GeminiJuSa: I went and found these for ya, I hope that they will be helpful =]

The reason why I found so many, was just in-case one of them really didn't help you too much, maybe another one would. I like your ideas so far and the art is lookin' nice, but who's eyes would they be? I'm a bit strung up on that, since I am wondering if the eyes had an identity, if it would give the image more of a story than just eyes with Grenth and Dwayna in them, or one eye with just Dwayna. You know what I am trying to say? I still think it's really cool either way though! =D

Uh, not sure if i should really be asking this here specifically, but how much of you use a tablet, and if so, which? Thanks in advance =o
I really want to learn to properly photoshop, sketching, drawing, colouring, realism...all of it...but i'd need a new computer and most likely a tablet...Which sucks, cause they don't ship in Sudan in 90% of sellers and you wouldn't find it over here *sob silently*

I think I can say that A LOT of us use a tablet. Drawing with a mouse is so much harder and is (imo) never able to create something as beautiful as with a tablet.
Myself, I have a Wacom Bamboo Fun, but going to get an Intuos4 this christmas.
Here on page 8 we had discussion about how to choose a tablet to your preferences.
Also more info here.

@GeminiJuSa: I think your wip is looking very good so far! I like the eyes you've drawn. Like Tommy's commented, blending isn't too hard to do as long as you remember to keep your brush at low opacity/flow. What I like to do is paint in the lighter and darker areas with a harder brush (around 50% opacity/flow) and then start blending them with the lower opacity brush, little by little, by using the eyedropper to choose the colours that start showing up while you blend.
Generally, the airbrush is best for super-smooth blending, but I kind of like the texture that blending with a rougher brush does.
@Nemesis: Great tutorials! Thanks, I think I'll use a couple of those myself next time I'm drawing close-up of eyes.
@Ninja Monk: I use a Wacom Graphire4. Basically, Wacom tablets are the best quality, so I recommend getting one of them (unless you want a tablet that will probably break down during your first year of using it - then go for one of the other brands :P). Wacom Bamboo is a nice, cheap tablet that's good for people buying their first tablet, and Wacom Intuos is what professionals generally use once they've saved up enough money to buy one.
You can learn drawing the old fashioned way too: with a pencil and paper. A lot of drawing is about sketching out things, and having maybe 8 unfinished works out of 10 drawings. Sketching out on paper also helps with the hand-eye coordination and lets you practice many different techniques that aren't quite the same to do in Photoshop (such as smudging pencil by hand for lovely gradient effects).
For example, it's true that pretty much all of my finished works are done on the computer, but I also have a normal sketchbook that I got last Christmas and that has been pretty much filled during the past year with sketches, studies and random doodling. Need to get a new one again for Christmas.

I beg to differ.
http://grb76.deviantart.com/ <- he does his drawings entirely with a mouse. I wish I had THAT level of talent with a tablet.

Ok that is quite epic ^^ But it must be way more time consuming! It can't be D: lol with a mouse, I'm already getting nightmares. Its so hard to make acurate strokes (trying it out )
Minami
I use a Wacom Intuos 4 M, upgraded from a Wacom Bamboo Fun not too long ago.
Awesome tablet <3
EDIT: Closeup of the belt. Only 1 thing's missing from it, will be added later (the long hanging down thingie on the side which you can see on the top of the picture).

Awww! you already has it! You beat me to it. Can't wait to have mine. Is it really a great improvement?

Yepp, I got it when I was drawing the pic for the Halloween Workshop ^_^
It's SOOOO awesome! O_O
I'm so happy with it, I'd never go back to my tiny bamboo fun anymore (also, I gave that to my sister ^_^)
You gonna love it!

@Tommy and Perynne: I do blending in that way but I just can't get the places or the hues right anyway X_X It doesn't look good... But gonna try some more once my new computer has been built
And yes, there are artists that use mouse only and still owns so hard at about the same time as with a tablet. Before I got my first tablet I drew with a mouse, and I managed to do quite well (for the skill I had then) when drawing comical stuff based on a scan :P It's still not like I never use the mouse, but yes, I do feel hindered if I don't have my tablet.

Any suggestions on the layout? Otherwise I think I am done with this one.
And no progress gallery this time because I did not remember to take any pictures while working on these. Well I did for the first attempt of Night Falls cover, but not of the one I ended up using.

*enjoying watching all the nice work being posted*

@Tommy: Congratulations man! Enjoy your new tablet
*grumbles jealously* :P I know i won't be able to get mine at LEAST till summer 2011 , so I will just stare enviously at google pictures and buy a sketchbook as was Perynne's advice
@Koreena: Looks awesome! I'm in love with the plushie and the pillow...boy would i love to sleep next to/on top of those, respectively...
@Eastern: I just wanted to commend you on being so helpful Also checked out the pictures and i think it's absolutely amazing good job!
@Minami: I LOVE THAT BELT! Wow! It's very ritualistic Job well done, to you and your sister/mother (whom will now be dubbed Minami's Little Helpers)
@Gemini: I agree with what Eastern said. I also thought...couldn't you draw a grenth face, with a realistic confused look (considering the metal mask, that'd be...probably impossible)...then you could have the reflection of Dwayna in his eyes, giving the present (Which better be a cookie!)
Edit: I just noticed...if you're planning on colouring dwayna, unless you make a huge image, all the detail might make it confusing and packed up...though we'd have to wait and see how you'd colour it
Oh and i'm currently staring enviously at Eastern's name, cause the fact that he could make such awesome eyes makes me feel hopeless
@Everyone: Thanks for tablet advice

Sorry for double post, but i'm working on pic now, and i just wanted to extra thank tommy for help <3
Oh and...Perynne this is YOUR fault! You're taking the blame for the entire female gender of homo sapiens. STOP HAVING WIERD LEGS FOR CHRISTS SAKE!
is it so hard to ask you to have a knee? *cry*
I have decided that i will not try to confuse myself by making the colouring too complicated. I'll probably go through 4 or 5 times but once i get some good looking shading + maybe some highlights down, i'll stop. I need to go over my basics :P I don't expect to win but i've learnt so much and it's making it all so worth it

Thanks Nemesis, Shewmake, Tommy, Kiya, Eastern, and Ninja Monk ^_^
I asked my mom and my sister to help me, since I've never done a costume before (neither did they, but there's power in numbers lol). They were visiting us, and it was a real fun way of spending quality time together.
We had this really cool thing going, where we would each pick a song to play and listen to on youtube, one after the other.
My sister is a huge GW fan too Had we had more time, she would've put the costume on, we would've painted the tattoos on her too and take pics of her and photoshop us together into one picture.
Oh maybe next time
Progress pic, btw:
The brassiere.
Took a normal bra from Victoria's Secret, and covered it with matching material so it'd fit with the rest of the costume.
Glued stripes on it (which my sister had to correct, cuz my stripes were anything but straight LOL), made the funky little thing hanging on it, and sew those angled materials into the top.
I know that this bra has straps, I couldn't find a comfortable strapless one anywhere that would've fit the purpose. Figured, I'll photoshop them out later ^_^

Wooohoooooo I first post from my new iMac. Intuos 4 isn't working properly yet though Also getting used to a new keyboard D:
And CRAP! Colours on the iMac are different (I think my laptop failed) so my entry looks so bad now D: Much more yellow, needs more blue! I wonder if all my drawings have these strange colours. Omai D:
Edit: I can't believe I let people pay for my commissions D: Colours look so strange, way too yellow. Wraahhh

@Tommy: As far as i've seen, your colours don't contain alot of yellow. maybe it would be better to finish the pic on your old comp/laptop w/e , whatever you were using before imac...then you can get used to imac colours when building from scratch , not changing the whole pic ;o
gz again I HATE getting used to a new keyboard...i had to use my mother's laptop for a week, and now every time i want to press Control , i press the start button SO annoying!
@Minami: Oooh it's so pretty! I can't wait to see the final thing, looking forward to headdress imparticular
Ok well mainly for Tommy's sake, i posted my 70% finished leg lineart. I have to go but i want opinions pleaase! <3

Thanks in advance <3 ]
EDIT: One thing i KNOW is that the legs are two thick to be Dwayna's, if you compare it to GWWIKI pics, but i'm happy with them

That looks a lot better! Definatly. Perhabs make her left knee (right on for the viewer) even more fluent, like the other leg. But definatly better!
And as far as my concerns go towards the colours of my iMac; I'm afraid the colours show up at Anet the same as they do on my mac, and if thats the case, my drawing looks way worse

@Tommy's: Just because it's a Mac, doesn't mean it's perfect. :P You could try re-calibrating the screen settings, so that you'll get them to look as good as possible? Each screen does have it's differences, just because you see it too yellow on your laptop might mean that someone else sees it more greenish on theirs, or more blue. Even if you have your stuff in tip top shape doesn't mean that everyone else has theirs tuned properly.
@Ninja Monk: Whaaaaat? I do have knees... ._. I just don't draw them that detailed, because they end up looking too knobbly too easily.
@Kiya: I think it looks very good! I love seeing so many of your art projects in one picture. It's wonderful.
@Minami: Eeee, it's looking really nice! Yup, the straps will be easy to Photoshop out afterwards. I really like the amount of detail you're getting in the costume, and how well done it is.

@Perynne : I was referring to the annoyance of drawing a woman's legs Don't worry, every female within 10m of me has been taking the full force of my rant
It doesn't help that my sister is 9 *looks away guiltily*
@Tommy: Perynne's got a point...I mean, on my screen, every time i open it i have to press a button for it to Auto-calibrate, otherwise i get these horrible bright yellows and vibrant greens EVERYWHERE >.>
Okay...i'm still working on redoing my Dwayna lineart, but i've basically got up to neck done , excluding designs. A note to those who view this : when i finally upload it (Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible for the probable loss of eyesight, fertility and copious mental trauma. This is a warning. Do NOT zoom in on Dwayna's breasts!)
Oh, and now i'm getting very odd, concerned and surprised looks from my family...they found me searching High Heels in google
Hey...sorry for double post but hopefully soon i'll have my lineart perfected so I want to dabble in some other programs for the painting/colouring...I only know of CorelDRAW and PaintTool SAI so if anyone has any advice, i'd love to here it

Thankyou Koreena!! For changing your avatar
Ok so perhabs the colours are a bit too yellow. Yet I fail to manage to adjust them. I'll go visit the shop tomorrow I guess. I just can't believe my new mac isn't perfect *sobs*
But glad to hear its the mac and not my laptop really, because that means I don't have to change my artwork, just my computerscreen xD Thnx for all the replies, gonna see if I can fix things.

Flying Ninja Monk: I think I am probably one of the only people here who does not use a tablet. I use traditional media. I don't have the money for the tablet and programs and know absolutely nothing about them anyway; I've just always used my pencil on paper.
Also, I think that the adjustments that you made to Dwayna really helped her look better. And no, her thighs are not too big to be hers. GW tends to make very slender females, it's alright to have some more meat on her bones, because most women do not look like the characters in GW I will tell you that right now haha. But then again most women aren't always running around different continents, killing things all the time and then dancing in town...so it makes some sense XD

Last one is a big stylized so it's a bit more pointy than what they would be, but you get the jest of it.
That might help a little?
Perynne: Glad to help ^^
Minami: ♥ ♥ ♥ Oh wow! I love that belt! It looks so cool!! ♥ ♥ ♥
KiyaKoreena: That looks really cool! I love all of your GW creations. And the prizes that you are donating to the Guru are AMAZING! =D
Tommy: I think that the default settings for your iMac either one, aren't set up right, or aren't set yet at all because your picture doesn't look the slightest bit yellow to me. I use a normal Gateway PC with Windows 7 and your picture still looks pristine to me. Like someone suggested, try finishing the pic. on the other computer first perhaps, then switch to your iMac once it is done? And try to see what's up with your default settings too. -Hope that helps =P
Zidane: That looks really cool, I like it!

@Minami ~ The costume is coming along really well, I cant wait to see it all together. But that belt is tiny.
@Magic ~ Its really beautiful
@Kiya ~ I think it looks really good that way. The skill bracelet is still awesome, I want one of those :P (I had the pic in quite a small window at first and I wondered why Gwen chan had huge breasts but all became clear when I full screened it).
@zidane ~ still love it

The skirt + the belt, all done. ^_^
I am extremely happy with how it looks.
@Aeronwen, Maybe it looked tiny because there was no comparison to anything? Check out the piccie here, I put the belt over the skirt.

@Minami: AMAZING! <3 Oh god, really good job when do you estimate you'll finish? Will you hold a staff or something? Will you add spirits , or perhaps some effects on photoshop? (You know, all the eery mystical green glows)
@Tommy: Thanks for the example <3 was useful
@Nemesis: Hehe i feel your pain, though I would never ever pay 100's of dollars for painting software when i don't even have a tablet Thanks for the tutorials, was awesome
@Aeronwen: Gwenchan with breasts? *shriek* I feel like a total pedophile just THINKING of it *shudder*
@Zidane: I agree with Koreena about the mousey tracks thing. Otherwise it's totally awesome! <3
I just thought...when you finally come to judging...are you going to go through each and every one of the (What i expect towards the end to be around 70) posts one by one?
Cause that sounds painful >.>
Will soon upload another WIP Though i feel bad that i've taken so long just for simple lineart, while people like Gemini are on their second :P but i gave my allowance as this is my first time to ever ever ever fully digitally make a picture <3 so i think i'm doing okay...
No advice on which painters to try out?

Unfortunately I don't have anything resembling a ritualist staff (not here in the USA anyways), so nope, no staff.
There will be effects, but no spirits. Photoshoping spirits into a real life picture is extremely difficult without making your picture look idiotic
With that, I'll post the next pic:
The top and head dress, all done, ready to wear ^_^

Whoa Mina, where did that costume come from? Your idea really changed from what you originally told me. Trying to pull a fast one on me, aye?
Looks super awesome though.
Looks super awesome though.

Ok so could use some opinions here:
Old PC version and the new Mac version. What do you think looks better? Or perhabs something in the middle Please don't mind the butt of the monk, it looks like she is wearing dipers, I know

The cooler colors definitely bring more temperature and atmosphere to the piece.

@Tommy, I think the older version has more vibrant colors (which I like better), but I like the newer version's bluish hue because it adds a more cold, wintery overall feel on the snow and the background mountains.
@Charlie, uhhh yeeea... a teeny change I'll tell you in-game someday, why I chose to do this costume.

@Minami: Oh yeah i remember you mentioning that Stop torturing us then XD
It looks really awesome But no socks *cry*
Couldn't you just hold like, a stick, and photoshop it into greatness? XD With some really detailed blending it could look semi realistic, combined with effects. I bet eastern magik could accomplish that Though that's not an option...
@Tommy: I do really love the diapers
Mac version takingabsolutely AAAGES to load >.> Net's failing badly atm ....I've even tried downloading it but it's just refusing >.> 10 mins to download 718? Either ETA sucks or my net's ...being my net *cry* I'll try again tomorrow, sorry! The old PC version looks okay though I honestly can not explain why the hell i'm downloading at 666 B/s >.> not even kb/s, plus it got stuck at 100kb and ended
Bah sorry, no opinions from me this time

@tommy the legs look much better! They deffinatly look less like ohai ima monk LOOWEERRR BOODDDYYYY! and more like ohai ima monk LOOK AT DA SNOWMAN
Incase you didnt notice, the woman on the right; she has one foot. Im sure it just has yet to be drawn in. Her armor looks awesome though, i like the add of the candycanes in the hair.
For the colours; I think you should make a meld of both. I do like the overall bluer feel in the mac version (wintersdaycontesti), but I like the vibrance in the fabrics in the PC version (sneakpeak). I think if you used the blue tones as well as keeping your reds and oranges vibrant you'll get a really nice 'popping' effect. The chances on the elves on the right should stay with the mac version when you do this, i think they look better.
@everyone else. Sorry i havent gotten to comment on others works recently Dx
Tomorrows the last day of school for the year, and we get out on hour early ;D
Ive been looking through magazines and have a (somewhat) decent amount of colours to start working again. I have to build a rollercoaster for our physics class so that'll take up my sunday and monday (group project) but I'll try and get work and updates done in the down times.
Totallyl unrelated edit:
the new "wintersday" costumes dont look that bad. I think i might get them this time. I got the costumes from last wintersday, and thats it. The melandru one, while not that planty, is still pretty nice.

OKAY.... URGENT STATEMENT!:
So my idea, that the other gods never get involved with Wintersday, so Grenth and Dwayna decorate Melandru's statue to bring Wintersday spirit to the other gods, JUST GOT STOLEN FROM ARENANET!!!!!! WTF!! Not cool man! That was totally original, and now, they put it in the game for Wintersday this year.... I feel so odd. I made my picture before anyone knew about it though, does that still count guys?
Haha, this blew me away. Sorry.
