4Energy Burn
Defensive part:
5Spirit of Failure
6Distortion
7Ether Feast
8Resurrection Signet
Of the spike part, Phantom Pain + Shatter Hex may be the main skills, because they recharge faster, they do not depend upon the target's energy and they are usefull as a final thrust. Aslo, they are casted in first place to lower the foe's health and get a bigger relative damage with the other two. Am I right?
Other similar build which I have tried is with
1Phantom Pain
2Shatter Hex
3Energy Burn
4Shatter Enchantment
5Signet of Midnight
6Drain Enchantment
7Ether Feast
8Resurrection Signet
This build may be weaker than the previous build, the idea of using 4Shatter Enchantment and 6Drain Enchantment is to not be so obsessed by bonder monks... . The Signet of Midnigh is easier to use, and may be combined with Epidemic to try to have under control warriors, but, may be less effective than Spirit of Failure + Distortion as self help.
And another build based in the burns spikes is:
1Distortion
2Energy Surge
3Energy Burn
4Mind Wrack
5Signet of Waeriness
6Energy Tap
7Ether Feast
8Resurrection Signet
The idea is to do spike damage by draining energy, for this I try to find the oportunity to trigger Mind Wrack, the oportunity may come as the fight becomes long and energy may get low. For this build Energy Tap and Ether Feast are required for energy and health as well for they draining of energy! Who wich one is the drop of energy which will trigger Mind Wrack?
Any comment?
sooooo who are you spiking with pp/shatter hex? or did you mean shatter delusions?

Soooorry. You are right.

I have a general Mesmer build that I use for most PvE situations. It seems to work pretty well, but is heavily anti-caster.
Domination :16 (Superior Domination Rune and Domination Mask)
Illusion: 10
Fast Casting:10
Inspiration: Everything else
My typical skill list is with commentary;
1. Conjure Phantasm (Illusion): Give Health Degen -5 for 10 seconds. This spell is generally good against everything. Useful when combined with Empathy or Backfire to take down a foe.
2. Empathy (Domination): For 21 seconds, whenever foe attacks he takes 31 damage. Useful against Warrior/Ranger types. Long effect time of 21 seconds is nice.
3. Backfire (Domination): For 10 seconds, whenver foe casts a spell he takes 147 damage. One of the key spells for taking down enemy spellcasters. Combine with Conjure Phantasm for good effect. Luckily in PvE, the monsters still cast with this one them.
4. Power Block (Elite Domination): Interrupt foe casting a Spell. Disables the spell and ALL spell of the same attribute for 16 seconds. A great shut-down interrupt. Disabling all spells of the same attribute is very useful against most enemy spellcasters.
5. Leech Signet (Inspiration): Interrupt target foes action, gain some energy. The key to this interrupt is that it’s a zero cost signet and it interrupts ACTIONS not spells.
6. Power Drain (Inspiration): Interrupt target foes spell, gain some energy. At 5 energy this is a nice low cost interrupt, whatever energy you gain is a plus.
7. Power Spike (Domination): Interrupt target foes spell, foe takes 107 damage. The other must have interrupt as it deals a good amount of damage.
8. Rebirth (Monk): Emergency Res. If necessary.
I most situations the first three skills (CP, Emp, & BF) are always in my skill bar. Slots 4 through 8 can vary depending on the situtation. Cry of Frustration often ends up in one of those slots as it interrupts skills not just spells and deals damage & interrupts adjenct foes. Shatter Hex/Enchantment are also very useful for removal/damage dealing. Echo/Arcane Echo gives you twice the firepower if you find a certain spell works well. Energy Surge is a good opening and finishing move.

IMO, DoctorEvil, dropping Power Spike for Clumsiness might be good. Glad to see some more PvE Power Blocking
EDIT: Oh, didn't notice this was one-and-a-half month inactive already.

i Recently started a mesmer (well bout 3 weeks ago) and im enjoying it immensly (just got FoW chest piece for him last night and its like.. great) but anyways on to the point
i agree with the standard interrupt build but heres an idea for IW
16 (sup illuision and illusion mask) Illusion magick
11 inspiration
Rest in fast cast
IW, Flurry, Ether Feast, Conjure Phantasm (or Arcane Conundrum) ,Illusion of weakness, Distortion (this is great for 1v1 vs wars cas you can hit them and they cant hit you. plus you loose 1 energy per hit which you regen faster then they can hit you), Clumsiness, and Res signet.
Note Clumsiness is a very good skill, specially if you use a good weapon set up (im using a Max, req 9 +14%^50%, sundering 10/9 (not that that matters, but now the important part) enchantments +19% flamberge and The RockMolder which: is max, req 9, +12 energy, +10% casting speed, and illusion +1 (20%). With the rockmolder you can end up hitting in 100s with Clumsiness and spamming 44 with IW.
ALSO: idea~~ why not make a build using Arcane Echo, Ineptitude, Clumsiness, and Empathy as an anti war
These are mostly pvp builds however, ive found (not like a solo build) you can solo around 2 or 3 lvl 22 sand drakes and the like with IW build easily.
REPLY WITH IDEAS, just a test message
PS: for IW you really need the +18% or more on your sword, it helps a ton and lets you almost always keep IW up. Tell Me What You Think

As Far as im concerned, IW mesmers are not dead~!, ppl do not coutner them often and they are highly effective in PVP and even quite able to solo in PVE (not like 55, but reasonably well like 3 lvl 20-24 mobs)
Mesmer/Warrior
heres my attributes:
Illusion: 16 (12 + 1 [mask] +3 [sup illusion rune]
Inspiration 11 (10 + 1 [minor inspiration rune]
Rest in Fastcasting
SKILLS :::
Illusionary Weaponry {elite}
Flurry
Ether Feast
Conjure Phantasm
Illusion of Weakness {precast before fighting, for an emergency heal}
Distortion {-1 energy per hit, basically anti warrior skill}
Clumsiness {near 100 dmg and easy to get on ppl}
Res sig {everyone has it, or should have it}
Basically: use IW to do 42 dmg per swing no matter what (no evasion/blocking/dodging it) 44 on occasion if you opt to use an offhand like the Rockmolder such as i do. Flurry is spammable and thats what its there for!, its the only stance you should be using unless your under heavy warrior atttack (in which case spam distortion instead). Ether Feast is a quick pop off skill for 90ish heal, Phantasms just to annoy ppl with a 5 degen that lasts a long time, Clumsiness + distortion is what you should use vs a war (on top of IW they will go down before you )
Dont Forget: Cast Illusion of WEakness before a battle, so that when you get down to 25% you get healed fro near 250 health.

quick question!! I'm not at home so I can't try this out, but does IW work with Vigorous Spirit?
Avarre
It counts as an attack, even if it doesn't hit, so yes.

Chaos Storm: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...torm-id401.php I always have those two equipped during PvE - "Chaos Storm" works great with my secondary Necro skills "Suffering" and "Shadow of Fear" - when all combined i can slow down grouped enemies, hex their life AND take their energy all in one go!
It tends to take a lot out of me - so i usually energy tap on one of them while this is going on. It works everytime though - if they survive then my team mates just need a few more hits and everybody is dead ^.^

I stopped using Chaos Storm after the AoE update.
Well, well, everyone has their own playstyle...

Well, well, everyone has their own playstyle... True but I find that since I've made it to Cantha from Tyria the enemies in JaJa bluffs and that general area of cantha are still pretty slow when it comes to chaos storm.
just a quick question - what did you use to replace chaos storm?

There are definitely better experts than I for Illus Weap, but here's some thoughts...
You aren't restricted by any minimum req on your weapon, while getting full benefit from mods (say +7 armor sword hilt or something). This plus a +16 armor shield makes for some respectable armor level where you won't get chewed up so fast. Lay on an extra armor-boosting stance or signet, and you become survuvable in the thick of things.
My tactic has been to throw a hex or two at my target, then charge in with IW, then spam flurry and miscellaneous signets as needed. Even bosses drop pretty quickly. I'll throw on a defensive/evasion stance and run out of melee if things get hairy, then repeat at the next opportunity.
Most enemy groups are totally wiped out after three or four cycles of this. I call it "Bobbing for Baddies".
(edited to add another thought) Also of note, the IW core build still leaves 3 or 4 skill slots open to tweak the direction of your play style, e.g. you can be more energy focused, or interrupt focused, or anti-caster focused, etc which gives a lot of flexibility depending on the types of enemies you face. It shines best if there are at least 1 or 2 dedicated other warriors in your group which draw the initial aggro from enemies, giving you the flexibility to choose the best target. "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee."

I've stuck to this build for quite a while and it works out pretty well for me (no elite skills):
Mesmer/Monk
Fast Casting:11
Domination Magic:14
Inspiration Magic:10
Healing Prayers:1
Empathy
Cry of Frustration
Energy Burn (I'll change that to Energy Surge when I cap it)
Ether Feast
Shatter Enchantment
Backfire
Power Spike
Shatter Hex -OR- Restore Life (depends on whether I'm with people or just henchies and heroes)
I did have to change my skills a tiny bit in hopes of defeating Glint (which still hasn't happened yet...) to the following:
Substitute Energy Burn with Blackout
Substitute Shatter Enchantment with Diversion
Substitute Power Spike with Inspired Hex
and use Restore Life since it's for a mission.

What is a good Me/Mo Build for Pre-Searing?
Dean Harper
you only get the skills from pre, so just use Empathy, Backfire, Conjure, Shatter, Bane Signet/Banish, Symbol of Wrath, Ether Feast/Orison, or both. Not much to it really. You can throw in a prot spell too if u want.
