Both my wife and daughter play GW. 3 PCs, 3 copies of the game.

Smacking Charr together sure beats wasting time looking at the latest dopey TV sitcom or stupid "reality" show.

I have noticed more and more real female players in games. Even my GF is going to give it a try. A female friend of mine who has been playing muds for ages is also likely to give it a shot.

Now, with that said, I *DO* think that there are some statistical differences between the games that women like to play and the games men like to play just as there are statistical differences in the movies men like to watch and the movies women like to watch, the home furnishings that men prefer over those that women prefer, etc. But this shouldn't be confused with a statement such as "all women like X" or "Most women like X". People often think these differences are much larger than they really are.

What these statistical differences are as far as gaming is concerned, I would hate to guess. But take any two groups that differ phsyically, regionally, or culturally in some way and you will usually find statistically differences between them.

I have noticed that more and more women enjoy watching and playing sports as well. Though I don't think that this is a good thing for men or women, since there is somethign psychotic about caring so much for a team of people you don't even know that ones week is ruined if they lose a game, or that badmouthing the wrong team can cause a fistfight, or that riots break out over victories. But lot of women are into sports now and that shows that there aren't so many sharp divisions between what men enjoy doing and what women enjoy doing.

Poppin
I had a great sociology prof just recently who made some very (I thought) astute observations about women and their re-emergence in society as people capable of play. I sort of summarized it in an earlier post. Also, fewer women are choosing games that guarantee peer acceptance, branching out into less-traditionally societal-oriented games like solo tournament play. Outside of FPS or team sports online, poker, pool, and golf come to mind as experiencing a resurgence of female players. This is another major breakthrough for the gender in recent generations.

I've seen some all-women guilds for roleplay purposes and they've looked fun, but having never belonged to one, I can't speak with any authority as to whether they accomplished their guild objectives.

When I bought my copy of GW I asked my Wife if she wanted to try it out because I knew she was a true RPG gamer then I was. She used to play a lot of the Final Fantasy <5 games so I knew she would want to try GW too. Well, bad idea!! LOL She started playing and never gave the Game back. I had to buy a new copy of the game and now we play missions and quests together.

A Romantic date for us now is to beat the crap out of Monsters!! LOL

Female gamer here! I've been into computer games since my dad bought Castle Wolfenstein for our Apple 2plus. Then that expanded into RPG games in college.

I know plenty of female gamers (mostly RPG not computer).

I hope I'm female or my screen name is all wrong...

I've never been a seriously hard core gamer, but I don't shun them either. My first games were the arcades at the movie theaters and those written by my dad and brother for our Trash 80 . Since then, I've tried a few as they interested me. I really like puzzle and strategy games and I've only recently gotten into RPG's. That was my husband's doing.

And yes, a night alone together is usually pre-empted by "What quests/missions do you need to do?"

ooooh I'm glad you bumped this thread Inez. Ooops Fyre, sorry

Alzbeta!

I mentioned the ghost thing to someone the other night and then had to tell them about the bisexual love triangle. My pal managed to create a San Francisco couple, if ya know what I mean, and apparently one of the guys managed to set the kitchen on fire because his cooking skill was so low (I think). So this fire starts in the kitchen and he's panicking and screaming and waving his arms, funny stuff. Well, the other Sim was helping put the fire out, when his car pool arrived and honked the horn... so he stops helping with the fire and runs out to his car pool. The first Sim died in the fire and the house burned down.

I had no idea it could be so entertaining.

started playing about 7 years ago on cd-rom rpg's, been playing online games for about 2 years. i have many female friends who are gamers too, but 43% is a bit vague, as everyone else has mentioned. are these only purchases or do they purchase and play? is there a playing frequency required to be considered a gamer? pretty bogus stats. more info!

Another woman here, I played Diablo LOD, and only go back as far as pacman and Donkey kong, and who can forget mortal combat.."get over here!" then moved to Sega, then PC...and never left. Played DoD for many many years, had a nice little squad there, now very competitive. I have fell in love with GW,and now am in a nice guild with lots of friends. I could ask for more women in my guild it is just me and one other crazy aussie chick (love ya Kaiya :P ) It is about time more women came to PC gaming, for years I felt like I was about the only one in DoD...talk about the come on's on that game...*sigh* Either I was a hot chick or a pre-pubescent boy. I figured I'd just add to this, so people won't mistake me for being a he, because I really hate that, lol. I never really played games much until my bf unleashed the gamer in me lol. He bought me my first game system (a gamecube), convinced me to get my own GBA (and I in turn, convinced my non-gaming sister to buy a GBA).. then I saw FFXI and the TaruTarus, and I got hooked on online gaming - but quit because I couldn't afford it.

Played some other stuff online (Star Wars Battlefront, Warcraft3), then GW came out and we decided to play in the betas -- loved it so much, both me and my bf picked up a copy, got his brother to play, got my sister to play, and managed to convince 15 other people in our guild to play (real life friends & people we converted from FFXI). ;DDDDD

I thought that this is a profound statement & a startling amount - no woman I know would ever consider playing computer games. Nice to see that there are some out there though!

So I was just wondering how many players of GW are woman?

You know all the wrong women.

I play many PC games. I play lots of PS2 games, including sports games. I have a Gameboy.

Three women in our house and we all play games.

I ALSO do fantasy football teams, lol.

However, I do NOT understand what a "hemi" is and I can't bate my own hook because it hurts the poor worm.

I'm a female gamer as well I mostly like RPGs, offline ones at that.. GW is about the only online game I like, and that's because i can group with the hechies. I'm fairly shy and don't really like grouping with real people ^_^;; Though I really probably should start Oddly enough I actually run a forum based RPG, which requires a large amount of interaction with real people..
I haven't known many female gamers besides myself. But I have known a few. They're mostly into RPGs as well.
As I said, I mostly like RPGs. I also like games like Zelda, Harvest Moon, Sims, Anno 1503.. They kind of have thier own categories I think.. Zelda is kind of action/RPG. Harvest Moon is a farming/dating sim. Sims is well, Sims.. Anno 1503, is one of those build a small vilalge and watch it grow as your people gain knowledge and you bring in resources.. I forget the term :-\ I also have fighting games, no FPS though I dun like them.. I also have DOA: Xtreme Beach Volleyball.
Ah, I could ramble on.. But i'll stop Though i'll say my favorite games Suikoden 3, Skies of Arcadia: Legends, Final Fantasy 9 ^_^

Sometimes you can easily tell if it's a male playing a female character.

Names like "Huge Melons" is a dead give away but you can also tell from the way they talk and act.

Plus females seem to be more inclined to use emoticons like and my most hated being ^.^ and =3 sorry but I can't stand those two 'faces'.

But regardless yes I must agree with someone who posted above (the one with the Homer avatar) I do enjoy playing with female gamers a lot more than male ones. They work better together and are generally nicer. Plus I'd rather hear the Siren song of a female voice (on TS/vent) than the brass of a male one (though I know some females who have said brass voice and males with the 'siren song' voice (aka <13 year olds)).

And I know females play games a lot. I can name about 10 of them off my head that I know IRL and a few more that I've met online and about 3 that I've played with in TS (voices don't lie that well).

Wooo! Another female here! Wow, I had no idea there were so many females at Guru!

I love compter games, I've completed all the Tomb Raider all the Half Life. I love first person shooters and *head swells up* I'm pretty damn good. For fun I like to duo it with my sister, she controls the dude, I blow sh*t up. Why? Er... heh.. cos I get scared on my own when things POP out of nowhere lol. (No, seriously.. I couldn't complete Half Life 1 without her sittin next to me *_*)

Cos I'm a girl I like pretty things and animals etc.. So yes I DO play Zoo Tycoon and the Sims. C'mon, the Sims rocks for those who know how to have fun.
My sort of fun? Well, when The Sims Unleashed came out, I used to adopt a whole lot of dogs and cats, stick em in a room... BURN em, and then use their urns/tombstones to decorate my house when I was building it. And I'm a true lover of animals!
I also used to frequently build houses to put up for trade online (cos my houses rock) and creating new skins etc aint as easy as pie.

I love games where you can kill stuff. Grand Theft Auto 1 used to please me to the state of happy punch, when I'd line up a load of school buses, blow em up... then shoot at the cars that got stuck behind them.

I have spacial awareness and good reflexes, so I'd outdo my male friends on Need For Speed II and Colin McRae Rally frequently. (I'm a natural driver Or so my instructor tells me)
So this is to all the guys who think "Yeah maybe girls PLAY them, but that doesn't mean they have to be good". I bet you every single girl here could give you a run for your money. We all have something in common... we all like, and are GOOD at, computer games.

I've only played Everquest II other than this when it comes to Online Games. I was a kick ass Monk Tank... and that's sayin somethin if you remember Monks from EQ2 I always play warriors usually.

Anyway, quick list of what computer games I have in this box by the comp.. just so you can know just HOW eclectic I am:

Dungeon Seige: Legends of Aranna
Stolen
Pirates of The Caribbean (I love strategy)
Sea World Tycoon
Singles
Lord of The Rings: Return of The King
Everquest II
World of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
World of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne
Zoo Tycoon 2
Might and Magiv IV
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness
Jurassic Park: Genesis
Dominion Wars Star Trek: Deep Space 9
Ghost Master

Oh and er, how to spot a REAL girl?

Easy.. she talks too much

I don't know the specifics of motion sickness in games but I've heard that like, if you get motion sickness you should find the command to reset the point of view of your character.

Something about the way the mind is used to looking at things compared to that of the game disorients some people and if they merely reset the point of view so it's 'normal' it'll all go away.

Unfortunately, in my experience, the best looking females prefer not to associate with the gamers, and the males are too shallow to get past anything other than looks when trying to pick up girls.

I remember watching something on the news or whatnot about a lot of women picking up first person shooting games. And there was an all-female Counter-Strike clan, too. Pretty cool, IMO. Although it sucks when your public server teammates stop coordinating their rush and start harassing any female that makes themselves known.

Girl Gamer (voice chat): Hi guys!

What do you mean? That girl gamers are generally ugly or something? (might've misinterpreted :P) but yeah.. I'm thinking a lot of them aren't, as far as I know you don't have to be ugly to like games

And an all girl clan sounds cool, I hope they were good. When girls get to beat up guys at games it's great, cos most of them just think girls are rubbish (doesn't occur to them that they might've been enjoying games the same time, if not longer than them) I beat the hell outta everyone at Q3 at uni anyway, they dunno what hits em

Never met a female gamer that was at all good at games except for one girl on wc3 she used to kick my ass every time. I don't think standing hitting alt 1 or alt 2 or shift 1 in FFX1 can be classed as being any good!
