Well in terms of getting new content.. now we know why it's not a pay to play game :P
I really hope they do implement this soon, I don't want to see guild wars prophecies players only get good new content when a new chapter comes out.

I'm not a technical person, but I'm sure there's something to do with the way that GW is set up vs many other pay to play online RPG's that makes an auction house a difficult system to set up. I bet if it was easy for them to set up an auction house, they'd have already done it. They're intelligent people. Also, you notice in every communication that they'll mention that they're working on a way to 'greatly improve trading' etc. but they never mention the words auction house. So I'm not getting my hopes up for that.
However, a possible suggestion, which isn't nearly as good as an auction house, but will solve a lot of problems and may actually be technically implementable within GWs current scheme might be:
Weapon / armor traders that are very similar to the current material traders. GW servers just keep a database of all of the possible modifications each item in the game can have (+11% dmg in stance, +15% wrap of enchant, etc.) and their current value. If you want to buy a 20/20 fire staff with an enchant wrap on it, you go to the trader and make your custom weapon. It sums up the current value of all of the mods you want (charges a premium) and gives you a price you could pay. After you buy it, the system registers the demand for those mods by increasing the price slightly for the next buyer. (the exact same way the material/rune traders work). If there's too great an imbalance, a modification could sell out. If you're a seller, the trader evaluates the mods on your item you want to sell, sums them up and gives you a sell price. (subject to a discount)
Let's face it, there are enough people playing GW and the game's itemization is such that weapons and armor in the game are fairly commoditized. There's no reason I need to choose to buy a +30 health mod from one player over another. This isn't WoW with umpteen million different types of items. I think the values of all of the various mods could be kept track of as easily as the value of silver dye.
I think this is a fair solution that should help cut the amount of WTB/WTS spam. If I get a really good gold drop, I don't want to spend 3 hours trying to sell it for 15k or whatever it "should" be worth. I'd be happy to sell it for 5k at some sort of trader as mentioned above. I just don't want to sell it for 200 gold to the regular trader. So right now, I'm forced to spend the time spamming the trade chat.
You really don't see people spamming trade messages for runes anymore, barring the big ticket items.
Just my thoughts, seeing as how I'm not sure that an auction house as found in other games is technically implementable in this game.

i wonder how long time it could take if a-net decided to make an auction house...
Shonmi Woolyhead
I'm thinking the proposal of having an auction house spanning the continent would be ideal, but that it would take too many resources -- the limit on # of ppl allowed in the "auction house" district would be at max and overflowing with ppl who's single purpose would be to stay in the district and sell or buy for their guildies...
An intermediary solution would be a sort of town Buletin Board, where u could put up items for sale, items you're looking for, warnings of scams, etc. The BBS would hold your messages as long as you were in town, allowing others to click on your name to talk to you and buy items. Seems like something that would be more easily implemented and would reduce the trafic of trade spamming, especially in the big trade towns...?

Upgraded trading system. Ooh WTB and WTS now go to the Trade channel. BIG DEAL. Mods come in there and say to use the Trade Channel. How about the auction house to fix all the WTB WTS spam issues.

In hopes that the sellers actually use it, and stop spreading like a disease everywhere trying to sell their junk. lol

sorry if these have been suggested before (10 pages is hard to look through with limited time)
- There should be a limit to the number of items that one person is selling, otherwise this could be used as an infinate storage area
- It should operate much like the auction system on this website does, besides being in-game and auctions automatically completing trades
- Items for sale should be available everywhere, in all houses, or the house could be located in the battle isles so is available to everyone in all campaigns

no not a limit of spaces put in an time limit instead, maybe 24 hour or someting.. after that u have another 24 hour to pick the item up at the nearest auction house...

Cheers to an old thread. I for one would like to see if ANET is actually looking at this, like from a post.
I am sick of seeing all chat cluttered with people getting around the WTB and WTS moves to trade channel. Something needs to be done, and this something should have been done before factions was released.

They could even implement the control-click on an item to put the description up in the color of the item, and you could just add the percentages or exact plusses on the item and price range.
Shonmi Woolyhead
Of course, they could implement a new merchant type, the auctioneer, and you could give the merchant an item, it would be seen by all checking in with the auctioneer at all towns, just like the material traders are, but with a count-down timer added... the item goes in at a base price, and there is 10 seconds for someone to "buy" it at that price, but instead of allowing the exchange to go through, the auctioneer steps up the price to the next level for 10 seconds. if noone buys it at that level, the auctioneer lets it go at the previously accepted price, otherwise if someone is willing to pay the new price, he steps it up again and again, until noone is willing to go higher. he then sells it at the last accepted price...
If noone buys the item in the 10 seconds, you get the item back, and as usual have to wait your turn again to place the next item, or the same onto the auction list.
To prevent scams, the autioneer could take 10%-25% of the aution price, so you can't have friends keep buying items just to raise the expected price.

i like ur idee, but maby abit longer time then 10 sec? maybe 20-30 sec, so that u have the time to check if its worth it or not.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before but i'd like to see different auctions houses in different cities selling different items.
i.e. Droks auction house sells weapons upgrades, Ascalon auction house sells greens, HoD sells dye, and so on...

Seriously, I want to see this starred, stickied, and placed in every Guild War's home. I want to see local used for what it was meant for, I want to see the trade channel reduced to bulk item sales, and I want my guild to stop complaining about the time it takes them to sell one item!
This has gone on long enough!

if ANet is really listening to what we players want.. then this should be in-game for months ago :/ we will have to see the facts.. they dont really care about this :/
