This is amazing! The way you draw your comic and caption it makes it look like a professional comic :O I'm so excited to read more

Ravenhawk
Aww thanks you two! *hug*
Uhm would a teaser help?

(Yeah that's the guy that I said I was trying out expressions on lol. TRYING is the key word)

That looks similar to how I feel when I don't save my drawings accidentally XD
Awesome job ! I love that comic you are doing too. How long does it take you do one of those?

Great job!! How many pages will this end up being?

These are really neat, Mina. I'd like to see more panels with a bit more full-body shots than portraits. You like playing around with shadow a lot, and I think some simple yet strong silhouettes could add even more to these.
Ravenhawk
@Frost - Thanks. Hmmm...I haven't completed scripting the entirety of Volume 1 yet..but I can imagine it to go over 100 pages..and that's only up until our RPs around 2006. I also expect at least 3 volumes if we were to follow how the storyline developed now so yeah it would be a LOT of work. It kinda makes me want to cry because I feel like I'm prolly gonna be dead before I finish all of this unless I get a ton of money to pay someone to draw for me lol.
@Charliepai - Thanks. Next page has a 3/4 body drawing and a possible full body view. (still havent decided what to do with the last panel). And I agree about the shadows. I need to make a really conscious effort to not overdo them.
How do you choose the color of shadows? In theory I read that they are usually dark version of cool colors (ie blue/purple) -plus whatever is the local color of the object. I usually set my brush to multiply or overlay for this but maybe there's a better way.

Well, I got a new page:
http://eon.smackjeeves.com/comics/1234247/4/
I got struck by Art Block right in the middle of it so I am not very happy with the page overall.
Next page (hopefully) will be better. It has a full body shot and is set outdoors, which I prefer over indoor setting. I also want to try a slightly different technique. Plus, finally I get to draw a female character!

Been really busy IRL lately and actually done this page awhile ago. Was having an art block so I am not really completely happy with it >_<

loving your comic so far
boo for artblocks though
my comic page 3 has been in progress for a loooooong while D:

Ravenhawk
Thanks Thistle! And you better get your butt going with your comic too =P
Also trying something different - speed painting. Also changed my approach - I tried to block in the silhouette first.
Here's my first try , no reference. I dont remember how long this took me cos I was also doing laundry in between:

2nd try with reference 30 minutes:

old sketch for Murke that I decided to finish for her bday:
http://roguemina.deviantart.com/art/...urke-251616390
and more speed paint practice. This time I didn't vary the brush flow/opacity.

ack triple post.
I am just very happy with the slightly more polished version of the speed paint. Thought I'd share. I have been out of my mojo for months and I haven't been this excited about a drawing in awhile lol
1-1.5 hours in total. Again, sillhouette first then the details and no varying opacity/flow of brushes (all 100 %) unless I am in the blending stage.
I will post a process next time I draw in this method.

Wow, that was only 1.5 hours? That's gorgeous.
I love your Wall-E paint, too. That's adorable.

Thanks Drelias. Unfortunately, it may not stay as just speedpaint anymore
.
Note: This screenshot is from the navigator window of photoshop..so yeah excuse the grainy-ness. Just noticed it now >_<

A few updates.
1. I did a paint over with the blending and resume to 100% opacity/flow painting brush. Still in progress. I also haven't fixed anything on the bent leg area and lower arm/hand yet
2. Changed her eyes to look straight to the viewer and give more shape to her eyebrows. Also did some minor fixes on the face. Hair still needs to be fixed too.
3. The breast shading is roughly fixed.
Been also thinking about the background. I got an idea in mind but we'll see.

I like this soft gray a lot better. And her face looks really different from other times. In a good way though, specially those eyes, very powerful.
Eastern Magik
Oh, lol after reading that post on DA, i thought you would go for mixture of realism and impressionism, but i see you've changed your mind...
anyway, she looks amazing. Her pose reminds me of those old-school pin-ups. Can't wait to see finished version

Thanks Drelias!
Seeing tons of renaissance paintings from Michelangelo to Da Vinci in Italy just inspired me to draw. So here's a few doodles from my trip and I am so glad I brought my sketchbook and one of my action poses book with me:

These are stuff that I plan to render digitally -except the one on the lower right since I am not happy with the pose - to continue these series that inadvertedly started (I basically drew two characters from my comic in a very similar scene unintentionally)

I am seeing lots of anatomy mistakes esp on the legs that I intend to fix.

Trying out sketchcards to practice minimizing my errors (since it's a small card and if you make it too dirty with erasures it's not gonna look good). The scanner makes them look weird/too sharp though.

Somewhat got fascinated with sketch cards last week (dealing with art block). Got some ups and downs , mainly my ignorance about coloring media...I really am clueless about traditional stuff but I am trying haha.
So yeah here's a week's worth of experimentation. I included my failed sketch cards because yeah, just to show you how I have no idea about what I am doing lol
Here's the bigger view of catwoman sketch card. It still sucks but I got a hang of it a little bit. It's so unnerving how you could only have as few of a mistakes as possible.

I also made these because I felt like sketching more before I go back to my GW halloween entry:
Original version of my mesmer:

Gambit of X-Men (trying out male characters)

I plan to go back to these sporadically next month. Right now I am fully booked with GW Halloween and my delayed comic page. So if anyone has advice for me on traditional sketching and coloring stuff (I got watercolor pencils and watercolor markers atm) I'll appreciate it. I am open to other media that you think would be better. (I got used to painting over my mistakes in digital..so yeah traditional is good practice for me to minimize mistakes )
No I am not abandoning digital, I just know when I move I am going to have at least 2 hours of downtime on the train per day, so this is one option that I like to do - make sketch cards lol.

And a bday gift for a guildmate. Also experimented on a slightly different technique (I ditched the grayscale step and didn't vary brush opacity/flow cept for the blending stage). No reference used on the face itself but I looked at how lights/shadows fall on a person's face with a similar lighting:

Commissions I did recently. One you might recognize as Hailfall's Shala :P

What I am currently working on atm. Commissioner wanted a 1940s style.
Thistle Xandra
oh wow
didn't realize you were doing commissions again
I love how you painted Shala! She's so much fun to draw/paint. I think it's all the purple :O

Ravenhawk
Thanks Thistle.
Well, I was doing commissions (for RL money at least). Then my PC at home broke down...so now I am just a really sad panda. -_-"
