[Merged] March 13 Update: Roll back to 1 PM Pacific, 21 GMT, officially announced

What if you traded the items with someone else -

Will they still be able to track that it was the ones bought at the low price? Say you bought all those shards and then gave them to someone for "free". Or perhaps you traded them legitly for money.

Due to a server error, Guild Wars experienced an unintentional reset of the traders. For nearly an hour, traders were selling items at unrealistically low prices. Due to the harmful impact that such an event would cause to the game economy, we are rolling back the entire state of the game to shortly before the problem began, that is, to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, 21:00 GMT.

Lets say there was a rollback, can you imgane just getting your first 15^50 req 8 Crystalline from hoh, and then logging back in to see everyone was rolledback? I highly doubt that, it is possible, just not very likely. Why should A-net punish those nice folks getting their first 15^50 awesome drops, just cuz I LOOTED the trader.

This isn't a flame by any means, just a different perspective on those who think A-net might rollback everyone.

Cool. I don't mind. I'll just have to go cap Crippling Anguish again, I guess. No biggie.

Glad ANet decided on a direction to fix this. Hopefully the devs and anyone else working on the programming to fix this can relax. I feel bad for them having to work like crazy to fix this.

You offcourse realize this would mean a multiTerabyte storage to get states of say 1 day of all GWplayers maybe.....

i am curious though what Anet's response will be

They don't make backups all the time. They have a "transaction-log" in which there are record based entries for things that change in the game. Most likely purchases from the traders are logged in such a way.

They could choose to just roll back those and leave everything else intact.

transaction log is all well and good, but you have thousands of people making transactions as fast as they can click "request quote" then "buy" for about 45 minutes straight, the MASSIVE amount of log that would have to be reversed by that way ....

Also with the new update coming out who wants the old armor anyways? Hopefuly the new stuff has a nice look, and isn't just the same old trash, then there will be nothing to spend money on. It will be like Diablo all over again where gold itself has no value and people will be trading in runes or upgrades.
Why would this wreck the value of FOW? Money in this game is fleeting. Past a certain point anyway. It's the items that are in FOW that will keep people going back to it.

I may be a millionaire but I still don't have all those Shadow Blades that I want to find not buy. I've loved that weapon ever since I first saw it.

Same goes for all the Ele staves that have been introduced. Sure I could buy em' but where would the fun be in that?

I'd rather buy keys, and hope I get lucky...

Owned? From what I gather what happened in the last 2 hours did not happen. Its like when you go out into an instance and ge things but soon discover your connection crapped out, has happened to me a few times but oh well.

it better rollback ??? or what ???

you gonna call the lucky ecoglitch players names ?

Just swallow it i say, somehow only the ones that could not get their hands on some cheap runes/materials find this all "unfair".

I wonder if you would have felt like that when you stocked up those 200 shards u needed for FoW.

Well, a rollback is probably the fairest thing to do (and i speak as someone who would have profited to the tune of several million had they decided not to).

Although, i think the economy would have been fine. There can't have been more than a few thousand players on, and not all of them buying items, vs many tens or hundreds of thousands not on....it's not like everyone suddenly has the items, only a few do, and so with so many people still without them and needing them, prices would have stabilised back up again (albeit possibly at a slightly lower level than before)

A decent server can reroll a million transactions in seconds. Considering the problem has been around for an hour and ppl had to go through the process of getting a quote and buying only single pieces at a time, i think the rollback - once started - should be done in a few minutes.

My guess is it will take a few hours because they have to bring in some personnel and off course check and doublecheck every action to prevent more trouble.

Personally I couldn't care less if someone got rich as long as the money wasn't taken from me. Those who weren't online at the specific time can ask themselves "Do I want a rollback and lose the exp, skill points, items, completed missions etc I gained during the last few hours just so that someone else doesn't get rich?"

I wasn't on when this happened last time a few months ago, and if they had done a rollback, I'd have been mighty pissed if I had lost any of the aforementioned things. This time I happened to be online and got some shards, but those are not what I'm concerned about if a rollback happens. We did Kepkhet runs all evening and got the staff for 3 guildies, one of the guildies capped a spider in UW, not to mention the personal progress everyone did on their own.

Are't good things usually done without expecting some sort of reward in return? Its called karm, you do good and eventually "fair" good will be done to you.

I've read all that but I doubt that such rollback as they say is posible...
And even if it is and they will do it there will be two points 1st good that economics was not harmed at overal but 2d from players who will suffer from this rollback, some got some good drops on that time, some sold smg at price they wanted to sell it, some bought smg at good price, some did a hard mission or finished hard skill capture, so it will cause a great wave of unpleased people. I think ANet will have to do something about it like new cristmass or heloween or like free functions to all

YES! A Rollback!

I am actually believing since they are reversing time, so to speak, they all get their cash back?

I do wish they would let those who were going to share keep theirs...
