What's the best pet you could probably get Pre-Searing
Including Wolves, Bears, all that stuff?

And Post Searing?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Pre-Searing = Bear

Post-Searing = Bear or Dune Lizard ( but that's just my opinion... it really depends on how much u put into Beast Mastery that determines how "strong" ur pet is )

There really is no "best" pet, they all seem about the same to me. I was tempted to dump my level 20 Snow Wolf Chopper for one of those cool-looking Dune Lizards... but nahhh. Probably be about the same, I'd just have to grind to level him up.

You can get a bear in pre-searing? If so, how?

the black bears in pre-searing can be charmed. they are pretty cool too. personally, i like the moss spiders the best. in pvp, people always wonder what that little ball of fuzz is that is running towards them.

Warthogs.
Warthogs are the overall best pets. They are small yet pack quite a wallop. They are cute too .

I second that.

I always get comments on my "Playful Warthog".

By the way, is "playful" tagged onto their names after a certain level?

Ah, and in what area, if you recall did you get your Moss Spider to tame? Seems that there is a certain place only that they are tamable? Ones near B Estates couldn't be charmed by me today. (friendly/green)

Or if anyone knows, would appreciate it. (tips hat)

Me thanks.

When I play PvE in non-20 areas I tend to take pets. So far bears have made the most reliable tanks. They don't do a lot of damage compared to my old wolf (I never put more than six or so points into Beast Mastery), but their brutal mauling skill tends to be enough to get enemies to hate him instead of me, which is really what having a pet is all about in my situation.

It's also important for me to note that of all the pets I've tried, bears tend to stay alive the longest without needing to be tended. This is another important point for me...even when I'm helping people through back missions we can get into bad situations. If my pet dies I'm running that gamble with all my healing spells. He's worked out very well for me.

That said, the wolf did the most damage for my meager investment into beast mastery. He just seemed to have less armor than other pets.

Are Warthogs actually strong or are you just messing around?

Also, could someone tell me how to charm a bear (or the spider?)

Wolf seems to not do much dmg.

Warthogs ARE strong. At early levels he was attacked by 3 level 4 Graws (he was level 5-6) while I was killing their priest. Believe it or not, but the Warthog killed one Graw, almost killed another and was at more than 50% health.

By the way, I named my Warthog Oink in honour of the Oink of Gate of Kryta: when I played the WBE, I always wanted to charm Oink .

I believe "Playful" is a prefix given to your pet if you grant it a lot of attention (comfort animal and such).

Thanks. Did you get your Warthog right outside of Ascalon on the hill? or is there another spot with a higher level one?

what? You can level your pets up? How? do they share experience with you as you kill monsters and they level up with you? I leveled 2.5 levels and my cat.. what's his name that you have to charm for that ranger quest to get more ranger spells... and he's still level 5...

seems playful and hearty have nothing to do with giving it attention; i heal my moa all the time but my boyfriend never even resses his stalker... but both turned 'playful' at level 11 and 'hearty' at level 15

There is one outside Ascalon, but it doesn't always appear. It should be near Althea's stage, towards the hill with the bandits on. Just re-enter the instance a few times til it appears

Thanks for clearing it up, Pevil .

Yes, the Warthog is a wildchild: he loves to wander ALL over Lakeside County.
If you are feeling lucky, you may adventure beyond the wall: there are many warthogs there (and twice as much Charrs).
I should note that Warthog's "Oink! Oink! Sniff-sniff" is much more agreeable than the wolf's howl.

I don't believe you can - there are spiders later in the game that you can tame - they are in the Underworld from what I have read. Cain posted a picture with his.

If you havent renamed your pet yet its given names according to the level

A wolf for example:

Low level (around 5): Wolf
Around 10: Playful Wolf
Around 15: Hearty Wolf
Around 20: Elder Wolf

(Not totally sure about it, because i only had a wolf for a little while)

but when you rename it you cant get those names back anymore (afaik)...

----

I have a bear atm caught in the shiverpeaks, at first it was dead in like 2 blows from any enemy, but it started to work out at lvl 10... now its at lvl 20 and it can take quite a beating and dish out some nice as well...

Hi Guys

instead of hunting around for the warthog thats in the ascalon area, go north past the wall (you need a ally to pull the lever for you to get in the gate) theres always tons of warthogs walking around there, normalyl near the start so you dont even need to get slain by charr

That's what I figured. Oh well, I'd rather have my wolf named Chopper than Elder Wolf. Thank you.

many people ask me this question as a lvl 19 R/Me and i have experienced many of the pets in guild wars.

the best hmm tricky
in order:

lizard = i recently got one of these and it ocasionally makes the enym bleed and it is so stong it killed a lvl 20 monk in pvp when it was lvl 11 which is fasinating.

Bear = Strengh and lots of hp a gr8 pvp pet.

Wolf= very cool... very fast but not much attack damage but a gd pet if your not at draknars forge to get a bear or crystal desert to get the lizard. LVLS UP FAST!!! i made one get to lvl 13 from 5 within an hour of out and about things

Moa Bird = i have never had one of these but from what i have seen there a bit like a wolf except a little more hp but dont take off as much.

malandrew stalker = rubish.. i h8 them they are weak and dont take off much the only bonus is there easy to find pre-searing they looking cool and you gain 250 exp from a quest if ya catch 1.

warthog= i dont like these i have been attacked by one (lvl 20) and i killed it very quickly indeed.

all the other animals i do not know so much about im sorry but if you like i can take you to a bear, wolf or lizard any time you like just pm me (the hunter gatherer is my name )

Well, I was looking for a picture of a pet spider on google and came across this topic, and found this post. Ignorant, uninformed post. Everything you just posted was a guess, and was wrong. There is no best pet, although there is some debate about a pet spider being best. If the pet spider is not hte best, they are ALL EQUAL. The only difference is asthetics, and their damage type, piercing, slashing, blunt.

Your pet also gets prefixes based on how they fight. As far as I know there are two series of prefixes, HP inreasing, damage decreasing "Playful Series" and the other one, which does the vise-versa, or something of the sort.

Pioneer of the pet build here guys. Have a close look at the info in that guide. See how the pets are listed by level? The gain 3 AC per level and their dmg scales up as well. I do belive theer a SLIGHT differnces in the pets. I STILL have't confirmed it but thiey seem to have a minor differnece in resistances.
Their dmg type also seems acurate.
I've had a Spider for AGES now and I've never seen him poison ONCE. Either it's extreamly rare or just not there.

Personally I belive them to be a cosmetic differnce. Don't tame the wolf in PvE. It never shuts up and is the default in PvP.
Pet's Popularity (As in number of times I've seen them.)in My experiance (Most popular to least)

1. Wolf
2. Spider
3. Bear
4. Lizard
5. Moa
6. Hog
7. Stalker
8. Lynx

My Personal Favorites.

1. Moa
2. Lynx
3. Hog
4. Bear
5. Lizard
6. Spider
7. Stalker
8. Wolf

Moss spiders are not charmable. All pets are identical armor and damage wise, or extremely close to it. The animations are different, however, so it just looks like your bear attacks slower. After charming, 'brutal mauling' is just for looks. It doesn't add any damage. Basically, choose the pet you think is cutest.

The only difference between pets is their evolution, aka dire, playful, elder, etc. Elder being the top dog. This is why most people think that Underworld spiders are the best pets - they start off in the elder evolution.
A wolf can also be captured in the elder form, although it's location escapes my memory. Use the search button.

So yeah, in conclusion, all the pets are the same. Any differences you might have noticed were imaginary. There has been a ton of testing on this. Although... one thing that hasn't been tested is elemental resistance. I suppose that one animal could be more resistant to a certain element than another.

In my personal opinion, i love the moa bird up untill u get to ascension. (which u need for UW). My personal favorite is the elder black widow. You get this at the end of the thiurd quest in UW. At the end of each of the quests, u can see a spider walking around and u can tame it. They go in order of overall power too. The first one is decent, then at the end of the second quest it is even better, and of course the third gives u the elder black widow which is drop down nasty. It has the best overall stats in the game and is very rare. I havent seen many with it, and every time i go into combat with it people always ask about it. Nothing like a Monk/Ranger with it just for shits and giggles...(i only bring charm animal and serpents when playing like this...then the rest healing for my partners)
Plus all the UW spiders start at MAX level!
