Hurray for cat ears
Winterclaw
Nice addition anet, they look pretty good.
BTW, if it wouldn't be too much of a problem, is it possible to make them dyeable? Making them match my PC's hair would be cool if it can be done.

Mr. Undisclosed
Big fat meh for the goggles, slightly smaller meh for the ears. It really shows that they put all their time and effort into the paid costumes.
Aleta
I like the ears very much and it looks really cute with the party costime
Lourens
I think they look gay on my warrior :S
Milennin
The new headgear looks nice. Not really fitting my character's style, but still much nicer than many of the previously hats.
A11Eur0
Not when mom and dad foot the bill, but 7-10 bucks for some numbers on a server somewhere that gives no other benefit...meh.
Cat ears are weaksauce. Even after a huge thread on here with about 75% of people saying they don't belong, they do exactly what they were advised not to. Ridiculous.

I love the uproar about those ears haha fantastic
Stolen Souls
They both look pretty good. I'm personally glad we didnt get yet another facepaint (or another hideous oversized mask that nobody will wear for more than 3 hours today). Only problem with these is that many characters have hairstyles that don't really go with them (buns, pigtails, etc make them look odd).
Fox Reeveheart
indeed, HURRAY for cat ears ^.^
IlikeGW
I like that they're accessories and not full masks. The masks are very hard to wear again without feeling a bit too ludicrous. I think the costumes for sure got the best piece of new content. I wish they had actually finished up the quest chain to have some meaning, it feels like it should have led to something awesome and didn't.

Save me from the furrys! D:

Don't even begin to compare the Lich/Court costumes and ears/goggles.
You're getting something for NOTHING,shut up and enjoy it.

The cat ears look good on some characters, and they look like crap on others. Ah well, I've got 'em for my collection.
Winterclaw
Grim Aragorn
too bad u cant actually wear the goggles
Lourens
cantha = asia and theres nothing anime about the cat ears and or goggles...

And to put that final nail in....no I won't shut up, and I won't enjoy it.
Festival takes place in Lion's Arch and Kamadan, not Cantha. And do a search for "cat ears" and over half the pictures are anime. I've also never seen flight goggles worn by characters as prominently as in anime. I agree that it's more steampunk, but that's also a prominent Anime genre.
Lourens
anyone mentioned it has nothing to do with haloween??
Xsiriss
The first pumpkin crown is still the best. They get lazier each year, first facepaint now essentially a small thing round your head.
trickfred
Cat ears, like bow ties, are cool.
Prove they're not.
Thank you A.net, for the missing piece of my fem Para's pink+black dyed Fissure armor, the perfect piece that I didn't even know was missing until I saw it this morning at 3:30 AM.

I don't know why so many people are associating the cat ears with weaboos and Japanophiles. The new mask was always a popular costume during Halloween. Girls dress up in black spandex, paint their face, and wear that headband. This is a frequent costume I see at Halloween parties - and regular costume parties for that matter. Have you guys really not seen this before?
As for the goggles, I think they're pretty damn awesome. They look good on caster classes. Just wish there was an option to put them over your eyes.

I actually quite like the goggles, but then steampunk = win. I'm now torn between wearing my specs and wearing my goggles

I was gonna say it but you beat me to it. I dont understand why people are yelling "omg anime!!". Cats/cat costumes/cat ears have been a halloween staple for how many years now? o_O
They still look odd on many characters, though...like mine, for example. :/
Dunno what it is. To me the just look strange on any hairstyle that has buns/tails, etc...

And for the record, these ears look hilariously ridiculous on my main War.

I also don't see full catwoman suits being made in this game. Closest would probably be sin obsidian dyed black. Even then, there's no facepaint. So in the end, it comes down to the media source that most prominently portrays regularly-dressed characters with various animal features. Anime. Let's not forget the goggles which are also prominently displayed on anime characters. If they were displayed as worn on the face, I'd give it a pass because that would shift it strongly towards classic steampunk (although that's also a common Anime theme. Trigun anyone?). But the two of these common anime accessory themes introduced at the same time is overwhelming evidence that they did it simply to appease the manga/anime weeaboos and narutards.
If only I could make a male paragon that doesn't wear a skirt or anything remotely resembling Roman armor.
HawkofStorms
No one ever WEARS goggles. They just have them on their head for no explained reason.

Inorite? Black cats don't have anything to do with Halloween. This was obviously done to appease the anime kiddies! Why couldn't they do another charr mask or something? One of the first things I think of when someone says "Halloween" is definitely a charr!
Maybe it's a generation or regional thing, but I always thought black cats were as universal as jack-o-lanterns and ghosts. I have to wonder if some of you ever venture more than a few feet away from the keyboard. I can't really walk into a store right now and not see at least one Halloween item involving a black cat.
Maybe looking up why they are considered a Halloween thing would help you guys? Then again, you will probably continue to accuse those of us that like the hat of being anime fans, furries, narutards, or weeaboos. For the record, I'm none of the above and I think some of you sound really ignorant.

Anyone older then 10 who cries "Furries!" when he sees Catears but kept silent during the release of 09s Charr Hat ought to be stabbed to death with a spoon.

As for the spectercles being related to anime...
Might be a stretch, as Ray's goggles (dubbed Ectogoggles, Paragoggles, or Spectro-Visors depending on medium) look much different, but the name does begin with specter, so...
A11Eur0
Again...if there was more to this "costume" than just the ears, I'd go with you. But it's just the ears. if they were to add in some cat face paint to the ears I'd be 100% in agreement. But that's not the case. And as I said in my previous post...the ALTERNATIVE goggles only solidify the idea that it's an anime thing more than a simple costume thing. I don't recall ever seeing someone wearing WW1-vintage flight goggles for a costume unless they're portraying Amelia Earhart, and I'm pretty sure one doesn't think of Amelia Earhart or the Tuskegee Airmen when they think of common halloween costumes. One item alone doesn't signify an appeasement to anime fankiddies. But when you have multiple things added at the same time, and no other addition to that "costume", it obviously raises questions.
It wouldn't have been all that hard to apply a facepaint to the ears and remove all doubt to its intentions...not like they've never had a facepaint halloween "mask" before.
Jack-O-Lanterns, lupine mask, mummy mask, zombie facepaint, witch's hats, even the Scarecrow hat all had direct obvious ties to Halloween and have very little obvious ties to other media genres. Cat ears and flight goggles...totally different situation.

Anime didn't invent goggles. Likewise, cat-ear headbands have been around long before the "furry" fandom ever appeared.
And if the items are something that fits in with traditional Halloween items AND happen to cater to other fandoms too, why is this is a problem? I guess I missed the rule in the EULA that said you can't like anime if you want to play this game.
The irony is that if we'd got another pumpkin/standard halloween mask, everyone would be whining that the masks were never different. The fact that the items are accessories this time and can be used feasibly outside of festivals appeals to me! I never even wear my festival hats outside of the festivals themselves usually.

Everything in this post is pure, unadulterated truth. Can't help but wonder if there is an age/region filter going on here; I saw that costume all the freakin' time during the 80s.

Meh, I'm happy with them myself and I know a couple of my chars will look so cute with them. They don't really suit my necro. The goggles... I'm sure I'll be able to use them. Probably on my male Para ;D

No, there's nothing that says you can't like Anime to play GW. But GW is not an anime-based game. Mixing of genres only gets so far before it becomes ridiculous. And when the ears don't fit very much at all in the game, and THEY DON'T, the whole mixing of genres excuse goes out the window. You can claim that it's a halloween staple, but they didn't include the facepaint that is required to pull off a convincing cat costume. You can't dismiss the anime/weeaboo connection completely, just like I can't dismiss the halloween black cat staple completely. But which weighs more? That's the question, and it's at the heart of the complaints about it. If it wasn't an issue, there would be no complaints. The presence of valid complaints makes the argument valid and worthy of serious consideration, instead of just insulting the complainers saying they're "never happy". I was happy with the scarecrow mask when everyone else said it was lame. Same with the Lupine mask. I still have my Lupine mask on my warrior for her werewolf costume. (Primeval warrior armor lupine mask FTMFW. I might even dye the gloves red.)
Whiplashr
You know what irritates me. I bought this game in Sept of the year it was released. I owned the game for both the first Halloween and Wintersday celebrations.
Yet I never got those hats. I was so noob, I had no idea about such things really until the first Dragon Festival. I mean I knew about the events, but I wasn't only playing GW, and I didn't know about the one time shot at such hats/items. I just missed out.
Oh, am I the only one that mis-read this thread title as "Hurray for cat eaters"?
Faowri
So the witch hat doesn't have a place in the game either because it doesn't come with green face paint? As an argument the whole 'it needs facepaint' thing comes across as clutching at straws. And I'm pretty sure a lot of people are glad it doesn't come with facepaint so they can just wear the cat ears on their own.
Cat ears and cat costumes ARE a Halloween staple. GW on the whole is a very westernised game (remember what our elves looked like, haha), so from the context you can easily infer that they are Halloween items. If they also happen to appeal to anime fans, then that just makes them a double-win.
. . . Besides, if they were anime cat ears they'd be three times as big and have excessive fluff coming out of the lugholes XD

I'd like to change my vote from: these goggles are great to these goggles are RED ENGINE GORED awesome.
These really give off a mad-scientist/Ghostbusters vibe to them. I'm so glad ANet added something like these instead of another hat/mask that covers your whole head. I don't much care for the Asuran spectacles, so these are a definite improvement. I even went ahead and bought some new mix n' match armor to go with the goggles.
Thanks again for even more free stuff, Anet.

And how do those masks 'fit in the game' any more than the ears do? They are all halloween accessories.... :/
I think it all just comes down to opinion. I personally think the scarecrow mask looked/looks incredibly lame on any character, and would take the ears or goggles over it any second.
