To prevent this in the future Anet should offer us an upgrade offer for those who buy the standard addition.
Pay another $20 on their site to upgrade and email us the key.

unless that CE doesn't have any physical items... then it shouldn't be $20

It does have physical items. Shipping is no big deal as long as I get the key in a timely manner its worth the extra $$.

They should make a different kind of factions's collectors edition...like for the phrophesies campaign, they should have a version with the aura and special music, but nothing else. Then we would be able to get keys online, and NOT wait for shipping...(...who needs a logitech headset and artwork you can get for a dollar?)

A simple way of compensating those who have to buy a standard edition to tide them over for pre orders is to gift them 4 extra slots to anyone who's account shows a SE+CE key
EndoftheSyringe
I think above all the worst thing that is happening here is NOT that NCsoft is such a shitty company, but that they are dragging ArenaNet down with them! Anet is going to have a very bad reputation with people who don't do their research because they naturally assume it's the developer's (since it's the "big" name connected with the game) fault.
As for it not being worth the trouble, I don't really care. I have other games to hold me over, and if I don't end up getting CE when it was delayed to (you know, the whole week-delay deal), well, June 30th is my Birthday!

These people making excuses for NCSoft make me sick....
We paid ahead of time pre ordered CE edition and were told we would be playing it ahead of time and have all the goodies also. We have a right to be mad about this PR nightmare ... you probably never buy the CE edition so what are you even caring for? Seriously, telling people they dont have a right to be mad about something a retail company was selling and now delayed until god knows when and on top of it says to buy the regular edition then buy the CE edition when it comes out ...is just plain nutz.
I seriously think you people saying not to be mad are just rubbing it in our faces ... so step off and let us vent.
NCSoft needs to make this right or they have just delivered a major deathblow to Guild Wars PC game ... I plunked my hard earned cash down months ago for this CE edition and was promised I would have it in my hands on the 28th april I and everyone else that got screwed have a right to be mad and bitch about it.
Yeah sure humans make mistakes, but in a big business like Guild Wars has become they just shot themselves in the foot ...

That having been said, it's more the principle of the issue: that we've invested more money into the game we love--and, because of that, we've accidentally been penalized for it.
No, three days isn't that much.
However, when those three days involve a new game that -everyone else- is playing but you, and you could be playing it too if it weren't for some stupid technicality..
Then, yes, it's a big pain in the ass.

3 days? 30th of June? Isn't it the 27th of April? That's over a month we may have to wait.
I don't know if i've been effected (gameseek.co.uk).
I haven't recieved an email, but i've mailed there support enquiring.

I'm kinda ticked as well. I work in a game store. We got normal in yesterday. No CE yet. I've not been playing on GW for a month and was looking forward to coming back for the factions release. If I gotta wait til end of June I gotta find something else to do... *sigh*

Actually however many days or weeks, it is all relative. 3 days to someone might not be the same as 3 days to another. Just like some people are ignorant to claim that $10 is not a lot of money; it's not a lot of money to themself, but may be a chunk of change to another. These "arguments" fail.

Mr.Deflok
I was quite annoyed too but seeing as how there's not a thing I can do about it I don't want to get to caught up on it.
So I changed my pre-order over to a standard edition, BUT, I still want the CE for the extras.
What I want to know is if I install Factions Standard will I be able to install the CE later and still be able to use my account that I create with the standard copy with a CE CD-Key?
Yes, I plan on buying both copies, there's no way I'm going to play catch up with my guild a week (or however long it's gonna be).

Master Tantrum
Hi all,
I got this email today about Factions from GamePlay. It does not mention a June release date....fingers crossed.
Thank you for ordering Guild Wars Factions Collectors Edition.
Unfortunately the stock for this item has been delayed into the UK. We are
hoping to receive stock some time on 27/04/06 and will try our best to despatch
all pre orders on the same day.
NCSoft have released the following statements regarding the situation:
"There have been some shipping and distribution delays on the Factions
Collector's Edition. We're working around-the-clock to shorten these delays, and
to have the CE on shelves wherever possible on the 28th. This is not a global
delay as some of you have been told, but we will keep you informed as the
situation changes. We can confirm that the Factions Standard Edition will be
available worldwide on the 28th"
"All customers who have already obtained a Guild Wars Factions pre-order key,
and have activated it via Guild Wars by 7:59am UK time / 8:59am Central European
time on Saturday, April 29th, will now be able to play Guild Wars Factions until
7:59am UK time / 8:59am Central European time on Tuesday, May 2nd
Any characters these customers create during the Extended Head Start Event
(ending Tuesday, May 2nd) will be stored - but will not be playable - until
Monday, May 8th.
During this 10 days 'grace period', if a customer adds a Guild Wars Factions
retail key (either Standard or Collector's Edition) to their account, they will
be able to resume playing with those characters.
The 10 days 'grace period' applies only to customers who already own the
original Guild Wars (Prophecies), who have pre-ordered Guild Wars Factions and
have activated their Guild Wars Factions pre-order key."

This is highly annoying.
EB-games told me today on the phone, that the CE will be delayed only by one day (Germany), so it's supposed to be in stores on the 29th
IDGAF that much about the box itself. It's for collecting and not using every day.
What I care a lot about is the key that will allow me to play.
So I don't understand why NCsoft doesn't come up with a temporary key that allows everybody to play e.g. 1 week, regardless if that person bought the CE or no.
If, by that time, the key isn't "upgraded" by the "real" CE-key, it simply expires.
Does that sounds like a valid solution? It does for me, so here is what I expect NCsoft (or whoever responsible for the mess-up) to do:
Issue temporary CE-keys to everybody who wants one, by letting them fill out a simple form on the web-page which mails the key to you.
The lame excuse on the web-page (I just read it) is just ridiculous, and I don't believe it for one second. "Underestimated the demand for CEs"???
That's why people pre-ordered, right? To estimate the demands, or am I too naive to understand that?
Anyway, get those temporary CE-keys running, and people will stop complaining.

[email protected] to me More options 15:00 (1½ hours ago) Dear Guild Warrior, Thank you for ordering the Guild Wars Factions Collector's Edition from the GAME website. I'm sorry to inform you that due to circumstances beyond our control we are still awaiting delivery of this title from NCSoft. In response the publisher has made provision to allow you to take advantage of the headstart and two additional character slots until your boxed copy of the game arrives (which we hope will be tomorrow). Please see the following instructions from NCSoft below: ------------------------------------------------- All customers who have already obtained a Guild Wars Factions preorder key, and have activated it via Guild Wars by 7:59am UK time / 8:59am Central European time on Saturday, April 29th, will now be able to play Guild Wars Factions until 7:59am UK time / 8:59am Central European time on Tuesday, May 2nd. (This timing has been specially extended to cover Bank Holiday Monday.) If you have the original Guild Wars and have preordered the Factions Collector's Edition: You are now able to play Guild Wars Factions as part of the Extended Head Start event until May 2nd using the preorder key code you would have received. If you don't have the original Guild Wars but wanted to play in the Extended Head Start: This is not possible, unless you activate the preorder key before 8am UK time on Saturday, April 29th. Clarification on the 10 day 'grace period': This applies only to customers who already own the original Guild Wars, who have preordered Guild Wars Factions and have activated their Guild Wars Factions preorder key. Any characters these customers create during the Extended Head Start Event (ending Tuesday, May 2nd) will be stored - but will not be playable - until Monday, May 8th. During this 10 day 'grace period', if a customer adds a Guild Wars Factions retail key (either Standard or Collector's Edition) to their account, they will be able to resume playing with those characters. Example: You own Guild Wars Prophecies and really want the Guild Wars Factions Collector's Edition, but you are worried about when stock will become available. You have already played during the Extended Head Start Event and doesn't want to lose those characters. Any characters created by this customer during the Extended Head Start Event will be stored on the Guild Wars servers until Monday, May 8th. As long as they purchase a copy of Guild Wars Faction and apply its retail key to their account before then, you will be able to resume playing with those characters. ------------------------------------------------- We hope the above is clear. Everyone should by now have received their Preorder Box containing the necessary codes – if not please contact our Customer Services Department on 0871 200 1221. Please note that if you would like to purchase the Guild Wars Factions Official Strategy Guide, you can save 5.00 GBP off the retail price by using the code "GWFGUIDE" in the voucher redemption box to the right of the checkout. http://shop.game.net/ViewProduct.aspx?cat=2&mid=328582 Offer ends 25.05.06. Voucher will not work on any other product. Kind regards, Jonny Austin GAME.NET |

I think it's just a miss-sending on their part, because theyve taken the money off my card as well and they only do that when they dispatch a game. So hopefully, I have nothing to worry about, (preorder during early march FTW!)

I had the same three emails as you today from game.net. So I called customer support to find out what was going on. The guy I spoke to reassured me the item had been dispatched and that I should recieve it either tommorow or saturday. He said the third email was probably just sent out to all those that had preordered by mistake.
Good luck anyways, see you all in cantha (eventually).

I'm comptemplating 2 things, either wait or just purchase the regular edition and save more money and the wait.... I'm leaning towards getting the regular game, sure I miss out on the collectors edition 2 times in a row now, however the delay is somewhat annoying to me(like I might miss a chance to get that fubar weapon like in the 1st 2 weeks of GW) and really, all we really get is what? a special dance and some stickers w/ a fancy book :\ I'll go pick up the factions guide now, I must say, cantha is even worse than seared ascalon w/ its maze like environment :P

Don't cancel, think of how GW is designed and you will be able to pick up where you left off without a hitch. Also think of all the update's and update "glitches" you will avoid (aka log in and get 1 update and be good to go) and it does have a lot of goodies.

Your way COULD cause hassles. You're correct in that you won't get the full refund back. You would have to tell them about the pre-order, show proof of $10 being taken off the product, and then have it taken off the CE version.
It's easier to just sit on the pre-order recept until you've made a decision about which version you want to get.
If you decide to keep the regular version, you have 30 days to go back with the pre-order receipt and have it applied to the game. It would be done in a price match format and you would get $10 credited back to you, through whatever methods you used to buy the game.

MY STORE opens @ 10am on Friday. I don't know if this is global or local. I want to say global, but there may be different markets out there.
.
We JUST got in the shipment of products. From what I'm seeing, there are SOME stores out there that do not have the regular version of Factions. These stores are rare and I bet are really really small stores out in the middle of nowhere.
The t-shirt is one size fits all.. because they're all XL's

I AGAIN RECOMMEND YOU GET THERE WHEN THE STORE OPENS! Especially if you want a t-shirt.
There's enough copies of the game, but I don't know how long it's going to last.
.
The SKU # for the regular version is 7689209 and the SKU # for the CE version is 7745434.
No new information on the CE. Still checking every day.

Like said there will be a grace period of 10 days to activate the account again with the retail key.
BUT.... Will the character that is created in cantha during the event be stored until u delete or activate it? Or will it simply be removed?
In my case i still have two slots open of the temporarily six u get at the moment.
I rlly hope i didn't do everything for nothing today
sigh...

I ordered my copy from Best Buy online on 8 MAR and did not get jack crap in the mail or anything. I have received updates on the delivery via email but nothing more. I contacted NCsoft and let them know..."they dont speak for the retailer's policies and blah, blah, blah" So, I contacted Best Buy and spoke to some "outsourced" person who spoke english with a distinct accent (**cough, next to pakistan**choke, cough**) who additionally had no response to my complaint but did note what took place and gave me a ref # so that the "research department" who will be in contact with me in 2-3 business days will use to inform me that "I SHOULD HAVE JUST GOT IT FROM SOME OTHER JACKASS RETAILER IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!"
For those who wasted money and expectations on the Day of Tengu...Blame it on Best Buy!!! It's all about the oil I tell you!!! What an f ing jip to consumers!!! Nice advertising and business deal....<unamed .com website>
