There are no more single farming areas that you can abuse over and over again unless you find an extremely good chest farming area, but personally I find chest farming way to boring and tedious. I can farm for 40-50k/hr, but actually thats kind of misleading. It's more like 4-5k per 6 minutes. After 2 runs of an area, I find that the monsters start to drop less stuff. So it's probably not good to go farming crazy for more than an hour or two every day. I just do an hour of farming then do some quests or play with other characters afterwards.
Also, there are many farmable areas, I think I have 10 different areas I go to. You just have to be very observant and notice what types of monsters are around and what you can take advantage of using YOUR build. You may have seen some amazing Ele/Mo farming video, but it won't do you any good if you are not an Ele/Mo and if you don't have the right equipment (i.e. I saw a Warrior do some amazing farming run but I didn't have Superior Absorption so I can't even come close to imitating his run). Basically I just go through my list of decent farming areas and run them all once or twice and then continue with material farming in other less farmable areas (as in areas that don't have a horde of similar monsters that can easily be slaughtered with a build designed to take that type out). You'd be surprised at how much material farming can get you, I think once I got lucky and made about 5k in a 5min run because I got a few rare materials. The good thing about material farming is that you basically clear most of a map rather than just hit a large group of monsters in that you have found an optimized build for in only 2 minutes. That would cause the anti-farming code to kick in after 10 mins. If I am in serious need of gold, I would go back and do another run of my more optimized areas after doing a few material maps.
And the original poster made a really good point about selling items. I'm not talking about the rare case where you happened to buy for 10k and sell for 50k etc. But selling in general, It's not worth it to sell an item unless you can sell it quickly. I've seen people trying for 20 minutes to sell a 2k gold item. In that much time a sprint+charge warrior could have made that much money doing boring chest runs. Time = money. Also I find selling items alot more annoying than farming creatures. I can't deal with annoying people. I have also found that in general for stuff like rune's and dye, it's not worth dealing with people. Why sell to people when you can sell to a trader? Usually you can sell to a trader for something like 80% of the trader's selling price. Nobody would buy your rune/dye/material for 100% of trader price (otherwise they would have brought it already), so you have to place it at about 90% of the traders price. Actually this logic is still flawed. Currently the usual price for a Superior Vigor is about 40k. However, if the price were to go up to 45k or 50k which it does occasionally, you are not going to be able to sell yours for 45k, people would rather wait until the price goes back down to 40k or even dip below (I've seen 37k, etc). So, it's best to hang on to the Rune if you don't want it and sell it when the trader prices happen to go up to 45k, then you can sell it for somewhere around 35k instantly and spend the rest of the time farming rather than trying to find some guy who is too stupid to realize how to take advantage of varying trader prices. I've waited until the Superior Absorption which is usually above 55k to drop down to 42k before I brought mine. I don't understand why people even try to sell stuff that is worth less than 1k at all. I see people saying "WTS blue dye 250g" or something. Even in ascalon, you can go outside and kill some level 3 monster and get that much gold in the 5 min it takes for you to find someone to buy the dye. Just sell to a trader for 150 instead of 250 and kill 2 enemies. In general, this would be good for the consumers (players) because it would optimize our money making strategy and it would bring down the prices of dyes and runes (actually I suspect the reason why the rune market is so cheap now is because rune farmers have found that it is useless to try to sell runes to players unless its the vigor or absorption and that it's best to dump it at the trader and continue farming).

I found a handy trick to farming for materials is go to any charr areas. Basicly most anywhere around Ascalon. Even the Crawl drop items to use. I went through the area where you get Althea's Ashes, its all Charr in there. 30 mins and I had them all cleaned out. Got a bottle of purple dye, some purple armor I salvaged into mesmer runes of magic and took all the charr carvings and everything else they dropped into bolts of cloth and other materials. That was my first time farming but I intend to go back there countless times to do this. Its easy and maybe I'll let someone tag along so they can get the ashes. I found good prices for materials seem to be in Lion's Arch. I plan now on going back through all the areas I know Charr like to hang out, sure I get no experience from killing them as I'm to high a lv. But the drops are worth it.

In response to NoblePaladin's comments - well put.
Only rarely do I sell to other players. Often I even (gasp) sell gold items to the merchant for the storage space because I don't want to deal with the trade. On occasion I will sell raw materials or rare weapons to other players but I give a firm fair price.
An update: I have just hit the 960k gold mark.

Me and my guildies (there are only 4 of us lol) went through that too. SO PAINFUL to fail on those. Thankfully now they are much less.
Regardless.. after we unlocked for awhile we started salvaging without identifying and that became profitable after the traders/nerf.
Interesting stuff.
I... really wanted fow armor... but I was so turned off. Totally not my look for ANY of my character classes. So I was sort of disappointed.
I still might get monk. I really wanted it for my ele first and foremost tho. I think it looks awesome, but I really just prefer my geomancer armor. :/

I can "sorta" understand if you're playing in the korean realm and got 1000kg. Your stash is amazing. If I didn't know better, I'd say you either bot, eBay consumer or a professional farmer. I mean, you're the first one I've seen with over 120k. You're making the millionairs a joke. Would you like to share some ? =)

Woah. Sapphires are so much cooler than rubies. I think I'll have to go trade my ruby for a sapphire now that I know how much cooler they look. Anyways, my personal opinion is that farming is stupid. Yeah, I'm blunt, I know. Farming just plain isn't fun. There are ways to make money that are nearly as good that are infinitely more fun. For example: Fissure runs. I'm lucky I guess, so that might be part of why I think this, but you can make a hell of a lot of money from Fissure runs. I've ran it... oh, 10, 15 times. I started with like... oh 500 gold. Now I have 20k, a ruby, five shards, and I think around 10 max dmg bows, axes, and swords. Add to this all the incredibly easy experience, and how fun it is to run the Fissure... and I'm of the opinion that, as I said before, farming is stupid.
Xue Yi Liang
You're entitled to your opinion.
But "Running the Fissure" IS farming. In fact, it's one of the places I frequently go. I have 23 shards and 13 ecto - all of them I got on drops - none purchased. The bows you see in my storage are all gold, max with req 8 or req 9 - and various mods. I have 2 perfect vampiric strings I haven't used yet. The fiery sword is gold max (req 8 sword) with +14%.
So I don't understand what you mean by "farming is stupid." That's exactly what you're doing. I just happen to make more consistent money with the raw materials I get along the way.
But if you're making the same runs you should be salvaging many rare materials like I am. -
If you haven't THAT'S what I call being stupid.

Are there any places where a lvl 20 warrior can farm alone?

Your use of the term "stupid" is incredibly naive.
Different people get different things out of the game, that's what makes it fun. Some players collect 15k armor. Some people spend all their time playing with emotes and chatting with friends at Lion's Arch. Some people want to master the HoH. Some want to make all-pink armor. Good for all of them - none of that is "stupid." After all, it's still just a game and it's about having fun, no matter how you do it. It's dumb if you haven't realized that by now.
So why am I gathering money? The reason is simple: I've already finished the game more than once. I've done just about every bonus. I help my guildies in tough quests and missions. I've captured every elite for my primary and my secondary. I have 1.97 million exp and 29 unused skill points. It's getting so I've had to change my secondary a couple of times just to use up skill points. I've explored as much uncharted territory as I could. I've been through the UW and FoW countless times (I'm still working on finishing ALL the quests, though). The only thing I haven't mastered is PvP which is a different game entirely. HoH is foreign to me.
I gather money because it's fun and because I can. I used funds to get a guild hall to get good equipment for guildies that deserve but can't afford it. And if I can help others do the same then that's even better.
Please think twice before you use the word "stupid." It's just a game.

Hi, questions.
1. When is the best time to sell raw materials and where?
So far I am farming raw materials as per the instuctions at the beginning of the thread. I am falling upon lots of steel and linen etc... It's great. I just want to know where to sell it all to make the most profit.
2. Also, what do I do with all my minor and major runes (and some superiors) that are worth only 120 gold and sell for 25 at the rune trader. I can't get anyone to buy this, no one buys minors anymore.
3. Where is the best place to farm for raw materials i.e produces the most bolts of X per salvage.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
BTW: I farm with my R/N20 trapper, all 4 traps and energizing + serpents quickness. He can do riversides in around 7-10 minutes.

If I had to guess, I don't think "raw materials" could make you a millionair. Honestly. It's just a waste of time and won't give you much cash.
Dbeck002
So if I find 5 steel in 30 minutes which is what im averaging.
2000 gold per hour isnt bad.
Thats not including all the linen and silk I find too.
I dont understand how you came to this conclusion, you should try farming raw materials.

Can someone answer my questions please
EternalTempest
Converting Wood Planks -> Parchment, then sell them to the materials trader nets you some good profit and considering how much stuff converts to wood with the normal salvage kits.
Arvais
On just farming runs in gold drops and material salvage i can average about 7k in an hour, that isn't counting runes or gold/purple weapons i'll go back and sell later, that is only from the coins and salvaged raw materials. So in yes, you can make good money off raw materials and they don't take up much space saving them up if you keep some salvage kits on you.

2. I just sell off my runes to the trader for whatever I get. I don't waste time bartering with people.
3. That's a trade secret - lol. Areas with heavy weapons and armor drops are good for metals. Undead are a good source for cloth. I'll leave it at that.
Dbeck002
One more thing, wheres the best place to farm white mantle.
Preferrably non ranged, melee white mantles. I looked at a lot of places and most groups are 2 justiciars and one sycophant or ritualist which = bad for a trapper. I like mantles because they yield the best cloth and iron.

Yeah... for me, the best way of making money is sheer patience and knowledge. Time is definetly money, if you're still trying to spend hours ripping off newbs with runes you're trying to sell for 1k that cost 100, you have to ask yourself... is 900 gold every other hour worth it? Salvaging is a patient process, the best way I find is just making other rare materials with normal supplies that you can either find or buy, and just keep them in the inventory until you see a person who needs them. Spam advertising is never neccesary, saying the same thing 5x won't make a person want it anymore. I've just farmed random things that drop white armors and after hours of it, i have over 100 steel ingots. even if i sold them for about 200ish each, that'll still result in 20k. That more than pays off the expert salvage kits i had to buy, not to mention the other materials i've found. Also, always check the market for good deals... this does, of course, require alot of knowledge about the pricing market.
If you don't know what an expensive and cheap price is between a max damage + while enchanted storm bow, then you obviously can't make money off of it. I once bought a purple fellblade with max damage +12% while hp is above 50% for only 10k. I didn't advertise for it, i just noticed a guy selling it and when I saw what he was asking for, I knew it was a good deal, so i bought it and spend about 15 minutes around lions arch and was able to resell it for a decent 55k. 45k profit requiring no extreme grinding or time.

The answer is - there is no single "uber farming source."
That's actually the nice thing about farming for raw materials.
If you're a monk you can farm undead.
If you're a warrior you can go after the big beasts.
etc.
You get the idea.
The secret is that there is no secret, young padawan.

Yes master.
But which targets yield the most raw materials is what I'm asking.
7+ of cloth, iron, tanned, wood etc...
I know giants boots give decent produce (carrots, lettuce) but there has to be something that yields more, giants are too easy to kill with a trapper.

i am impressed with you xui ling so you recomend salvaging materials and the fissure run, is it possible to farm the giants that travel in mobs of 7+ north of camp rorik in the deldrimor mountains or would u have to dual farm that they are lvl 24 maybe even trio farm that?

Borealis
I've got 4 different places I farm personally, 3 have been talked about on the forums and one spot where I can farm jade armors and jade bows.
I also enjoy farming, who's to say how another should play the game. If you're logged into the game, you're playing it....regardless of what you're doing.

Would you care to share these farming spots and what characters you use to farm each spot Borealis? I think it would be very helpful for all of us if we shared our farming spots.
Personally, I farm thirsty river, Elonas Reach(rarely anymore), The area north of port sledge with the mobs of grawl, and of course fissure and UW.

Bullshit.
1. As mentioned, you can get 2P/hour from farmirng rare materials.
2. Expert salvage cost 400G.
3. Unsalvaged items sell for at last 200% more than common materials (not including tools costs!)
4. 250 cloth is mere 750G.
Unless you have a bot that did that 500-1000 hours of farming for you, what you say is an absolute lie. Assuming you're getting lucky with rare materials, it would take ~550 hours of constant, not interrupted farming to get that cash. If you farm common materials, buahahaha! I won't even comment.
For curious: real cash *is* in trading. DF runs, Trade, HoH. That's a way to get rich.

That's actually the nice thing about farming for raw materials. If you're a monk you can farm undead. If you're a warrior you can go after the big beasts. etc. You get the idea. The secret is that there is no secret, young padawan. |
My only thoughts:
* You win in HoH and gain sigils and sell them
* You're botting
* Buying cash for real money
* Everything that does not concern "raw materials"
Sorry but you can't trick me with your raw materials.

It's just his excuse for not telling you. According to what he said; he's done EVERYTHING in this game except winning HoH. If you found a PERFECT farming spot with your character and it's only YOU who know it, would you tell it to someone else? Hell no. This thread does not belong in this forumsection. This is just a show-off thread.

Sholtar, who ever said I play the game "just for the sake of fake money"? I already mentioned what I do with the money and that I play other aspects of the game as well. But even if someone was only out to make money that's their business and there's nothing wrong with that. How is that different from someone wanting to pay 60k for armor who's stats are identical to 1.5k armor just because it looks "cool"?
Am I saying you aren't entitled to your opinion? Certainly not. You might feel it's "stupid" for you to do the same, but that has no relevance to anyone other than yourself. It is naive to think it applies to anyone else.
Farming isn't a repetitive experience. The challenge of farming is that it takes a lot of time and effort to balance a build to be successful at it. Specialized building for solo farming is actually a whole different dimension of the game - just ask anyone who does it. To solo farm you have to learn the various AIs in the game to a greater degree than with group quests - even fissure runs. Learning how to negotiate an Arcanist's hexes while fighting off Lvl 24 griffins or taking on 4 hill giants and 2 imps is a challenge.
Do you think I do that? You also assume a farmer abandons a mission when they get a nice drop. That's not what farmers do - that's what inconsiderate players do. And FYI - when I'm in the FoW or UW I go for quests and, as a rule, I never leave prematurely - even when 4 or 5 people have already abandoned the team because of high DP. I don't go for "smite runs" - I don't believe in them.
This is how you describe "Fissure Runs:"
Well, I might argue that going for the "easy experience" rather than a challenging task is rather pointless. But I accept that what you find to be "fun" may be different than what I find. But I'd never characterize your interests as "stupid."
Furthermore, if negotiating prices and earning money from the raw materials market wasn't a part of the game then there wouldn't be a supply/demand price structure or a trade channel. All prices would be fixed. Making money and bartering IS a part of the game. Everyone seems to recognize that but you.
I'm not going to convince you to emulate me. And I never said you aren't entitled to your opinion. I merely voiced my opinion in response. I rest my case.

When I do a fissure run and get a ruby, I don't say, "Mission accomplished," I say, "Hey that's cool, let's get on with the quest." |

Anyone too shortsighted and dumb to try something before they start hostile accusations of botting or eBay doesn't really deserve a response. If you haven't figured it out, I'm trying to be helpful, you numbskulls.
