Here’s a heads-up on some of the things we’re working on: * Removing Heroes from GvG and HA. This is something that many players have been asking for for a long time. We still want people to be able to participate in the action even if they can’t field a full team, so we will replace Heroes with a bunch of new Henchmen. We are currently working on the details, so we can’t give you a concrete timeline, but we do know that we want you to be involved. We’re looking for suggestions on the skills you want to see for those Henchmen, so start thinking about those skill bars! * Introducing a Guild Wars Live Test Krewe to help test upcoming updates and skill changes. We’re opening up the testing process to players, and if you are selected you will be able to access our test server and directly interact with our developers! We’ll put up an application form on our website once we finalize all the details. Two things in advance: due to legal reasons, you need to be at least 18 if you want to apply, and you need to speak and write English fluently. That's all for now. I hope you like what we have in store! |
So What Are We Doing at the Moment?

I just posted this on my wiki blog:

1 So A-net is finally closing the curtain upon GW pvp.
Suggestion, it might be possible to tweak heroes AI so that they are going to be less efficient in pvp scenarios?
If not, wouldn't it be better (it is because it is actually done) to prevent heroes from using certain skills therefore hindering their total efficiency?
2 You're two updates too late.
Giving player feedback more credit would be even better.

Don't care about the PvP section. No offense, never have. Doubt I ever will.
Number two seems like a pretty good idea given some of the issues of the past two updates. I have to disagree with Kiera on it being too late. Late, certainly, but not too late unless this was the last update planned.
It'll increase the size of the testing base for free, and solidify relationships with players who might be feeling a bit let down. I like it.
(Yeah, I plan to apply when they go up. How did you guess?)

Both ideas are sound.
Test Krewe sounds too Asuran. I would rather vote for Ebon Bugguard.
Will there be a NDA on skill tests or other things that the testers experience on the test server?

I dunno. Too homophonic with "Ebon Buggered" which some of the carebears might find offensive, but could be wildly appropriate, considering the nature of software development. ^_^

open process for balance changes and testing is good.

Keira, while both decisions may be overdue, they are both also progress.
Good plans that the devs make the community aware of trump poor plans that do not see the light of day until they are added as updates.

Very interesting. I never expected either to happen, especially number 2. I never thought heros should have been allowed in HA or GvG to begin with.
It's good to see that they're making a conscientious effort to listen and now giving players more representation in update feedbacks. Unfortunately I will not be 18 until later this year, but I know that there will be alot of knowledgeable ppl applying so that my concerns are assuaged.

Well, I'll be applying for the second once that's available, that's pretty awesome :P

I don't know if I can bring myself to join something called a Krewe, but I guess I can try for this
DoomFrost
Sounds good, having a Test Krewe would certainly help Guild Wars out. The removal of Heroes from GvG and HA would also be great.

The henchmen idea sounds great!
Sadly i'm 15 so I won't be able to apply for the Live Team

Thanks for the heads up. I'm eager to know where to be signing up for this Test Krewe, and I hope you've got more surprises and things you're not telling us about like the last content update.

I like that a lot, heroes don't help ha/gvg at all except to form groups and its really not hard to get 8 instead of 6/7 for any arguing about that. Burn in hell godly interupts/wepspell prots.
Reserving judgment on what comes from the test "krewe" but could work.
Say what now?

Hopefully you get some knowledgeable people in this testing server access and not a bunch of retards...
But sadly you're over a yeah and a half too late on the first problem, and 3 years too late on the 2nd problem. Seriously why did you close the alpha testing anyway if you are basically going to go and re-open it again...

#1: Thank you... PvP will belong to PLAYER v PLAYER.. and not PLAYER and some AI mixed in v PLAYER... bravo!
#2: I have been wating for an opertunity like this to come along... and I hope that I am one of the lucky chosen peeps to assist the live team. That would be somthing special for anyone.

they nip hexes in the bud slightly this month now they announce fixing Heroway.

I also find this ironic when they stated they are adding more positions for the Live team. So which is it? Lack of man power or have they finally concluded closing alpha was a bad choice hence 3+ years of mediocre balance after Factions release.
Also until there are finer details posted on the website entailing what actually is going to occur within the Test Crew we don't know if it really is for the better.
How many testers there will be and what are they testing/which environment. If it's just testing for skill bugs like the ones causing GW to crash in the last update that's pretty sub par.
Regarding Heroes, why even bother implementing more henchmen to fulfill the role you want gone in the first place? Added work. All that's going to come from it is wasted time. More henchmen with static skill bars that no one will want to use them. Isn't the end result not to have AI in the place of human players? If so just remove the option.
If heroes>henchmen why? If heroes=human than why would the playerbase want or take henchmen? Alas by wasting time and adding more henchmen with sub par skill bars that won't change, you've just effectively removed the desire to take AI(short route just remove heroes and add no new henchmen)
Still Number One
They should give the monk Seaguard Gita's bar. It has a hard res and super condi removal!!!

NEW HENCHIES!!! DAMN i would prefer new heroes
Still Number One
Pretty much what I want to know as well. are you testing what effect the skills will have in certain PvE areas, whether or not they are too powerful or useless in PvP situations, or just making sure they do what you want them to (aka no bugs). If you are going to test skills for PvP, I hope you are very selective on who you pick and actually choose people who have a very high understanding of the game and not just lucky number 15 that we pulled out of a hat.

Alpha did not really do anything productive the first time, so why are you bringing it back? Many players will only give ideas that give their style of play an advantage, even though there is almost no incentive to do so anymore. Obviously, this does not apply to everyone, as some players have been very non-biased when discussing game balance, but the majority will try to increase the strength of their favorite style of play.
