I did consider trying to starting a blog calling for a boycott myself, eventually decided against it for two reasons.
Firstly there are large numbers of players who are well able to pay and will do just that, so the boycot wouldn't work.
Secondly Its their game they are entitled to price things however they wish.
I can buy all four games for £25 giving me plenty of storage via a second account.
Or I can buy each game for £10 or buy a new Character slot.
All of those are better value than buying extra storage though they are not as convenient as having more xunlai storage tabs.
I will get the extra pack for each character and see how this opportunity to gain an extra tab actually works.
Doubt I will buy any tabs myself its just far too late in GW evolution to make it worth while.

Please think about that for GW2 and any future GW2 based expansions.
Let players buy slots early in the games evolution and they will be far happier and you will sell many more.

I will not pay for extra storage, even if the cost was $1. And I would certainly not use the PlayNC or In Game Store (for anything).
I have wanted extra storage since the beginning. I am glad that some is being offered free, and will gladly accept it. Many clamored for more storage space, and some even said they'd be willing to pay for it. ANet has finally responded.

What the OP is complaining about is something that was stated up front to be entirely optional, that you could choose to purchase. They didn't hide anything.
It would of course be an entirely different matter if they gave people the impression that it was free, and then turned around and said it wasn't. But this isn't the case, so I don't see why people are upset. I don't think it's exploiting the players - they have to find a way to fund that extra storage, and people have said they're willing to pay for that extra Xunlai anyway.

GW has been and continues to be a no-fee-to-play game. I believe that they originally did that because they believed and cared for gamers and felt that we would prefer it that way.
In the past they have continued that tradition; however, this is obviously a ploy for money. The price is way too expensive considering what you get and I highly doubt that we will get any storage tabs for free (unless you win some "contest").
In the end, I think this is a bad choice and a bad direction for GW to head. I really hope that very few people buy storage tabs so they will see that the community does not like being ripped off. Tbh, I'll just keep buying mules. It's the same price, you get more storage, and I can actually play the character if I want.

I think we should be thankful that they've actually given us the ability for more storage space. We get some for free anyway, so that's a nice thing. You can choose to buy or not to buy the extra if you want (as has been said). On the other hand, perhaps a tad overpriced, but they need to keep things going somehow, so yeah. In anycase, I'm just glad they've finally given us a bit more storage. Thank you anet.

I don't think a boycott will prove effective here. However i'm sure the anet people have seen the number of people who think that is too much money wise and will change it before the actual update is implemented. $10 for an extra 20 item storage slot is steep for what you're getting. $5 would be reasonable, i think.
I'm just hoping they hear our concerns and will give some thought to lowering the price.

We get an extra storage tab AND an equipment tab for no charge. You have not seen how much the Equipment tab holds, but it is safe to assume that it will hold more than a handful of weapons and an armor set.

an opportunity to get additional account storage for free and the option to purchase more storage if that's still not enough.
How many gold/green weapons do you store on your mules?
How many armor/weapon sets do your mains carry?
Most, if not all those items will soon be out of your current inventory spaces.
You've played up to now with the storage you have, and soon you'll be getting even more.
So what's the problem?
