Boycott the Storage Update!

I'm not going to boycott my phone company whenever they add an optional service plan.

I doubt I'll need more than the one we get for free, if I do I'll buy another. I don't see me needing more than that. If I do, I'll buy it. Not at all unreasonable to charge me $10 for something extra that I don't need to play the game

For people that are saying that ANET needs to charge $10 per tab due to hard disk space, keep in mind that if people actually knows what they are doing 20 slots really shouldn't take up much space at all, that or ANET needs to hire competent database programmers. Not saying whether it's justified or not to charge $10 since it does take alot of effort to making the changes to the game engine, QA/QC to allow for these things, but the hard disk space shouldn't be THAT big of an issue.

Keeping track of items that you heros are holding takes up more disk space than 20 slots.

$10 US = $18 Au way too much for 20 slots when you can buy the whole game for that price.
Dunno what the exchange rates are for other countries but people are forgetting we ALL don't pay just $10 as stated.
I would pay if it was the same cost as a char slot after all they do have to make money to keep going and running servers.
Drop the price please Anet you will still be getting sales.

I will not be buying extra storage. I bought extra accounts for that reason in the past.

I'm not buying more storage for numerous reasons. When I heard we were getting a content update, I thought that meant that players were getting new content, free-of-charge. Springing this "We have all of this new stuff to give you, but you'll have to pay for it" stuff on us is BS. If they would have said beforehand that it would be only available through purchase, then it would have been no big deal.

That aside, I don't need more storage that badly, because I've been dealing quite well with the storage I've had for a long time now. It's near full, yes, but I would probably be better off using or selling a large fraction of that stuff than being able to stick more junk that I don't use in different places.

Plus, it costs too much anyway. The same amount in cash can get you a storage pane of 20 slots or a character that can have 45 slots, plus a weapon and offhand. The convenience of having the slots readily available to any character doesn't really make a lot of sense to me, since we're already getting the space for holding some armors or weapons, which will probably do well in saving space for lots of people.

I'll be looking out for the promotion to get the fifth pane, because as far as I know, it will be free. Until they follow suit for the last three, I won't be getting them, and couldn't care less about it.

Also, lots of people out there in the world shell out hundreds upon hundreds of dollars to buy gold for other online games and to other companies. Why is spending $10 measley bucks too much, even if you can get a character slot with more storage for the same price?

I don't know about you lot, but I'm going to support Anet for all they've done for us these past years and working pretty much for free outside of the expansions. I don't farm in Guild Wars. I don't even have that much equipment. I just want to support this company because I see them as brilliant workers and I want to continue seeing them pave a wonderful path for Guild Wars 2.

$50 for three campaigns, and all the item space that comes with them. Better yet, I've seen it for around $20 in local stores (either way, much more storage for less money, plus those who enjoy having bunches of characters or reserving names can do so), so... lol @ microtransactions trend. Guess none of the crackerjack space saving guys at HQ realized that it's better for the players to spend less money and take up more server resources than to spend more money for less. Good luck with that, ArenaNet. By the way, you may want to button your coat; your NCSoft is showing.

QFT, I wont be buying anymore, my 33 accounts are just fine for me now. If I run out of space now, I will buy an extra account. It will benefit me more for an extra account.

I picked those 3 things because they'd be relatively easy to do, and should have been done years ago, yet still haven't. If Anet wants that much more money, they'd best expect to do a damn sight more than adding some storage tabs. 4 Storage Tabs, or a new PS3 game...I mean come on, this is the middle of a f***ing recession, just how retarded are they?

Man, Ive been playing free to play MMOs with cash shops for a long long time now and love the idea of optional purchases to keep the game going with new content updates.

What I dislike however is time limited purchases and EXP / Drop rate increases.

Optional purchases and should be things like extra character / storage slots, and weapon and armor skills, plus maybe some nice uber stat PVE only gear every few months, like say put out a piece of armor with extra stats that cant normally be made in game, you can buy it if you like, you get better armor, MMO company gets their money to keep the game going, or you can choose not to buy it and keep on playing for free.

Its still a lot better then fees, especially if you are a casual gamer - you dont have to pay every month, get nothing for it, and lose out if you can only play a few days a week, instead you just play whenever you like and buy an extra little something whenever you please.

The optional purchase model is perfect for MMOs, in GW they could maybe also make purchasable PVE only skills, oh, and also make those EOTN consumables purchasable. Play for free and be forced to use real skill, or if you want an easy god game / joyride, pay for it.

***Purchased items are NEVER to be created for PVP obviously***

I hope that GW2 has a cash shop with optional goodies.

Poll options 1 and 5 are identical - don't separate them.

No reason to pay $10 for 1 extra pane to hold only weapons/armor, when you can get a full account for $10, giving 4-8 characters and 2-4 panes to store ANYTHING.

I was under the assumption this coming patch was free, and added nice methods to store weapons and armor (I assumed slot stacking of some sort on each CHARACTER)...

It's really not worth it. Somebody at Anet is bad at math.

I'm having a good laugh about the 'donateware' people out there - they would buy this even if it was only 1 row (5 slots) per $10

So I got an IDEA!
Make a new title for them! New option in Online Store: Spend $10 or equivalent to get nothing but 10 points to a new title! No max rank!
It could look like: "I Love ANet ($780 donated)"

Oh, and looking at how awesome deal we're getting with the new Xunlai panes it could be an exception - buying them should also increase the donate title xD

I will not buy any extra tabs for a game on its decline... Oh yeah some "egg" place online is selling the fractions for $10 and free shipping so consider buying a "new" account and using mules like i have done in the past.

Seems like the OP missed the part where it says one pane is free.

Not only has the update been postponed past April 9th, they're not only dropping a monthly skill balance, they're making us pay cold, hard, real-world cash for a piece of the update.

As someone before me has already said: There's no way in hell I'd pay $10 for storage, but I'd consider paying $20 for a good skill balance.

I'm gonna be one of those guys that doesn't care if you picket it, I'm going in. I work for a living and I go to college full time on my own money. Eat one less fast food meal one day of your life and get the upgrade if you need it.

It is a promotion.
I sense it will be something like "Buy 4 storage upgrades for 40 bucks and you will get 1 more for free."
I hope I am wrong, but can't help this bad feeling...

As I said in a previous post, every addition is a good thing.
Optional stuff is good and this will be useful for those who really want to spend their money on this kind of upgrades.
I really want to support Anet, but I will buy another account instead of this upgrade.

/notsigned - Makes sense to me. They need money, we want storage. So their logical response is to charge for extra storage. Perhaps $10 is too much for 1 extra pane, but I will still buy it.

/Not Signed: Well, since you asked and it's about why I would or wouldn't pay - I'll pay 10 bucks for it. It wouldv'e been cool free of course, but I make plenty of money don't think that it's too overpriced at all. 50 bucks won't put a dent in my wallet and I dont think I'm being taking advantage of - either of which would probably change my vote. Anyways, you ask what my reasons were, and without regard for anyone else (people can stand up for themselves), those are my reasons :-) In fact, I'd probably buy some more stuff as long as it doesn't try to take advantage of the fact. As a side note, I don't buy extra accounts for either storage or the XTH stuff as that does seem a little off to me.

Well, it is a bit pricy, but come on, they obviously need the money and they have given us an opportunity to get one for free!

Think how much have you already spent on GW, and how much bang for your buck have you got. How are the new $10 panes looking now???

If you fail to see a problem here, you may have serious trouble irl - thousands of absolutely horrible deals are everywheree. Being ablle to quickly spot and avoid them helps alot.

That's really about a $140.00+ value for $75.00, darn I'm stupid.

Addition: The $10 panes are looking great. I love Guild Wars and I wouldn't want to see some crap happen because players are too upset over an OPTIONAL package to buy it.

I can see when the april update come outs, mass bannings for people using gwx2 (which is against the eula) and "suspected RMT activity" when they start transferring stuff between their accounts to promote people into buying this overpriced upgrade. I have no problems with micro transactions, playing perfect world atm, but when they are clearing over priced...

One of the very first posts was regarding whether ANet wanted our money or wanted to help players out made it seem like we had to choose between the 2. Actually, it's both. What's the issue with ANet making money AND helping out players with an OPTIONAL method of gaining storage? There is none because it's called....doing business.

Now, do I think it's a little pricey...sure. Will I buy them...no. However, I don't see why all the uproar over something that is optional. Besides, we all get at least another tab for free anyway. Just buy another account, which I'm sure most have anyway, get your extra storage/chars/Zkeys and let ANet do so business. Don't think you're being forced either way.

why would you bother boycotting something for being overpriced?! If it's really overpriced, nobody will buy it anyway. You only need to call for a boycott for ethical reasons, like if ANet's database was powered by a child sweatshop in Africa, wherein children are forced to run on a giant hamster wheel for 20 hours a day in 120 degree weather, without breaks or adequate food and water, and for a paltry 12 cents a day.

I feel kinda disappointed because GW was always about free updates, free skill rebalances and stuff and I expected this update to be the same. We were told that we will have our storage update and now it's turning into a "buyable feature".

I probably wouldn't have any trouble with the way it is if it was something like "surprise feature" coming alongside with update. But since I was told about this storage update before and was expecting to get it for free at some point I can't help but feel down.

well I guess keeping in line with the previous update (materials storage tab), this update is right in line with it. We're going to get some kind of equipment bag and a tab to put that equipment bag into storage - still not sure how it works except it says there are different sized bags, as well as an extra tab if we follow the promotion.

previous storage updates (trying to remember) -> an extra tab per campaign that we bought, then an update that added a materials storage tab. In keeping with the previous updates then it sounds like it's always 1 tab per upgrade (1 extra each time you buy a campaign on top of the original 1, 1 materials storage tab during that particular update, now 1 equipment bag tab during this update plus a chance to get another one via the promo). I think the pay-for-tabs is just on top of the storage update that we're getting. It falls in line perfectly with past storage updates, except past updates were really just 1 tab with no option to buy extras (not counting buying campaigns as buying tabs).

It is similar with character slots really. We originally had 4, then they gave us two extra per campaign we bought, then they opened up the store for people that wanted more so they could buy them. I think I thought there may be a bigger storage update, or rather a different kind, but then again I was thinking of just the storage update and not all the other stuff they're doing, which taken into context seems like a pretty big update. I'm just going off of the devchat on wiki which mentioned other stuff is coming in this update and we've only just seen the preview (such as HoM update, etc).

I think we're going to be seeing more paid additions to GW, whether you like it or not. I'm sure there will still be free stuff, but the fact is ArenaNet decided to make GW2. No matter how much they plan on keeping GW around, GW2 is going to be their new baby - NCSoft's new baby. I don't think they planned it that way, but shit happens. I hadn't planned on getting GW2 so I imagine the only way GW will keep going from my standpoint is if they sell new things for GW - which now will not be new campaigns obviously as they had originally planned.

that's the gist of this, ArenaNet's original plans (at least public ones) seemt o have been scrapped. i think they probably have some major issues for forethought and panning at the top since they've changed plans a few times - as I recall it was going to be expansions and not full-on campaigns, then back to an expansion, then on to another game entirely. because of this their original 'planned' stream of revenue is gone, especially if as many people don't move on to GW2 as they plan. This means in order to keep their promise of running GW (and I'm just guessing, probably no more or less than anyone else here can do given the public knowledge available) will probably means more stuff like this or the (I think pretty cool) BMP. We all know how cutthroat NCSoft can be (their parent).

anyhow, I'm excited about the update and pan to buy all the storage updates and maybe even the pet unlock pack. I don't mind throwing away an hour's worth of pay at it as long as the update actually works and isn't bugged out (I suspect Linsey has it all squared away :-)
