Live Team shifted over to work on GW2
DiogoSilva
As a reminder, GW1 is still being supported in the sense that they are still polishing it up what's already there (bug fixes, skill updates). It's just that the days of new content like WiK and WoC have ended.
artemis-fowl
But there should be WiK/WoC like nf content!
I think it may be relased on annivessary

Let's just hope they can eventually dedicate resources to GW1 again.
AngelWJedi
its probably just me but it didnt seem like they did a lot of big stuff like woc/wik except rarely. so how is it any different then it was before?
FallenAngel_
Although I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2, I wish that they wouldn't abandon support for this game. With the very spaced out skill balances and things that need fixing, once they attend to those issues leaving this game will be alright.

Goodbye Paragon skill update.
Goodbye Smiting skill update.
Goodbye second ele update?
Goodbye NF beyond content.
Goodbye to any hope for an AB update.
I assume starting Easter early was meant to soften the blow?... It didn't.

hmmm...guess they have already shifted since the log in announcement is STILL last weekends---

Realistically I think they want GW to become update free shortly after GW2 is out. Aside from bug fixes I would be surprised if we see much in the way of updates for GW in the future.
It's a fact that they could just shut down the servers for GW the moment GW2 goes live but they won't do that. They are going above and beyond just by keeping GW alive after the release of GW2.
It's not like the game is unplayable as it is. How much more can we expect from them?

No more Beyond content ? Balls...
ogre_jd
Eh. The only thing they could do for AB is put the border back in the middle and decouple it from the AB results. With the border almost permanently giving almost every outpost that *can* change hands to the Luxons, why would anyone want to play Kurzick?

I really want to be cynical on this one, but honestly the reason they aren't hiring more people is because they only need this stuff on a temp basis and would just have to lay any new hires off after GW2 is out the door. So in that instance, it makes more sense to save the trouble of hiring and just borrow the GW1 live team.
"Temp" could be all the way up till the end of the year though.

this means that the Live Team will be shifting much of its focus to support the GW2 team. We’re going to be pretty busy, but we will still support the live game with balance updates and bug fixes

Come on, most balance updates we had past 2 years concerned GvG and bug fixes were about things that noone ever noticed... As far as i know, the turtle is still bugged in FA..

There are 4?! people in the Live Team... When you borrow 100% of a team with 4 members you really don't care about the projects they are working on. On top of that GW2 is different game and has almost nothing in common with GW.
My personal opinion is : GW started bleeding with "bimonthly updates", suffered deep wound from Mercenary heroes and now it is in downed state.

Well at least they were honest about it. I'm sure most of us were expecting that was happening. For sure we aren't getting the Elona chapter of Beyond now.
Odinius
Does this mean our last 3 heroes and the WoC weapons won't ever go in our HoM too?
That's too bad
Well I'll just sit on my last heap of wealth till I see what the &th Bday brings and if it's nothing special I'll just return to help other getting to 30/50 till gw2 is out.

"there’s also something special planned for our 7th Anniversary."
For all we know, this could be the entire GWB:Elona story, a HoM update, AB fix, and skill update. Let's wait and see what they have in store for us before proclaiming that the sky is falling, eh?

I am guessing the 7th anniversary is the second ele update and new presents. Maybe something else but I would be surprised if it was NF beyond stuff.
BenjZee
I've just realised after all these years I've expected a dragon to wake up on the birthday event just before guild wars 2 release.... it is probably this year! maddddd
Not New
Yeah the surprise for 7th anniversary...
GW2 release date announced
Discontinuing any support for GW1
----------
Oo.. an epic dragon boss fight..that would be awesome....where everyone can play together at once!!! And take 2 weeks to kill a single foe....that would be nice..

Something really original and unexpected would be cool. That dragon boss battle might be too much, and i doubt it will be such a thing..It will probably be either WoC bounties, either some items.
I just hope it won't be costumes, i would be totally disappointed by then...

Come on guys...
7 years is a shit-ton for any multiplayer videogame.
Time to move on.
Sequel looks decent and it's still F2P.

Yeah, but it's not like they've left GW to die, there just won't be some updates for a while.... seriously, get some realistic perspective.

Of course there wont be updates for awhile. Thats what a lot of people in this thread are disappointed about.
DRGN
Eh, as long as they give some support, I can understand this. It was getting way too close to GW2 to hope for anything big anyway. If this helps them get it out sooner then go for it.

Tell me, is there a single comparable game (so no subs, no restrictions on f2p, no cash shop that's effectively mandatory) that age (as in, the last time you had to pay money to buy an expansion was 4 years ago) that's had any recent updates at all, let alone a dedicated Live Team? I can't think of one.

People keep talking about deserving...it's not like it's a gift for having been good kids...
It's just a matter of promises vs facts. It's a matter of ssaying you'll do something and then do otherway. I know big companies have difficulties with planning etc etc, but I'd prefer them being clear from the start even if brutalish then promising something they can't assure.

Another confirmation of my belief that the worst enemy of GW has been its own sequel.
Just how long will this go on, I wonder? Will the Live Team be tied up until after full release of GW2, or are they only pulling them for long enough to get some of the beta periods to be running more smoothly? Will the entire team be returning focus to GW, or will some of them remain working on GW2? Will we get any new people shifting focus to GW once GW2 has shipped?
It is a mystery.
By the way, what's with the rush? If the release is scheduled to be "when it's ready", then there's really no need to pull people from the Live Team to push the game out any faster, is there? Is big daddy NCsoft becoming impatient?

probably more costumes and that there isnt going to be anymore birthday gifts....and something else added to the cash store.
I tend to agree with shayne on this one, gw2 is gw's biggest problem....we have been hearing for 5 years that why something has not been done on gw is because they are working on gw2....just exactly what will happen when gw2 is released? will the EXCUSE continue to be 'we are working on gw2' since the live team is all over there now? Or the other 'we dont have the man power to do that (because all our people were moved over to gw2)?

You two are right saying the sequel ruined the first, I hope for them they calculated this right, cause in case gw2 would happen to be a flop they'd find themselves with a disastered top game they decided to abandon and a new game which only costed them a lot of money and losing profit from the good one. And that would be a bad hit.
