R/Me Solo FoW Forest Farming [video]
Evilsod
Lol no hope hitching rides in chest runs no more.
The last 2 chest runs i went on. The first, 1 W/Me that promptly went to the beach. 3 R/Me that all went the forest (whats the point?). The 1 after 4 W/Me that ALL went to the beach.
Seriously it costs less but all you do then is RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO it up for the rest of us. The 2nd run we headed off to skeletons with only 4 people, found a chest and had to retreat and heal. Got back to the chest opened it and all 4 of us exploded in a mass of traps we didn't notice then got raped by the group of skeletons, if it had been a proper 8man run we'd of been ok.
I use the same build Primitivefarmer uses w/ Savage instead of Distracting. Really don't have any energy problems and i use Dragos Flat Bow. Moment i'm running low vs Spirit Shephards, stick Storm Chaser on and infinite energy for 19 seconds. I can interrupt Apply Poison fine aslong i see the spider.

I could change to my marks mask for the spiders, but i simply can't be arsed.

Just one question: do you rekon an elbon long/flatbow would do extra damage on spirit shepherds? I haven't tried this (no elbon bow with a low req
).
PS: great build - there are so many rangers in fow now thanks to it (I'm glad to have bought a +20 prunning grip before the popularity of this build dramatically increase the price btw
).
Haha, i know!
I'm both happy and shocked. They aren't letting any more R/Mes into chest running groups.
Re: the elemental bowstring... it doesn't really matter, because Kindle will convert your base arrow damage type to fire. And an elemental bowstring will do less damage to the spiders.

Does anyone else have the Rock Borers attack them or is it just me? I've tried all of my bows: flat, long, recurve. Doesn't matter, they always attack me, no matter how far away I stand. It's not a big deal since the only thing they really do is Choking Gas, Pin Down, and Lightning Reflexes. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

This was mentioned and answered somewhere in the thread before I believe. Anyway, the trick to fighting them is as soon as the Wurm pop out, just stop where you are and pick them off. Usually when you move after they pop out they will attack you (Of course, if a patrol is going to run into you, be ready to hightail it out of there)

They'll ttack you if 1/ you comeclose enough to hit them with a sword... Dont stand in the middle of them. Or 2/ if you run away. If you are too far when you attack (longbow range) they'll attack you as well. Beside that, I have never seen them attacking.
I guess you dont go there with a pet who willattack them in melee, and you're alone... If it's the case it's rather strange. If it's not it just mean one of the member of your team is too far (and there is ALWAYS a member who is too far when you're in a team).

I dyed mine green+yellow.
Neon green ftw.
Speaking of strange bows, anyone else have one of these?
I've come to the conclusion that when customized it's around 16-27.5 damage, req3.
Too bad it fires SO slow. I get a casting bar on poison arrow...

0.33 * 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.0825% attack speed.

Yeah the Rock Borers always seem to attack at very inconvenient times. I've found that if you just make them pop up and keep them within your agro circle they ignore you. Lets me clear all 6 at the start in 1 huge EoE bomb :P
That is possibly the worst bow i've ever seen...
I really do wanna see how slow you attack with that bow, Shadow and Faint on you... You could probably make a cup of tea before the animation was over.

I'm definitly gonna try this build out when my R/Me is ready for it. He's currently a lvl 10 so it might be a while before i can try this build.
I loved the video also the music was good to. Gotta show it to a friend of mine when she comes online.
Thanks for sharing this remmeh!

Happens sometime, deep freeze is AoE, so just keep a bit of distance to the shadow army once they're at it and you should be fine.
Also remember to not wait too long before running after you got em fighting, or they will likely kill one or two and focus on you, in my experience.
Personally I TU, run past shadows, TU again, pull skellies, run back until they're close or fighting, then storm chase away from them, pop another TU, and while SC is still active, run back past the bunch.

Great build! I was only able to try it twice before we lost favor. First time I died while running to the forest, second time I got killed by spiders XD. I'll get the hang of it eventually.
Also another option of not paying the 1k to solo FoW would be to hook up with a w/me who solo's the beach. He pays 500, you pay 500 and since your in opposite ends of the place you both are able to carry out your normal solo routine.

today i had like 3 runs where i got to the forest and did something stupid and died. i cannot belive the stupid stuff i do. then my 4th time i droped 2 obs shards and a obs key (which i dont use because i think they suck, whats the point?) and that payed for the next 4 runs i did, each one of them i had to pull the skellys and faile misserably each time. im beginning to think i suck at this farming, but it is so much fun. and i killed my first spiders today. i used a recurve bow on them because i dont have a short bow yet. pretty fun.

grats. =) spiders are the hardest part... took me a while (and a lot of the posters in this thread) to find the most efficient way to kill them (vampiric shortbow, distracting shot on apply poison)

wait we ditched savage for distracting? i thought i read every post here. well ya im pretty happy. im going to go get the collecotr short bow from the desert once i get back on. so (just because i is a lazy basterd) what (dam i cant remember what the sufixes are called for bows) you guys use?
Huntmaster
I stick with basically the standard build, except Ele Res. instead of Mantra. I don't have problems with anything..

I did this a few times with a guildie actually.. Found it not to be worth it. Guild Wars splits the money 50/50, no matter the distance between you, and there seems to be quite a bit of money in the forest, and hardly any in the spider cave. In other words I ended up loosing money on the deal. Not alot, but noticeable.

True, but the main source of money from this run consists of the following:
Rare crafting materials (shards, sapphires, rubies)
Gold chests
but almost always, if you clear the entire forest, you will end up with 18+ Gloom Seeds, 6+ Shadowy Husks, and a few spider legs. Maybe I just don't notice the amount of gold I pick up, but it's certainly not a lot.

Back to the using a vamp shortbow for killing the spiders faster (Boulderbeard's was mentioned, I believe).. this could be the first decent use for Drago's Vamp Flatbow
5/1 vamp, 15% stance, and +5 defense - flatbows have same firing rate as shortbows, and the range would prevent the overpulling problem some people had using shortbows.

I've only found gold chests in the forest. So far nothing fun has popped out other than a +5 Insightful Staff Head.
Doing this run for non-Shard cash is probably not a good use of time.

DUH! I ruled it out because of the Apply Poison from the Spiders (who needs another pip of degen?), but because of Distracting Shot and the technique described a few pages back, I stay nice and healthy. Thanks for bringing this up again!

The one I did try was just a crappy gold item. Wrt. going with a warr.. I just dont see the point when I'm just loosing money on it. Evilsod
The thing about chests is if you spend 1k per key, you'll probably make an average loss of about 800-600 per chest drop. Which means after 30k worth of keys you will most likely of found at least 1 sellable item or mod from the 35-40ish chests. So you should still be breaking even at least, even if you don't notice it. Not to mention if you get really lucky and get a perfect damage modded chaos you'll be making a lot more back.
I still prefer Savage over Distracting. Nothing will convince me otherwise. With FW rather than Mantra missing Apply Poison with Savage Shot is almost impossible (unless you keep interrupting Spring with it like i did 3 times in a row...). The possibility of Dual Shot + Savage Shot on 1 target at a time makes for much more damage imo. Considering that Spirit Woods shouldn't survive long enough to use a 2nd Unguent, the fiery Savage Shot will do alot more than Distracting too. remmeh

I like having Mantra just in case... that way Chain Lightning doesn't hit me for 106, but only 69 Also... I like distracting simply because you hit Apply Poison with it right at the outset, and bam, 32 seconds without poison. Healing spring is taken care of by the shortbow's rapid refire... although i do miss the punch that dual+savage does :P LoKi Foxfire
I'm still wondering what I could replace Mantra with if the Forest didn't have such horrible problems with enemy positioning versus where they really are. I was thinking of maybe Conjure Phantasm if I could spare the points from elsewhere. Overall, it wouldn't help though since it costs a decent amount of energy to cast. :/

But the way i see it the longer you go without it the more aware you'll be so you'll avoid them anyway. FW speeds everything up so much, it may benefit the Spiders too but you kill em faster so it hardly makes a difference. Also with FW you may only need to interrupt it 2 or 3 times max. Been able to take that Apply out for 20seconds longer really isn't worth losing the mini-spike you can do on everything with Savage. XanderWhilkes
Thanks for this, Remmeh!
I have yet to try this, but I plan on trying it soon. Your videos are very good quality, and after watching the forest fighting one, I went onto emusic.com and downloaded Of Montreal's new CD. It's been in my truck CD player almost constantly ever since. I'll have to post feedback if and when I actually try the run. Thanks again! [DE]
I find the mantra very useful, when I shoot up on the hill to get guys out of my way, the range is shortened so they usually use there spells on me. Without mantra there I'd be in some big trouble.
Oh yea, and I just did my 3rd run a few minutes ago. After I killed the first sheperd, the next two both dropped shards for me remmeh
whoa, people are bringing FW now too? haha i think the only skills that people haven't modified are Dual/Poison/Kindle/Stormchaser.

I've been running a pure ranger build down there using greather conflagration.. Works alright, but its too slow.. As I recall it was something like: Penetrating Attack, Savage Shot, Apply Poison, Whirling Defense, Storm Chaser, Troll Unguent, Greather Conflag.
Think it might work pretty well if e.g. Conjure Flame from elementalist was added... I don't personally like apply poison though.. Just dont seem to work as well, not just the duration.. remmeh

Yep it did seem to, I doubt the CF would add much of damage, since kindle will do more.. Besides that, I'm just using a slight variation of yours, still the best build out there :P

im finding it harder and harder to get to the forest, i keep dieing at the skeletal/shadow mesmer and ele bit :/ before i would get there 90% now ive tried about 6 times and not got there once
