Hundreds of hours for a few equipment pack slots?!?
Amon Warrior
The equipment packs are a nice, useful addition. The problem is the crazy amount of time that you'd have to go through just to get a maximum of 20 slots for armor and weapons.
It is simply not possible for me to spend so much time grinding over this. Whatever happened to skill over grinding? That was one of the reasons I originally started to play Guild Wars. Going after titles and such is indeed optional, but to be able to acquire a useful extra bag you have to grind so much?
I hope to see the equipment packs available in a less taxing way 'cause right now it's really not possible to get them unless you have a lot of time in your hands and a taste for grind...

maybe they'll see sense and reduce the amount required to purchase one.

According to the guru community, repetition = grind. And there is nothing left in GW but repetition. There is nothing you can do in GW that is new and you haven't done dozens or hundreds of times before, unless you are new to the game in which case you don't need the extra storage yet anyway.
These quests are about as varied and non-repetitious as it's ever going to get. If you don't like it, if you think it's a grind... then you need need a new game.

You don't have to do the same quest every day so it's not grind. Just like going out with another girl every night is not grind.

Buy the 5 slot one then.. what i did..
Noone is forcing you to go for the 20 slot one. You didnt have one until now, what makes you feel so forced to grind for it now?
I dont get the posts the last week :/

Well, you don't need equipment packs to pwn at peak performance. If you want to complain about grind, complain about Faction or PvE skills + 10 chars grind.

I got all my chars the 2.5k one from the merch and will only upgrade my main's equip pack to the 20 slot one.

Yah way too much grind, i have 1 gold coin atm, thats from doing the quest everyday bar the PVP ones, so however much the medium pack is (15 slots) il get that.

The backpack, belt pouch and bags that are available to carry things can be acquired from merchants. Now, there's a very visible extra pack in between these other items where you can add weapons and armor.
The way to get it? It took me about 12 hours throughout many days to get 1 gold zaishen coin. The requirements are too high for something like this IMO...

500 copper for a 10 slot isn't bad. 2500 for a 15 slot is grind, but doable by most people. 7500 for 20 does suck ass though.
Eragon Zarroc
if the grind is too much for u, the small 5 slot one should be enough for u, lol. if u don't grind, i don't see u running out of room because u would be against grind farming. if ur running out of space, u can buy some more storage without grinding for equip bags. if u don't want to pay, delete or sell some shit and quit ur QQing.

It's not going to kill you. Be happy something arrived at all.
Gforce
You should try to do the PvP quests since they offer much better rewards and do not feel as grind. I currently have about 120 silver coins spread over my 9 characters (1 character is PvE). I am expecting to have the 150 silver coins by the time the zcoin storage bug is fixed.

It's also getting pretty annoying how my quest log for Zaishen missions and Zaishen bounties is getting backed up thanks to partially completed Zaishen PvP challenges. I can't cash in my bounties unless I cash in my not yet fully completed AB reward that I don't want to cash in until I finish all bonus objectives. And if I can't cash in my bounties, I can't get new ones. JQ will probably give me a similar problem soon.
Wish Swiftdeath
PvP quests are ftw, you usually do them easily by farming players worse than you somehow (TA and HA = case in point).
I've given up whining, i've got almost 4 gold coins so it's not too bad

Daesu
Yes they are not worth it as they are too expensive, and yes the quests are designed for grinding.
Gli
I'm sorry, I can't stand the grind of doing so many JQ or AB battles in a short time. I need to spread those out over a few days for peace of mind. I prefer to do a different PvE quest every day. Trying to get the PvP ones done completely is only giving me more trouble getting coins because they stop me getting more of the PvE quests.
Arkantos
It's not grind, really. You do different quests a day, and you get the coins. If you can manage to be patient and understand that you're not going to die if you don't get the 20 slot bag, it's really not that bad, you just have to work for it.
If anything, I see this as a good thing. It caters to both casual and hardcore players. Casual players can buy a small equipment pack from the merchant or do some quests to get the light/large equipment pack, and hardcore gamers can get the heavy one. More effort, more reward.

On another note, is it possible to trade these larger bags among players, or are they restricted like the coins we buy them with?

If I recall correctly, the items GW had for the hardcore gamer were purely aesthetic. Any kind of player had equal footing with the function of an item: I'd get a no-thrills sword and the hardcore gamer could get one with a rarer skin in the elite areas. However, the damage and attributes would be the same.
Twenty slots is better to carry stuff than five, ten or fifteen. There's an advantage here. Heck, Anet is selling extra storage space because it's something most people want.
If Anet wants to cater to the hardcore gamer, then offer a 20-slot pack that's uber beautiful and sends fireworks up in the air at the player's command. Have a no-thrills version, with the same quantity of slots, that can be acquired by the rest of us common players.
I wouldn't be "QQing" if the difference was only because of appearance.

I don't think that the 'Zcoin bug' is a bug. I suspect Anet wants you to earn the equipment bag for each character seperately
kupp
I'm hoping anet changes this in the future, and I'd love to have Regina or someone else to come here and tell us if they've been listening to us regarding this and if there's any plans for changing the reqs. for the bags in the future. But for some reason, I doubt that.
TheodenKing
Sure it is... at least in my case!
Seriously, though... once they fix the bug where you can't share coins between characters on the same account, it really won't be so bad. The thing I like the most about this addition to the game is it has given new life to areas that have been like ghost towns previously.
Doing the Deep in HM was a blast. Rragar's without having to pay for a run... good stuff.

There are some items with fair prices. But some need a bit of tweaking. Some of those items take too much coins considering their usefulness and pressing need for them by many players, but the rest are just fine.
They have stated that they can't make ZQuests account-wide although they wanted to, and that the ZCoin zing - I mean - thing with the Storage is a bug that will get eventually fixed.

i concur 100% with OP! Lets hope they reduce it too. I have 12 characters in need of 20slot equip packs, so i could replay the zquests up to 12 times, but I don't want to do that! that's theoretically the same as grind.

I like the new additions to the game..but i agree with some that the amount for the larger bags is way off base. Say you are trying to get one for each char on your acct.....see how many months it takes. Should'nt be that time consuming. I for one have many chars all of which have several armor sets and weapon sets so the bags would be useful but not really possible in any reasonable amount of time.
xron
I'm just going to enjoy the various quests and bounties that they offer, some of which I'll need on a character or another anyway....
enjoy having the variety.... something thrown up which I would never have thought of doing otherwise.
So I'll do those quests I fancy, and when I happen to have the coins I need I'll opt to buy a couple of 15 slots for my main chars.
Have managed without until now, and now have extra storage, plus 5 slot bags so.... I can live :P

I would agree with people who say it is not grinding IF they only play one character a day and only do the zaishen quests with that one character, since it probably has been a long time since people have done XYZ quest or killed whatever boss/did whatever pvp. However this will take you a long time to get certain bags.
If you have multiple characters, as the majority of us do, you can end up doing the same quest/bounty/pvp battle 2-15 times in a day. (if you are trying to speed up the process)
Which you have done:
In normal mode the first time you played the game
And again when Hard Mode was added.
And again for whatever titles required you to kill the same guys/get skills
And again to complete the new books that were added
And again to complete the new books in hard mode
And again to get the equipment pack
This is over 2-15 different characters AND THEN you can add to that multiple accounts.
IMHO This is grind. By my count this is the 6th time you have been asked to repeat the same content. True that it is optional to do, but if you want to reach whatever milestone/get an item you end up doing it.
Not worth it at this point, Bought the Small EP's and moved on since I am still working on grinding other things.
Feel free to add other things I may have missed.

It's not grind, there are lots of quests you can do on many chars and pick only ones you like. Huge variety and complete freedom. And the cost of the biggest packs is high to make sure people will have something to do for the next months and probably even forever - getting 20slot packs for all chars will take a lot of time and even if you manage to do that, they will be still worth getting just to sell them.
Apollo Smile
I agree that they are too expensive but I don't exactly agree to zquests being refered to as grind. If doing different areas/missions and different modes of PVP each day is "grind" then I think you need a break from Guild Wars.
Alleji
Wow, people. Stop QQing and just get the 10-slot bags.
They are cheap, I already have two (would have 3 if I could combined the coins on different characters) and I'm perfectly happy with them. It's a nice boost to storage.
20-slotters are a luxury. If you don't like the "grind" don't do it. You'll have an option of forking over 100k+xx ectos in a few weeks when people will get them and start selling.

It isn't actually that bad. I've got about 1k Copper gold now and really haven't spent more than 2 hours doing it.
The funny thing is I don't even want the coins that much, I was just doing the PvP quests for the loleasy faction, and some of the very easy boss kills, which take no more than 15mins.

I also feel 7500 coppers is to much for a max bag, but then again, that does get people together doing stuff again. But gaining 7500 coppers for a bag on all my 11 characters, and perhaps some on mules, is impossible for me :'(
I'll guess I'll have to buy the 2.5k ones for now.

As like you said yourself, the only things hardcore players get is weapons with pretty looks and that is all a vast amount of gold is going to be able to get you. Everything you actually need costs less than 10k, with the exception of Superior Vigor.

There is still not an advantage in terms of skill/the power of your equipment. 20 extra storage slots does not make you instantly better than someone who does not have them (...) All it does is mean someone can hold a bit more loot than you and all that will do is give you a bit more gold per time spent.
|
Wouldn't you feel the difference if you would go on a mission without the belt pouch?
My point is that being able to carry a bit more gives you an advantage; not of power or skill, but of storage.
