Hi folks,

We've got some pretty exciting news for you today, regarding the future of GuildWarsGuru and GuildWars2Guru: As of a couple of weeks ago ownership of these sites was transferred to Curse - the largest owner of MMO news and fansites around. We now join the ranks of other top notch fansites like AionSource, WarhammerAlliance, TERA Fans, and many more.

I'll cut right to the question on many of your minds right now: "What does this new authoritarian regime of robot overlords mean for me?"

In the short term we're focusing on organization and planning, so you wont see a huge amount change. Sometime in the near future we will shift over to the Curse servers which should result in more consistent performance (yay). Past that we're looking at a load of software upgrades, expanding our staff, and increasing our coverage and content.

We already have a few new faces here on the forum:

DoranM:
The Director of Content at Curse. Amongst many other responsibilities he manages their fansites, and is quarterbacking the transition process.

Kvinna:
Some of you may recognize Kvinna from AionSource. She is a very welcome addition to the administration team, and a huge fan of the Guild Wars franchise.

Alexia:
Alexia is the resident PHP ninja and server administrator. He will be making sure the technical side of the transition goes without a hiccup, and ultimately in charge of maintaining the site's back end.

Future plans aside, the manpower and experience we gain is going to be of huge benefit to us, particularly with the coming rush on Guild Wars 2. Add to that the stability and scalability provided by the technical stuff behind the curtains, and the future is looking pretty peachy for all of us.

I know there will be lots of questions about the future of the site, and how the new involvement with Curse will affect us. Curse wanted the Guru community for a reason, we've developed something special here and have been proud to call it our home for years, and with their backing and support it's only going to get better.

If you have questions or concerns about any of this feel free to drop me, Inde, Kattar or Kvinna a PM.

Yey for better servers!

I like the change, shouldnt change much things, except new staff which is allways good thing,
also this could possibly add some more users for Guildwarsguru sites which is allways a good thing.

Its good as long as i still wont be receiving all those annoying ads, Only good thing at being site contributor :P

Better servers is always a good thing. Unsure about the whole thing though tbh.

So was the sites sold? Do all important decisions go through "curse" now?

If im honest this is the first ive ever heard of the website and ive played MMO's for over a decade.
Correct.

Won't moderators be replaced by Curse-people?

Highly doubt it. Would create ALOT of friction which i dont think they want.

This site runs smooth. Im sure if any major problems arrose they might interviene but as its running fine, im sure they are happy with how its being run atm.

Much more comprehensive support on the technical side, more resources available to us.

Will we be getting transferred to a Curse account/ID?

http://my.curse.com/login.aspx?Retur...ewsletter.aspx

Your Curse ID will work on most Curse Network sites, and confers many benefits.

Better servers, more support and resources available for GW(2) Guru, what's not to like?

This is bad. Sorry but I don't like curse. They've never really been involved in the guild wars scene but maybe some of you should do some searches of other sites they've taken over. They're riding on the fact that you guys don't have a clue who or what they are. You think ads are a concern? You have no idea.

They'll change the forum, change the leaders, change the tone, slap so many god awful useless features on it and guess what, they will start charging you for features you all ready have. They ruined wowace. It's their business model. Ever heard of Curse Premium? I mean I appreciated what this site had going with their elite/core program. Was simple and just unnecessary features that didn't take away from reading it. Bookmark this post and than come back in a year and we'll see what they are charging you for.

While this site hasn't always been my favorite in recent years, it's better than curse. Sorry to people like Inde, Chief and JR. Maybe they didn't tell you that they like to overhaul and drop 1/2 the staff after the initial nothing will change at first spill. They like their money and they like to keep their gaming developers happy. So this site just became the most biased of all I visit.

I won't be back.

I don't know if this is good or bad.

Not entirely sure how i feel about this one. i haven't ever really trusted curse, so thats a loss right there. But i guess the nice admins are happy and they get some new shinies... Well.. i guess as long as we arent over modded to death(like some curse forums become after the take over) ill be ok with it. Well.. im going back into my nice cave and add this take over to the lists of things of "wtf just happeneed" .

oh P.S if you've spent anytime on this forum you'd have noticed the take over. Heck me and end were talking about it ig about how "You should know that curse has taken over, But we dont 'officially" know"
well hope curse has fun.. my activity might have goen just a bit

I don't know who Curse is, but based solely on the feedback of posters, they're all about the money. Idc about Curse taking over, as long as I don't see them trying to charge me for what I already have [normal access to posting here], or go overboard on posting regulations. Also, GW1 is pretty low activity-wise, both in-game and on GW1 forums I regularly visit. It's safe to say that if there's any negative impact on these forums caused by Curse, it'll drive away the few remaining members posting here.

I would like to NOT be associated with the Curse empire. How do I go about having my account deleted and all information removed from this system?

Well, I have never heard of Curse before this but from some posts it does not seem like a positive change.

I hope things stay simple and easy to use like they have been from day 1.

If not maybe Diablo 3 will be out by that time.
