I know before every event theres a post/reply somewhere of mine asking when an event is , especially if anets forgetting to announce them ( easter etc ).
Chances are the following
1. The chap who deals with website is on his/her annual vacation as usual.
2. Anet cant pay someone to add details
3. Anets lost their event calender
4. feel free to add your own.

seriously tho - its either this weekend or next weekend .
Can anyone recall the last time in last few yrs anets actually announced all events beforehand as easter last yr wasnt announced till the event had been on for a few hrs.

Anet usually attempts to do Canthan New Year as close to the Chinese New Year date which is this Monday at least it has been the case the last couple of years.

It varies. Last year started on the Thursday that the Chinese New Year began. Events in years prior seemed to be on the weekend as close to the actual date as possible.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how they plan it out. I would like to see the CaNY cover at least a week since the ChNY goes on for two weeks. It would allow more time to do the quests, play the other festival games, AND do some afking for the titles.

Agreed it could turn out that way however its like celebrating new years day one week later, a bit odd if thats the case however im hoping it wont be.

Would be great to get some sort of confirmation from Anet

Experience tells me that it will either be announced on Thursday, like always, or two days before the start of the event (if it starts earlier than Friday noon).

Barring system or personnel issues, standard weekend events are *always* announced on Tuesdays, and major events are *always* announced on Thursdays.

This patterns was established in the first year that they started offering weekend events, and has been very consistent since.

Sweet! I can't wait to get my dog in 2018. I also think GW2 will release that year so it will be doubly cool!

The event usually is in February either first or second week, although it has been known for 2 events to overlap such as AB weekend and Canthan New year. all events try to coincide with the previous years weekends. just keep an eye out for it

Just to repeat the only reason the last couple of years canthan new year was on February was because the chinese new year was also on february.

Year of the Dragon you mean...and yeah if you follow the rotation of weekend events based on the past few years...actually it does fit in 2 or 3 weekends time

Maybe they thought this month's flux would mess up DA and racing, so they're pushing it to next month.

They already said that the flux won't work in DA or Rollerbeetle.

Dog is cool, but Celestial Monkey? That's infinite giggles

The way she phrased that could just as easily mean that the event won't take place until the January flux ends.

I'm betting they hold the event on the first weekend in February and delay the flux if necessary. We've already seen this month that they can delay a flux, and I figure that keeping the flux from affecting DA and RBR would require additional coding they'd prefer to avoid.
