They are selling virtual space, so Ill pay with my virtual gold. If you would like to reimburse my gold for real money, then Ill be happy to pay with real money. Bottom line is Anet is selling AIR. Its free to breathe it, so whats the pricetag for?

As you are aware, ArenaNet has been working diligently on an account and player storage update. They recently released this about their upcoming April update.

  • How long did we wait for them to complete this "super storage update?” Not once did we see any mention that we would be charged for additional storage in the update.
  • Do not enable Anet to do this by saying "well it's anet they need the money and I will follow them into volcanoes and insult anyone who says otherwise". NCSoft is a corporation and it's their job to herd their followers and convince them that they need money
  • Don't even say "Well maybe the price could be lower". Why is there even a price on storage space in a game this big? How long has storage been an obvious issue? How long has Anet been saying "We're looking at ways to improve your storage"?
  • Yep, I won't spend anymore real world monies on this game. It's broken beyond belief and they want us to invest money in it? Not gonna happen as far as I'm concerned.
  • This update is a test for the community - pass it (overpay) and you'll kill the old good business model.
  • Springing this "We have all of this new stuff to give you, but you'll have to pay for it" stuff on us is BS.
  • Think how much have you already spent on GW, and how much bang for your buck have you got. How are the new $10 panes looking now?
  • The City of Heroes people (another NCSoft game) mentioned how cheap server storage space is and how it isn't even a factor in stuff they do.

  • The price will be lowered with time. As with the prices for campaigns, character slots etc.-added april 15
  • Its OPTIONAL!
  • More storage takes more space in database. Bigger database - bigger hard disks.
  • I'm fairly sure that there will also be free upgrades to storage
  • Anet can't make everything for free. They need some money.
  • US$9.99 is reasonable
  • Do people forget that Anet does not make us pay subscription fees like other games do, but need to get their money to fuel GW from somewhere
  • You pay for the convenience of not having to transfer between characters. Yes that is a total of 9 tabs + material storage.
  • Its storage, its not needed to play the game
  • ANet's marketing seems to think they can get $10 for them, so I guess they know something we don't.
  • Charging for extra storage tabs in your Xunlai Chest is not a game decision, it's a BUSINESS decision
  • If you need it bad enough youll buy it otherwise it wont matter anyway.
  • Anet can charge $3,500 for a special edition Gaile Grey minipet if they want, as long as they aren't forcing anyone to buy it.
  • I'm not going to boycott my phone company whenever they add an optional service plan.

Hi, cloud. I understand your perspective on this. I've been keeping an eye on the community response on this. I've already spoken to folks in the business team several times and conveyed all of the different responses to the storage update, including the opinions that it's "overpriced". We know that some people will choose not to buy this feature for any number of reasons. However, we've also seen a large number of comments from people who intend to buy it.

Since this is supposed to be a discussion board -

I did think it would be free. I also think $10 each is really pushing it on the price. However - and this might just be my naïvety - I'm more than willing to pay for it since the money Anet receives should either be going towards GW2, or hiring staff for GW2. So what if they are looking for a way to gain money? The rest of the game is free to play, and without some sort of income they're not going to be able to even support servers. Hell, most of the money they make is probably through second accounts for XTH.

I don't think I'll be buying all four storage upgrades, but I'll probably get at least two. Also, it's not like they're forcing you to buy it - many people get by without the storage as is, whether using mules, second accounts, whatever.

Do you think that ArenaNet is just using this storage update as a source of income and its sole purpose is not to benefit the GW Community?

People complained about wanting more storage, so now they're offering it. They're not saying "Oh, by the way, you're going to get an extra storage pane and we're charging $10 for it". It's optional.

If you really want to boycott it, talk with your money instead of complaining about it here. Because personally, I'm a bit sick of seeing every other thread someone complaining about something that's not to their personal taste. Suck it up. You're not the only person out there.

It's not like you can buy a game advantage with this. Farmers and armor ho's would be more than willing to pay 10 clams for that much extra storage.

As Verene stated, if there is something messed up in gameplay, or something someone is doing to you, bitch. If it's just something getting your undies in a bunch, don't buy it, but quit going all revolutionary about something which TRULY DOESN'T MATTER.

Also, if you get something for free, but still want more, it's pretty common to have to pay for it. This is like walking into a coffee shop on your b-day, and you know the owner, they give you a free cop of coffee, but you want a 20 ounce and not a 12 ounce. You gotta pay for it!

I think it is funny that a new account/game costs 10$ on some places(mostly 20 $ on the other side) ,and a storage tab costs 10 $.
I am not sure should i be amazed how cheap the game is,or how expensive the tabs are.
But anyway,i wont QQ about that,it is optional and you get one for free,but still you buy a account and you get 2 tabs with it in xunlai. xD

we are getting free stuff anyway, and micro-payments are a perfectly reasonable way to support a business model so long as you aren't forced into it. Having played near 4 years, I can't say I "need" more storage. So if I "want" storage more than I want $10 then I have a choice.

What doesn't make sense is the cost compared to say an extra char slot, or even an extra prophesies account (as little as £6-7 in UK, <$10) but that's NCSoft/ANet's affair.

You don't need to purchase anything...

They didn't even have to release any updates to the storage they said they would but it didn't mean it had to be free at all if you do decide to purchase it. You said you expected it to be free, yes in one sense we get it with the equipment. Also the possiblitiy of a free storage pane.

So buy the extra copies of the games. They can't stop you from getting a much better deal that way if you want storage.

Personally I think they could have added something like sharing inventories between all your characters interface, instead of more panes for the pooplai chest which is a monument to inefficiency to begin with.

At least they did one thing right in the equipment storage. It will not help books, quest items, mods, runes, and most of the games clutter, but it it's enough to throw in 2 sets of armor and 10 weapons that's at least a dent in frustrations. Now too bad those things are so old there's little to adventure for anymore.

Places that are selling it for $10 are discounting it. The actual retail price is still ~$30, or what Anet sells it for. And that's what you'll find it for pretty much everywhere but newegg and amazon, for the most part.
