" storage. Does this mean that we will have 20-slot bags? An additional spot to place a bag? Armor storage or mini-pet storage in the HOM, etc? I think it would be really cool if they made 20-slot bags random drops at the end of elite missions or a lengthy scavenger hunt.

If they just hand out the increases, people will just take it without a whisper of gratitude. If they make us work for it, there will be a lot of QQ'ing by those that have stopped playing (and some others), but most active players will appreciate having to put in some effort to get the reward.

Does anyone else simply like the game as is? It's the only video game I play really, and I've been happy with it ever since it came out of the box. I play it because I enjoy the content that I originally purchased, not because I'm expecting a shiny new car every week from its developers. I thank Anet for anything they choose to add to this game, because if I were them, I would have taken my money and ran, rather than sticking around to deal with my b.s.

The bread-and-butter mechanic of RPGs is, was, and will continue to be the excitement of discovery. It's how games like WoW and Diablo, with their painfully simplistic grind mechanics, still manage to keep people hooked: the knowledge that some new enemy, item, or area is coming up after I collect just a few more wolf pelts.

Most people won't keep playing if there's nothing new to do, so they need to update things. I would suggest, however, they do something more significant than just storage if they're not doing an update until April. MOX and z-keys, while I personally didn't care about them, were a good move, but they're competing with LOTRO and WoW releasing expansions, EvE will be releasing a new content update, and all those games constantly add new areas, quests, events, NPCs, items, etc.

Unless they intend to try and market Guild Wars 2 from a dead stop in a few years, they really need to keep this game up to date to retain players so they have a little bit of momentum going in. It won't matter how great a game it is, if they can't get enough people in the doors at the offset to help recoup losses incurred during development, it will fail. Ask Lord British and his experience with Tabula Rasa if you want to know how that goes.

Which is why you'll never be a successful business owner. Customers are often stubborn, short-sighted, naive, and ignorant (the last part compounds multiple times when talking about video game nerds with an internet connection), but they're still the ones holding the money, so you still have to smile and oblige them to a reasonable extent.

1) Increases to account-based storage
2) Improvements to character-based storage
3) Account-based changes to the Hall of Monuments
How I read the above (Wishlist interpretation)

1) = Extra tab on "Xunlai Chest", where I can put items that are "for sale on a price I set for each one" and people can buy them from there wether I'm online or not.

2) = "Trade bag" where I can put items that are "for sale on a price I set for each one" and people "in the outpost I'm in" can buy them when I post an "Open market" post in the "Trade Section" of "Party Search".

3) = HoM will be turned into a server(s) wide "Trade Station" where you can find all "Xunlai Chest" sellers and trade with them.

Ok, I might be off topic, and I might sound like a trade freak, but I would easily become one if there where "content updates" in that direction.

And plz don't flame me, I don't look good in red or burned-black.

Other that that, ...

I welcome any game update, of any kind, from the people that still support this game actively in all of it aspects, and more than that, they still keep a close eye on the game's community and all the ongoing criticism/suggestions posted, and respond to that in the best way they can afford, at any given time.

I was a bit pessimistic earlier on. I should be happy with the storage improvements as it was one of the three things I thought would improve the game some time ago.

1. Storage
2. Auction House or alike
3. 7 heroes

One will be implemented by April, okay wonderful. Better late than never I guess.

My apologies to the Live Team.
