ok, so even if its a lot of work, I'm going to do birthstone series. It's going to feature girl (ofc) portraits wearing some piece of jewel with appropriate gemstones. Its a long term plan, so yeah, I'm still going to do other artwork unrelated to this series.
And heres first wip, and having some doubts about her hair too >_< Probably the left one since its more innocent looking and isn't interfering much with her face like the right one. And need to figure out what to place in the empty space....

As for the background, I think you can just make some lighting that has the same color as the gem.

i like the one on the right more to be honest. curls are always a good "innocent look" are you planning on doing like full body drawings or all busts? if youre just doing busts-i would think some sort of slightly textured solid color background would look best.

really like this so far- and the dress looks good!
only thing that looks a lil off right now is her right arm. seems like there should be more of the background showing thru. maybe its just the current shading, but its just something that caught my eye. cant wait to see this finished-her hair color is awesome

Very, very nice. Its altogether wonderful but I notice that the hands in particular look very real. I don't really understand what the dots on her shoulder are - am I being dense?

Best face of you I've seen so far, really like the colors you used. Really looking natural, be careful with blushing it up. I really like the harder brush strokes, I wouldn't touch it anymore Except for her forehead perhaps
