There is nothing wrong with what they did with the gifts only the lack of or misinformation that is given by ANet.

Granted we had 7 years of enjoyment for the minimal amount of purchasing the games and chapters and whatever, we should not be complaining about getting any further updates.

I wouldn't mind if there were no gifts at all but the fact they do not bother to say anything irks me. Setting up new gifts=time and resources for ANet, a brief explaination of the gifts=no resource cost, but a show of appreciation and respect for your loyal customers.

I think John stumme was right to post, because crowdsourcing and wikis are very bad when it comes to information that only a few people can verify. Have a look at the "revert war" on the wiki's Birthday Present page.

Wiki (or crowdsourcing with forums community and so on...) is very good to help you discover the nearest rez point or the walkthrough of a quest, because anyone can check if it's true. But when it comes to Drop Rates and such things it just doesn't work properly, because you cannot trust anyone who post on a wiki, and prinscreens are not always a solution.

if stumme didnt post that, and said what mini's were new, then people would be: aww, dont give us spoilers!!! man, he just destroyed the fun of opening gifts to find a surprise..... why?????

what do you want? wanna know everything from the start? (even with the maybe upcoming elona content, as WiK and WoC were surprises too, and people liked to find out stuff themselves, just like some do with bday gifts)

or do you rather hear what kind of stuff you get, and dont know much in details to keep it as a surprise? (like they did say that they got an elona content on paper, in case they release it)

being surprised or being spoiled, you choose.....

ps. the WiK, WoC and elona contents were examples

Well I think this year was clearly the first departure from the pattern of all previous years where there was some sort of NEW mini/tonic rewarded with the present. I think it would be completely reasonable for them at this point to after-the-fact acknowledge that they made a decision this year to not release new content for the gifts. I'm totally fine with them doing that given their dwindling resources but a simple post could have alleviated a lot of the frustration.

I love this year, so what you didn't get a new mini or tonic, I got to max out money titles for nothing, I gave up on GWAMM because of the money titles, now all have to do is VQ 25 areas and 4 HM dungeons and my hall 50/50 and GWAMM....

Its because of whats been talking- people realise that if the "new minis" are "old minis" = Their onis, nagas, IGs, pandas and such, they will drop in price.

Untill we get a screen with showing the present+showing the msg saying what mini you got+Jhon or any other Dev sais its legit, i could not care less.

I have not seen any unded Pandas, Zheds, Island Guardians, Kanaxais, Vizus, or Yetis for sale.

Yes I've seen Oni, Naga, and Shiroken. But not enough to justify that anything is unusual.

I don't get why would anyone panic. There is nothing to spend your in game currency on other than asian minis. I doubt anyone would sell them now in panic just to buy what..? envoy sword. come on...

I bet people of ANet have a way to figure out how many people open their 7th years and they have a office pool with the number. All this for their own amusement. What fun!

I say with what has been going on its safe to say people are not going to pay you much for your unopened 7th years so... Just open it already and lets move on...

Which is precisely why it's hard to trust reports that these minis appear in presents. Anyone long on currency has a strong incentive to (falsely) convince others that the older minis can be found in 7th year presents in order to cause a panic and drive the price down.

Which is why devs need to be careful about what they say.

Conversely, those that do have those miniatures, either previous or new from presents, have a strong incentive to keep that from being know, so their prices stay high and increasing for as long as possible.
If greed wasn't stronger than integrity, the world wouldn't be as it is now.

That won't work indefinitely, though. So we'll know eventually for sure what are the remaining miniatures.

They should've had it gold/green only so as to help people with HoM. The HoM calculator gives one added point for gold/greens after all.

There's a screen of Vizu in inventory on wiki, but that is not convincing enough.

Yeah the Vizu keeps getting added/taken down. It really means nothing as none of the rare pets have been confirmed. I opened one but I think I will hold off on my others. Not sure when we will find out but it seems like the quietness so far means they will be quiet for a while.

i think ive done the community a favour so far ive been buying presents for sometime now u can check argos Mordeth Shadowspawn

*ur welcome* so far out of the 150-200 gifts ive opened got nothing significant i have nothing better to do so ill continue

So. Even if they DID give us a 7th birthday present every month... it would be 10 years before I had that many presents to open. And the chances are, I'd still get nothing significant.

The reason the rumor persists is that ANet has similarly devalued so many other scarce and valuable things in the past. Add in a misguided dev post and a pinch of the credulity of human beings, and you have a toxic mix.

I wouldn't have thrown thousands of ecto at the problem either, but I can't really blame him for wanting to know.

And of course there's that other problem of credibility, since if he'd opened a few hundred presents and gotten an Asian mini he certainly wouldn't tell us.

strumme is playing you. you should be petitioning and emailing strumme for some numbers instead of speculating. tell that RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing dickhead to give you some numbers.

those that have the rare minis probably have access to a fair amount of 7th yr gifts. how would it benefit them to admit they found one? how would anyone be able to verify it either way? why are so many on the market right now? are arms and ectos really better to hold than their rare minis?

they want you all to open all gifts and then flood the market with minis. just like all the title items that are being sold thanks to a 2 week bday event and bonus items. this will help people get their homs and make it more likely that they will play gw2 instead of d3 etc.

he doesn't want to admit that it's a .0000000001% chance of getting something nice cuz then people will just trade gifts instead of opening them.

STOP being sheep. ncsoft/arenanet is just another money grubbing corporation who doesn't care about their customers, just the bottom line.

well i have nothing else to do all the gifts which i opened goes directly to my guild fill hom. i have nothing to achieve in this game and when i mean nothing i mean NOTHING. i have i think mabye 500/50 going through my accounts have my collection of nice weps/all the minis/a couple el henchmans/ and braces to play with.

So when an opportunity comes like this for me to burn cash i normally do. if i get lucky i get lucky if i dont i dont. as for me not telling anyone yeh i prolly wont tell and i prolly the perfect person if i did get any no one would be able to figure since i have multiples of every asian mini in the game

but my fact was true believe it or not for all the amounts i opened i got none i would prolly still buy if someone sold me like 50 at once other than than i cbf so good luck to any who do try
