Got 3 merc heroes and its fun to use your own chars. i only wish they had a basic weapon. Im glad that i have all the /bonus weapons but with that emote my whole bag is full. And that on all chars.

The issue is that getting their drops is it gives a very large unfair advantage to people who buy all 8 over those who only buy 3, 1, or none. You'll be getting all the drops from an 8 man team.

ANET does not sell anything in the store that gives you an advantage over other players.

Rinky dinky eye-candy costumes for sale is one thing, but charging people for something game changing like this? Pathetic. Is anet this greedy for money, they resort to something like this?

We should have had the X/X hero option years ago, well before the idea of 7 heroes. Now 7 heroes come out and you cant make all the possibilities you want without forking over 45 bucks??? What?

I just lost so much respect(?) for this company.

Nobody really needs seven necromancers, sir. I really think players who have all the normal heroes will do just fine.

I personally don't like playing with heroes at all, but I'll get some these to make hero-ing less dull. Assuming PUGs still exist, if not then I won't.

Whether you choose to use it or not, being able to have more than three heroes of a particular class in your party is an advantage.

Ok so I'm a bit confused probably cause of the last few beers, Apart from having 7 necros or anything of the same profession, the only real difference from heroes is that mercs can have same look and armors as the real characters?

$10 for an added toon gives you something that these mercenaries don't: a new toon. Full inventory, full heroes for added inventory, and annual gifts. The third bit might not matter much now since any new character made now will be unlikely to give you any kind of profit from annual gifts, but the other benefits are still there.

I don't think the ability to use my other characters as heroes is worth half as much, up to the same amount, as a whole new character, especially when the heroes we have now are more than sufficient.

Also...does anyone here think they'll actually add another hero to the Canthan GW:B chapter? not likely.

Few questions for people that bought:

1) How does deleting work? Is there a warning about wiping items/runes from the hero instances on your chars?

2) Does updating the same char (e.g. to change armor) require deletion?

3) Can you register the same char into multiple slots?

4) Can you register a char, then delete the char & keep the hero?

5) If #4 works, can you roll a new char with the same name? Can they then add the earlier hero or does it "count" as yourself?

It warns you that removing yourself as a mercenary will wipe all the items you have on your mercenary.

Theres a bug with my elly, my vabbian headlamp didnt show up on my mercenary, but my other toons headgears did

I'll spend my money in a more sane way

PvE was already a joke with 3 heroes, let alone with 7 or now even better same profs of mercs.

Some may say you're supporting the game yes and while I actually agree with that I also can't help but realize that 9 euros is too much for what you're getting in return.

In the end, to each his own.


PS: Probably I'm beating a dead horse by saying this but with the 8 mercs pack at 35 euros you could buy the trilogy + eotn.

You get more storage than any storage pane that way, ability to put another 3 heroes of the same professions anyways (yeah you would lose 1 hero all the time that way but in same boat anyways), You could also use the advantage of selling by placing an account in 2 trading hubs (LA and Kama at the same time for example).

The mercs or another full account?

The novelty of naked Rits, let alone Mercenary Heros, is starting to wear off. I already deleted those heros and recreated them with clothes. :-) An online player wanted to know if it was possible to do that (hero them with no clothes on, so I obliged. :-)

However, I do agree we will likely see more players running around with naked heros. I can see anet putting a stop to that soon enough -- most likely within the next 1-2 updates.

In usual NCSoft fashion of non micro micro payments it's 10 bucks for 1, 20$ for 3 and 45$ for 8.

On Merc Looks/Interface

What the mercenary hero window needs is an "update outfit" button. The idea of having to log in every character you own to strip a merc down so you can change their look if you're not happy with it is just horrific.

Example:

My bud has like 16 characters or so and if he were to create a merc hero and outfit them on all 16 characters he'd have to log in and strip out all 16 sets of 5 runes and 1-2 weapons just to delete the mercenary and then re-add it to change the mercenary's look.

That's extremely tedious and i can't believe they didn't think of this ahead of time.

Deleting a merc will delete all equipment and runes associated with said merc.

You can even use 'deleted' characters as mercs. I just tested adding a warrior as merc I intended to delete. Then removed it and it was still available on all my characters.

So in theory you could create a N, add it, delete, recreate, add it, ...
Only limitations seem to be Level 20 + a unique name.

I love the merc. I got some but the only think i have to remember that if i got 1 merc on +30 chars and delete one... all weapons and runes have to be removed. but thats the same if you remove a normal char with heroes.

That looks like it stems from them using the original base template; before grey dye is applied.

It works but the animations are not working so no burning pumpkins and no headless heroes. That is what i have tested yet.

Yes. I rolled a pvp toon, turned it into a merc and then deleted it. Can still use it on all my chars though

I think mercenary heroes should have identical setup to the real characters, i.e. dye, runes, armor type, any hats/costumes active etc. Having to do all these for a new mercenary character from scratch (just like we do for heroes) is a real chore, and something I wouldn't want to spend money on, as someone else said. Afterall, I did spend on those upgrades on my real character, then why can't I just have the benefits directly transferred to my merc???

Then they would have to code it so that anything on a merc hero is completely unremovable to prevent duping exploits. And if that's the case, you'll have to constantly delete and re-rerune your character and recreate your hero because of the runes. I doubt that would be any more fun. The current lack of runes is understandable since that's how heroes are too and you can spec them specifically.

But the costume bit is highly recommended, but will also be a pain to code. It's already a hassle to change armors for heroes, imagine if you had a merc hero that you have 16 armors on. Way too much effort for the small Live team to spend that sort of time on. Much easier for you to pick your favorite armor and roll with it. Plus I'd expect you'd get bored of changing armor looks for your merc hero within a week of playing.
