are you serious ?
one paragon is still able to provide constant 80% (or more) damage reduction to the whole party |
And motivation is totally useless now that there is no way to provide healing while waiting for your 20 sec recharge skills to cool down
Paragons did have a viable healing role next to monks and ritualists thanks to Finale of Restoration. But what healing do they have left now?
Song of Restoration [elite]
10 energy, 20 second recharge, heals for 114. I remember the days when this wasn't nerfed to hell and cost 5 energy with a 10 second recharge, like it should be!
Mending Refrain
10 energy for +3 health regeneration, it used to be +4 and it used to have a 20 second duration, now it's just 15. Yes this can really compete with Healing Breeze, hah.
Aria of Restoration
10 energy for 94 health if a spell is cast. Okay I guess. Wait, 20 second recharge, forget it!!!
Ballad of Restoration
10 energy for 79 healing if damage is taken. Got a huge nerf. Again 20 second recharge makes it useless.
Chorus of Restoration
4 adrenaline, 5 sec recharge, heals for 94 when target uses a shout/chant. Pretty awesome but unfortunately not everyone can use a shout/chant. Basically the only unnerfed paragon skill due to it never seeing any use due to the situational nature.
As you can see, without Finale of Restoration, the healing role is dead as all the healing skills are already nerfed to hell with their extreme recharges. Finale of Restoration basically transformed useless skills into healing skills made both those useless skills and healing viable.
Sarevok Thordin
Alot of paragons wanting to be the one and only healers in their teams
Riot Narita
Works fine with GWx2. Load a single copy of GW, let it update. Then copy the updated .exe to your second GW folder. Run GWx2... first copy works, second copy downloads .dat updates and then works. No problem.
Tullzinski
Well done ANET keep up the good work. Tonic Sound removal is awesome. Thank you for giving us more ways to kick ass and enjoy the game!!!

THESE MINIONS GO TO ELEVEN!!!!
That's so hilariously amazing that I'll have to use a mm at least once.

I'm a brave W, where is my update ? :/

Better teams always put aegis on song guy, because song+stab > aegis. Also, leech sig or cry > aegis. Its all the same after the "nerf".

The new version... could be interesting, but I'll certainly miss the old.

I've been playing with the new Enraged Smash lately, too. Is... interesting. Not quite at the level of Earthshaker, Dragon Slash, Warrior's Endurance or Hundred Blades, but certainly playable.

My own responses:
Pets good.
Lack of permasin nerf bad.
Dervish buffs don't seem to be enough due to the reasons Reaper stated, although they are on the whole a step in the right direction.
Hopefully they'll be looking at Mesmers in a month or so.

The good:
* Pet love, just in time for me to start levelling my skittle chicken. Woo hoo.
* Dagger Sin buff FTW. It was always more fun to do the "ninja flip-out" with daggers than to swing a big ol' farming tool around.
* Shielding hands is... interesting. Not sure if they fixed the bug yet.
* No more gorram yeti roars and rabbit squeaks! Linsey, have my children!
The Bad:
* Mel's Shot PvE nerf. Not too bad though. After the last nerfbat, it was pretty meh in PvE anyway (probably why they didn't bother to split it)
* Finale of Restoration PvE Nerf - RIP Motigon.
The Ugly:

If you really wanted, you could have 12x lvl22 minions already before the update (pve) with aura, grenth blessing, a grail, and a sugar like golden egg. Now its easier to get since you can take masochism and skip 2 of these things. In my dreams i have 13x lvl 24 minions, but there is a attribute cap of 20 so you cant get that. It would be fun but obviously too strong lol.

Mel shot? What? With this change, Expertise description should be change in:
Expertise - If you can spend points on this attribute, you are a Ranger so you will deal 0 damage in PvP while using a bow. You may inflict poison with your arrows and you have 25% to interupt a foe, but most likely you will be blocked and nuked by a Mindblast/Distorsion Ele.

All together i like this update. I do agree with a couple of the posts i saw that ask, what about my warrior??? ... Out of all the characters i have used, the least versatile would have to be the warrior. Hammer warrior is almost completely useless (from a PVE stand point, maybe better in PVP but i am not sure). I would love to see an update that balanced out the warrior a bit.
Having said that i think this update is nothing but beneficial. No more noisy drunks... woot woot!!
Also the bug fixes where on point. There where two on that list that i have come across first hand.
Keep in mind my opinion on the warrior is strictly from a PVE perspective, i am not as familiar with PVP as i am with PVE.
Also 33% damage reduction on pet damage intake, and a matching increase on output damage.... is it just me or does that seem a little drastic?

At first blush, perhaps. But keep in mind the relatively low stats of a pet, the fact that they're not party members (comes into play considering popularity of party buffs), and braindead AI. They lasted about as long as flesh golems in HM. It was very sad to watch Fluffy die every 12.7 seconds.
Scythe O F Glory
Sand Shards.... at least it had 1 use before the update (Raptor farm build). Now its utter garbage.

Lol @ Masochism
Lol @ Good Derv Buffs, Nevermind
Lol @ Pets still can't target
Lol @ Mel Shot
Lol @ PvE Monk Buffs, SoL Needed that shorter recharge, and Selfless needed to be upkeepable
Only thing that gave me a smile was FIXING SoS

The PvP update is a complete joke. I don't know what's worse:
the December update with random 'dartboard' buffs which is so ridiculous they continue to work on nerfing it months after and still don't have any clue how to.
OR
this update which looks like a 'noob' with no clue what's going on did.
I rarely use the term 'noob' but it really summarizes what this update is. It looks to me like whoever is doing the update ignore competent players' suggestions, don't observe any matches, and muck around in awful arenas/guilds if play at all. If there is going to be another 'major PvP love' update later this month I hope it's not another fookup like December's. Then again, why not make it like that and have work for another 6 months. Brilliant!
I like the message this update has for GW PvE. It's saying, PvE doesn't freakin' matter so who cares how overly over-buffed things are. Seriously, it's already easy and they're making it much more easier at each go? Makes sense. Next update: [PvE] Clone skill.
It'll be better if they have NPCs not get stuck on things or fix whatever bugs of non-loading mobs that affect gameplay.

why are people mad at melandru's shot being nerfed for pve? it was already a horrible elite to use for pve in the first place. while the nerf for pvp wasn't totally needed compared to other imba skills, imo it was still a good one.
i'm surprised that no one has mentioned how this is really july's delayed monthly skill balance. this skill balance was 2 months worth of work. while a lot of the choices are questionable, i don't think anything has been ridiculously broken compared to previous updates. and while obviously pve-oriented, its fairly decent for what it is. however, i wish they would explain where they are trying to go with the dervish--they still seem to serve no real purpose except to be an annoyance.
and heres my choice for the 5 best skills (not best balanced mind you, best "overpoweredness" excluding pve-only changes):
1. winter's embrace
2. shielding hands
3. sand shards
4. wastrel's demise
5. black mantis thrust
and my top 5 "still useless" skills go to (surprisingly, people will still use em):
1. elemental flame
2. black lotus strike
3. aura slicer
4. sharpen daggers
5. confusing images

PvE got crazy overpowered buffs, making my runnin experience twice as easy... :P

Wow, you brought back my boon prot (i love you) and made it to where SoL never leaves my pve monk bar now.
now if you can fix the other 99% of problems that are still out there...

I might even start the game...
Still Number One
Slippery Ground Warrior is fun.
Seef II
Doesn't help the dervish situation. Aura Slicer yay, but it's still got a lousy recharge.
As for pvp... gah, more assassin annoyances.

Toxic OnyX
they only good thing was no yeti noise (more to sto pppl crying about it than any real use)
re-nerfed para, buffed sins, buffed discordway lol (like it needed it), boon prot is back, didn't nerf SF, didn't nerf MB ele
basically /fail in every section

Bawwww, my poor orders dervish hero is destroyed with a useless 15e armor stance?

No moar Yeti sounds! Rawr!!!
My sympathies to most who spent gold to collect vocal tonics, but some criminally abused them and ruined it for everyone. ANet took waaay too long to fix that which never should have been, but my faith has been restored, to some small degree. I still think a toggle to disable sounds for those who did not want to hear them would have been a good compromise, but such is life.

That's not true at all. They didn't do anything about any of the problems in the lower-end arenas either. No nerf of infinite-energy fire eles, RoJ, or N/A bombers. And the Mine Cleaners in FA still use PvE spirits. If anything, they're just compounding the problems with stupid-ass turbobuffs like Winter's Embrace.

On a sidenote, is there any way to change Hero pet names?

Incredible update ... now, once they make Invoke Lightning more worthwhile in pve (more targets, faster recharge, whatever?), make earth magic a valid offensive magic in pve (25% armour penetration for 'quake' skills?) I might actually reconsider going back to this game to play casual ... well, we shall see.
Atm I only hope that new boosted skills for Assa and Derv don't end up being overpowered in hands of other classes (mainly shadow and earth magic ... and perhaps wind prayers)

I agree, it shouldn't be an elite - or it should affect more than 3 targets max.
I actually used to use [lava arrows] quite a bit, even with it's 1/2 range. Now, it seems essentially as powerful as [invoke lightning], with the added bonus of taking half as long to cast, and potentially doing 2-2.5 times more damage over 10/12 second interval...
15 attribute point comparison using 10 mana:
[invoke lightning] 100 damage+25% pene over 12 seconds, 3 targets max (near), 2 sec cast, possible exhaustion
[lava arrows] 130 damage over 6 seconds, 3 targets max (near), 1 sec cast
It seems [invoke lightning] should either have 1 sec cast time, no exhaustion, 5 sec recharge, or full AOE (near).
Same sort of argument could be made for [chain lightning] (15 extra damage/45 max for the elite [invoke lightning] version seems piddly as well)...
EDIT:
Is this guy a totally clueless brain donor? He posted this (more-or-less) exact tripe twice in this thread (page 7 and 8). Yeah right, give you an option to turn griefing back on - OK!
