1.) Check your spending. Don’t buy the biggest/best up front. Wait until you have some resources before you buy that new item or upgrade. As a rule, when starting out – try not to make purchases that leave you with less than 1k in the bank. Because, as in life, you need money (salvage kits, etc) to make money. 2.) Farm for raw materials. This isn’t the sexiest way to fortune and fame but it’s the most foolproof and reliable. Keep your wood, granite, iron etc on you at all times. When a “lousy” item drops for you – apply your salvage to it and collect the raw materials. This saves you space in storage as well as builds your resources. On a raw material run I’ll leave with 4-5 expert salvage kits and 2 ID kits. Some people like to keep their materials in storage – that’s a mistake because it forces you to keep transferring between runs (… or quests). Monitor the buy prices at the materials merchant – and when it’s high just sell it all to them for a big chunk of profit. And be patient. I’m sitting on nearly 1000 iron that I’ll unload when the price is right. It really works. I can make 2-4k plus in raw materials alone on a good run. That’s not including rare items and gold I might find along the way. 3.) Gold or purple weapons etc. Some people walk around Lion’s Arch or Ascalon all day trying to sell their gold max-uber bow. In my opinion, time is money. If the weapon is fantastic – I won’t spend more than a few minutes on the trade chat. After which I’ll put it in storage and go back to farming. And I’ll sell for a fair price, if at all. You can waste a lot of time trying to get that extra 10k or 15k from your precious item. But, in the long run, you’ll find that 10k is nothing – really. 4.) Selling raw materials to players. I might sell some iron or wood to someone who is posting WTB on the trade chat. But I’ll sell for a price that’s comparable to a good day for me at the materials trader. If they try to haggle I just walk away. I’m in no hurry to sell. As in life, learn to walk away from any bad deal. 5.) Selling collector items is a nice way to turn a profit. I used to sell collector’s weapons and make good money. But nowadays I’m tired of that scene. I just don’t like to haggle anymore. Now I just sell the seeds, jawbones or wings to other people who DO like to sell collector’s items. I maintain a list of contacts who will always buy them from me – and we have a fixed price. Otherwise I’ll just give them up to the merchant for a little change. 6.) If you haven’t noticed – this method is all about preserving time (no haggling – just farming) and space (salvage almost everything you find). When you have the money – use expert salvage kits for most everything – that way you find yourself salvaging out steel, linen, leather and silk. My best salvage was a “highly salvageable” sword that yielded 10 steel! 7.) Farm alone. Finding the right build takes some time – but the effort is worth it. Even if you can’t farm alone you can do the same salvaging on normal quests – just takes a little longer. Anyway that’s what I do. There are some finer points as well, but you can figure them out yourself if you’re creative and observant. When reached 400k it was no problem for me to get that new armor, equipment or rune (only if I needed it). Now I have 3 different sets of 15k armor - I even experimented with colors mixing blacks with other colors, etc. My point is, it's fun to be able to afford to do that stuff. My goal is to reach millionaire status in a couple of days. Good luck and happy farming. |

best way to make cash, play game from start to finnish without farming or any of that lazy stuff... it made me a good 30K in 3-4 weeks...

30k is nice, that can be easily earned.
But when I want to buy the 15k armors, I would need at least 60k per set.
So I have to resolve to certain different methods.. >.<
Tried farming, couldnt get a right build. Either that or farm spot nerfed.

The 15k armor was intended to be a fancy money sink, not a reason to farm, so it has the same AL than the 1.5k armor.
If someday, by normal play, I get 80k AND the materials, or the money to buy them, then I would buy that armor. Farm to buy it? NEVER

i totaly agree with the HoH idea, it may not be as easy as killing a few demons, but at least you can test your skill

you might argree with the HoH thing and all but that is not easy to win some ppl are gifted to win that and some arnt. And 30k a month is bad in a month i made about 250k and that is just over time and spending. farming is the key of making money today i have played the game for 3 hours and made about 190k so playing the game then betting it and only making 30k really isnt enough for all the stuff u need.

Don't mean to be sacarstic, but may I know why you guys need so many golds ?
I am only at lvl11, I might now know the usefulness of getting rich.
I have more than 100 cloth, woods and Hide. May I know what to do with them ? I never find I need more than 400 golds. Like I said, maybe I am too low level to realise that.
Please help.
Thanks.

Ok, any of you notice that more dyes drop in Old Ascalon? Today i got 4 purple dyes,2 red dyes, 5 silver dyes, 1 black dye, 2 yellow dyes, 1 blue dye... all in Old Ascalon. Its aswome... but kindof odd also. The black was in catacombs, silvers all were on the way to Raniks Fort thing, and the others i found in wizards folly. Why are there better dye drops in Old Ascalon when theres hardly ever any good drops in Searing? I mean, after I finished Old Ascalon and went to the destroyed one, I've so far only gotten 2 silver dyes, 3 purps, 4 blue, 2 red, and 1 yellow throughout the destroyed Ascalon to where I am now (Just finished Ember Light Camp but have been trying to get to the Granite Citadel, at Copperhammer right now... god its so hard getting there).
Well, more dye's the better
Also its very easy to kill enemies in Old Ascalon with the character I'm using... (Ele/Mo 7) I just don't die

This is just a random thing that I'm gonna say... but...
Did any of you notice something fishy yesterday with the dye trader?
The black dye could be bought for nearly 10k, but to sell it to the trader you could only get 1g... anyone know the deal about that?
Its very weird.

Hmmm... My guess would be that no one was buying and a lot of people dumped their black dye on the trader when the price was good? Hold out, the price will go up. I bet you could easily sell it in game for 8k to another player.

Oh, and I just made 80k profit of trading single item.

Theres one thing that I don't get about the Rune Trader... she doesn't sell superior vigor runes... I doubt that its because so many people are buying because I havn't seen a superior vigor rune being sold for like 2 weeks. Think it could maybe be a glitch from the new trading sequence when you sell or buy from a merchant or trader?
Also, they should send out a new update where like the price for dye or runes couldn't go below a certain amount of gold if you were to sell it... because 1g is just so wrong to sell a black dye to the trader, yet it cost 10k to buy. So there's no chance that you'll sell it for 8k because people know that the price will go down... but even if it does, the 1g to sell would probably be the same. Black dye should be 1.5k gold at least to sell it to the trader. Silver dye was worth 1g today to sell it.
It's so hard to believe that a purp or green or orange or yellow dye could get you more gold than a black dye could. Its really messed up.
They are starting to make the game horrable... almost as if they want to make it terrible so that when the expansion pack comes out more people will want it because they would hope that it would make everything better...
Also, for the expansion pack, it would be aswome if they added a new class like an Assassin who would do like martial arts and would be able to sneak around enemies easier than any other class could, and maybe could detect invisible guys (first they would have to make some... like a Ghost or something for necromancer that could be seen but it would be extremely hard to see it, it would be a super faint shimmer of the air, but the assassin would be able to see it clear as day or something. Or maybe an Assassin could have a cool elite skill that has a 10% chance to work and cost 10 energy and if it worked, the assassin would jump on the shoulders of the enemy and twist their head around sharply... I don't know, jsut a thought.... but admit it! it would be cool to be an assassin!!!

I am a ranger/warrior and have found that making money just seems to be a case of patience. I totally agree with Xue Li Yiangs methods and after reading this post, decided to give it a try. The only difference I had was taking about 4/5 standard salvage kits and 1/2 expert salvage kits (mainly due to having limited funds to start with!). Just selling some tanned hide squares and other common crafting materials after a while netted me about 2k!
As yet, I am still working through the PvE game, so am not dedicated to making money. I think that perseverance and patience will get you everywhere in this game. As I am doing the missions, I just salvage any weapons which are standard drops giving the essential materials for selling at a later date.
I have so far found the key to not spending all your money is to visit the Xunlai agent whenever you have built up a fair amount of cash and just deposit most of it so there is no temptation to spend it! (it also means that you aren't constantly looking at your gold supply in your inventory......."a watched pot never boils etc, etc!")
So, basically, despite all the nerf posts I think that it is fairly easy to make your money and truly enjoy the game as long as you have patience.
And one more point...as long as you choose the best skills and weapons for the ranger profession, you will find that Rangers are a formidable force in this game.

In fact, keeping a personal rule not to make withdrawals - only deposits always keeps the cash flow positive. (Not to say I never broke that rule - but I did so with a degree of anguish, hesitation and guilt lol).

OK this is my first post and im new here but...
Since i heard about farming i switched from just selling all of my drops to the trader to salvaging them and waiting for the prices to rocket. If you have the time and the patience then farming is probally for you however if ytou dont then i'd reccomend just selling everything u pick up unless its maxed or you can salvage a major rune from it.

With material trading, I've experienced that these are the most expensive common materials: tanned hides, cloth and iron ingots as they can go for more than 100 for 10pcs. The rest of the common crafting materials (bones, wood planks, shells) I rarely see go for more than 30 per 10pc.
What I like about salvaging for materials is that you have your own materials that you can use for your armor. You don't need to buy from the material traders or from other players. And when you consider the high price of buying materials, well that's just a lot of money you can save if you actually salvage them yourself.
I remember selling more than 200 pieces of wood planks to a single player at about 10g each. Sure that may not be a lot of gold, but in the end, that's worth more gold than selling the bows I salvaged to merchants.
Another benefit I get from salvaging materials is that I am able to pick more loot while I'm farming/exploring. Whenever I see an item that is not so interesting, I just salvage it then the materials will just stack, leaving me more space for better/higher priced items.

It has been mentioned in this thread that there are different ways of accumulating wealth:
1) salvaging and material trading
2) winning in HoH and selling sigils
3) casually playing the game
4) selling high priced items
5) being frugal and not buying the best items up front
6) not buying the 15k armors
7) others I may have failed to notice
With all these methods, I think the most important is for us to pick what suits our time and play style the best and which one enhances our game experience the most.

the luck is in the drops, ive gotten 2 crystalline swords in the same weekend, that was around the 600 hour marker for me. another example would be that today i found a 4:1 vampiric string, a +5 insightful head, a black dye and a good 5k in just gold. i also just about doubled my crafting materials. where as yesterday i diddnt get crap, i had bad runs, and diddnt even get much crafting materials.
im sure if i took the time to use the trade channel for more of my items i would have alot more money too. last weekend i had 0 ecto and 60k, today i have 15 ecto and still have 30k. if you only have one farming spot you wont make much either (unless its like riverside before the nerfs or the divinity barrel) off the top of my head i have 2 spots the farm by killing, and 2 spots to farm chests and such. i get crafting items and a few good drops from enemies, but i get amazing drops from the chests. (2 crystalline, multiple rare items with super upgrades and the occasional item ill put in the trade channel)
another thing abtou farming is that you need to be able to find a new area. why? because your spot isnt gonna be there forever. just a few minutes ago i found that one of my favorite spots to kill in has been exposed and will either have an enemy setup change (add mesmers, necros or ranges to counter smiting) or a flat out nerf. so when i get tired of farming (which i do wuite often) but cant go the the UW or Fissure, i run around on my warrior. ive ran though just about everywhere up the the fire islands. if i can easily run through the area, then i will take my smiting build to it and see how it goes. from this i have found many possible spots, a very good area for silk and fur as well as a few other good things. so if you wanna be able to get your fisssure armor quick, then asking others for farming tips wont get you enough money.

If you've got any Black Dye, sell it now, the trader is asking 15+k for it so it will probably sell to a player for 8+. Act fast before the dev's notice.
