With the exception of a few powerful skills, many Ritualist skills just have no place in end game PvE. |
please consider that point.
edit after reading everything:
* due to buffs to ritualists, i see more n/rt heroes abuse
* due to 'killing' (we don't know how they want to solve the issue yet, hence the '') 600/smite, faction-based guilds will run rampage and maxing an allegiance title will probably be a pain until someone finds a puggable 30-40 min vq; still, it WILL be a pain. if you need kurzick title for your gwamm, farm 24/7 ;p
* tactics still won't be desired
* paragons not only have just one viable end-game build to run (imbagon), but now they pretty much have to run and shout on their allies with constant 60 armor without any means to remove it (in the typical imbagon build, that is)
* i know it's not complete, but with changing blood magic (aka touching necros), i'm surprised that MoP change isn't announced

Well I totally woke up at the perfect time. Reading now, will edit this post :3.
Edit: I'm pretty happy with that. I have no idea why you buffed ritualist again instead of looking at Rangers/Mesmers/Eles in HM, but I am pretty happy about it. Blood magic looks interesting, the Hammer buffs and tactics rework still seem kinda meh. Would have thought you'd change more stuff to affect the party. Overall I'm pretty happy, I hope you can do a huge change thing like this for PvP sometime in the future.
Also:
Yeah, 500 players will quit without Obsidian Flesh -_-. It's another invulnerable build, you really think the speed REDUCTION means its balanced? How does that even matter when all you have to do is sit there and take 0 damage while dominating them with your own skills.

EDIT:
1. Invincibility skills
- No for Obby flesh is making me scratch my head. No 600/Smite makes me somewhat angry, because I really like the build. Good bye SF I guess, we all knew you were going to be gone sooner or later, it was fun abusing you.
2. Hammer.
- Ok, I guess. Hammer is pretty good in PvE already, but this will give a few more builds a warrior can work with for HM.
B+
3. Rits.
- I don't see how these skill changes will make rits more viable in high end pve. What we will see is necros abusing some more of the rits skills that do look a little powerful.
C
4. Tactics.
I like this, some of the skills sound fun to work with. Shield Stance will be a new tank skill (bleh). Fear Me! sounds OPed, but at the same time fun. Retreat! is will be like Fall Back!, kind of cool. It's not bad, should spice things up for a bit.
B+
5. Blood Magic.
Will still be underpowered.
D for effort I guess.
6. Other issues.
Heal as One sounds great, looking forward to that. Agressive Refrain and Soldiers Fury no cracked armor is great for H/H.

So basically I have to make a warrior, sin, rit, or necro to have all the fun tweaks. Nothing's really changed, at least for me.
code
Kill SF for all you want but don't touch my 600
The Feeding
Don't touch obby flesh.
Its not even OP anymore because of the speedbuff and after Obbyflesh/600/SF are gone, I garuntee youll lose atleast 500 players.

We'll it's not hard to vq DT on a warrior with h/h in ~35 mins. It's still a pain, though, I just did it out of boredom and wouldn't want to do that for more than an hour.
I definitely want to see how long it takes until the next broken build is created. Fun times!

***Finally, Dwarven Battle Stance is being revised a bit. It will cost 5 energy, provide +40 AL, and +33% attack speed. Dwarven Battle Stance will still cause interruption, though only when you use attack skills. It will no longer end if you use a skill. ***

Tank 'n spank is slow and surely you'll still have ways to farm. Scare tactics don't work. Go look at the Blood Bond buff on top of the other necromancer toys. You'll still have fairly fast groups.

but if someone played only to accumulate wealth through running other people or something, that was his choice, though. yet, on the other hand, with limited running/rushing/farming/etc, the money-titles will now be even bigger pain in the ass than they used to be.

Take away over powered gimmicks that have been around for far to long and you suddenly finding yourself back to 600/smiting cof...o wait thats nerfed too.
Arduin
Wow, Dwarven Battle Stance + Dwarven Stability might be fun.

Sf and Obby flesh nerfs are good things. But 600/smite is a really versatile and dynamic way to play the game. Theres a lot in it and its something you really do need to practice and get good at.
I think its a big mistake to remove a niche like that from the game. Just make changes to the problem areas, (i.e underworld) Not the playstyle itself.

While you guys are reworking Tactics you should move both Riposte(s) to Sword Mastery
Dratyan
After reading these notes, I'm just glad I got pretty stuff and pretty titles on PvE before this update. Now I know for sure I quitted the game on a perfect time.(I never liked SF but killing most gimmick farming builds at once can't be good)
Also, it would be terrible to finally help Dervs now that mine is retired ^^ So just let them like they are -Ty for that btw

Backbreaker / Shatter nonprimary nerfs = lol.
Primal = finally dead...?
Resilient nerf worries me a little. 10e on a mediocre 8s spell you need to defend NPCs is yuck.
9A Backbreaker + no recharge Steelfang Slash = HELL YES.

Why do you say that Rit damage is weak, and then proceed to nerf its only real damage dealing build which heavily involves the use of signet of spirits?? I dont care for the rest of the "buffs"... the only useful "buff" there would be AR and that does not warrant a SoS nerf.
And also where is the 5 year long overdue buffs to mesmers?? Although you guys will probably ignore the feedback anyway like you did on the last update. So meh.
All in all, I must admit I honestly didn't believe you guys at all when you said the update will be out in February. So that was a pleasant surprise I guess. Even so, if that's all you guys have been working on over the last 5 - 6 months, it definitely won't make me get all excited and want to come back anytime soon.

Change to Aggressive Refrain/Soldier's Fury is nice if you run h/h. Not too thrilled about the SoS nerf. The rest is meh...Obflesh nerf is actually surprising, in a bad way. You missed one though, no Spell Breaker? Might as well run the gauntlet at this point Anet and kill them all.

Big meh.
Instead of going back to basics you add even more patchwork, clumsy PvP/PvE splits and completely random buffs.
I don't expect any of my old buddies who quit when the game became stale to come back for more than a single day.
As for me, I'm waiting for the patch that fixes the entire game by killing it, ironically.

DBS already has +33% attack speed = GOOD
Dropping 5E = GOOD
Won't end when you use a skill anymore = GOOD
Adding 40AL helps JUST the warrior = SO WHAT??? (it results in very SLIGHTLY reduced pressure off the party healers for the duration of the stance).
Only ints when attack skill is used = BAD.
Adrenaline attack skills will still queue up so as to only be available 3-5 seconds into the battle & the energy attack skills still have recharge = CONSIDERABLY FEWER INTERRUPTS.
Reducing the CONTINUOUS interrupts provided by the exisitng PvE dwarven combo (Dwarven Battle Stance + Dwarven Stability) means that a single war won't be able to shut down spammers in HM - Ele, Nec, Ranger (thinking of choking gas in slavers), or almost all Melee in order to KEEP damage/pressure OFF of ANY ally the "enganged" foe is attacking. In it's current form, there is more utility to the TEAM play than the proposed change.
It's a waste of ANET's time to change this skill for PvE... mayB for PvP tho....
But, I know ANET is NOT gonna listen to me... whatever... with the pending change to Heal as One, who needs a hammer? The war can just cast GDW on his/her pet along with Never Rampage Alone to get a SIMILAR effect. Similar, but no where near as much FUN as the 1/4 sec KD EVERY TIME you connect with your hammer

Huh, isn't Soldier's Fury getting nerfed again? Removable -20 armor seems better than irremovable -20 armor to me...
SF is gonna get killed QQ.
Looking forward to the hammer buffs
Rits...Meh, no big changes.
Barbed Signet+Apply = big pressures?
Tactics will still be bad
And... Why no PvE Mesmer/Derv buffs? I mean come on...

And when will we see separate Guild Wars box editions? You know, one for PvE and one for PvP?

Considering this PvE update took 5-6 months, it is RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing pathetic. That they are trying make Rits even MORE viable in high-end PvE (SoS anyone?) when Dervs never see high-end PvE play pisses me off frankly. I've been patient in the years since the Derv nerfs hoping they would fix or address some of the fundamental flaws in the class, and especially so in the recent 5-6 silent months of no updates at all. Derv's aren't the only class that don't generally get a place in high-end PvE, but I'd say the derv situation is clearly the worst.
Before I buy GW2, I want to know who's running the updates, how often they will be, what their goals will be, what philosophy skills we be balanced on, etc...
I really don't care. They don't owe me an update. But if they want me to give GW2 a second thought, they won't think to put out these haphazard builds that add unnecessary layers. Hey Live Team, ever think that the reason warriors don't use Tactics for DPS is because...ITS NOT A DPS SKILL LINE? Most warriors want to run DPS, hell all professions want to. They make an active choice not to run tactics because its not expedient. And FYI, Warriors get the most play. Id rather see an effort to balance other classes to make them up to par and give them just as much play.

Sorry to say, but "balanced" is not coming back anytime soon. People will just make a new fast build, and the farmers will migrate to that. Especially since Obby tank is being nerfed, the essential "tank" skill for balanced teams.

Welcome to the new and improved "Hammer and Rit Wars". That's what it's saying with these updates. I can't see enough across the board to show me that the rest of the skill changes were for any other reason than to throw us off of the scent.
They've left many of the smaller farms alone altogether in this, which is a little ironic, because it was already easy enough to just take a rit or 2 to the areas that 600/sf were dominating and roll it that way. U know, places where u can make decent lewt in just the first room or 2?
At any rate, the places that will still be quite farmable will just notice a bit of a class shift, then continue to be farmed just as hard as ever, if not harder.
Nice try, but from this preliminary snip, SG nonetheless..
Must say, I agree with what Shoyon said about dervs. Not enough to throw on a modded farm build, feels like barrel scraping to me..How about a bit more viability? Mesmers, same again.
Looks like they're ignoring the same old ignores, persecuting the same old classes, yep, move along please, nothing new here..

bad enough you are going to mess with 600/smite ;/ but with SoS too?! grr my feather farm will suck. i use sos to heal me when i am mobbed up. but least we got 50 points. got keys and used them to bad i got crap. ;/

Sounds good I 'spose, I don't think any of these changes will affect me directly.
I am a little disappointed that Rits are going to be buffed again since they have actually gotten into the mainstream more, while other professions who havn't gotten any attention for years and are pariahs throughout the entire game (re: DERVISH!!) are being left by the wayside.

That's a good point. This update appears to further increase synergy with physical damage and necromancers.
A couple armor ignoring rit and ele nukes are nice, though.
I'm glad they touched but didn't nerf SoS.
Where and what was the Test Krewe doing with all this? I find it hard to believe (or at I would like to think it's hard to believe) that people who play this game support this? Anet should force the Test Krewe to make the "unliked by Anet" professions to test, but this sentence doesn't make sense.

Although the changes seem alright, why are only half of the professions being looked at? Paragons and mesmers have yet to recieve their major powercreep, and rits are starting to look like eles that won't suck in HM.
