I would only agree with this if it only showed zones that you have gotten 100% complete in, such as putting a little star by the name of the zone, whilst that still might take the difficulty away, I think it should stay the way it is, as it's meant to be challenging.

I started the game late ,no arena ,i'm old ,my eyes too
How about a NPC like a "Mystic" or "Seer" with this dialogue box
"Hello Young Traveller ,I see you are looking for the Grand Master Title" ,only few travellers have reach this title without my help .I could help you ,give me xxx golds and i will tell you where to search for the title !"
The the Npc tell you an incomplete map region .
You explore then you go back to npc :
The next help will cost more ,and if you have complete the region he tell you ,you have the next one where to search ,however ,the npc will continue to give the same ... etc ..
Sorry for my bad english then ,i hope you will understand .

I have an Idea,
Why not just buy the title for RW money in the game store, when you pop in to buy the next "uber" weapon and some more gold.

How about the partial solution: marking as gold (100% discoverd) or displaying the percentage, but not for single location. Instead display it for area (like Southern Shilverpeaks, or Crystal Desert).

I put forth a lot of effort to get both grandmaster titles, and the only advice I can give you is to explore 100% that you can while you're in a given area before moving on.

it would be great if it would just say like: nearly explored, totally explored and so on. not full %.

I have 98.6% Cantha, I've been in most places and tried to reexplore them.
I can't get what I'm lacking.
It looks like I'm missing an entire area!
But I'm not. With this, I could neter each area an know it that is the place I'm missing.

As much as I'd love to see something like this in the game to ease the many hours of running around the map looking for any missed places, I'm going to have to say....
/notsigned.
It would make cartography too easy. Sure, fighting huge groups of enemies and clearing the entire area is difficult enough, but mapping itself has nothing to do with it. Think about historical explorers for a moment... do you think they had a neat little percentage telling them what they missed? No. I like the fact that the same thing is repeating in the game. It's a wonderful challenge to find that last 0.1% without any extra help and gives you a better feeling of accomplishment.

i enjoyed the scraping and running around forever looking for that last bit of exploration. I finnaly got 100% of tyria just the other day ago, after sitting on 98% for weeks. and im proud of the title because you dont see as many people that have it, compared to the sunspear titles, protector, ect. ect.
what i guess im trying to say, is that i wouldnt have felt like i earned it if i had a system like that to show me where that last .1% was that i was missing for 4 hours.

The countless 100s of people who have 100% on the maps are evidence that we dont need this. It just takes time, effort and determination and you can do it.
I realise its frustrating and annoying and at times you want to murder someone. But if you stick at it and you use the countless other methods available to you (including comparing maps), it can be done.
Adding %s for each area makes it an extremely easy title to achieve and it devalues it. It removes the sense of accomplishment you get once you reach 100%.
Most people already think cartograher is an easy title to achieve. We dont need to give them even more reason to think that.
The exploration title is fine. Its perfect even. Its intended to be a challenge, and not just a case of ticking off areas as you go.

This makes it way too easy to get the title and devalues the title for people who already have the titles.
It is definitely possible to get it w/o this. I have all 3 gmc's. It just takes hard work and dedication.

Adding the % system would be doing the work for you. Instead of carefully retracing steps and exploring areas to see what you've missed, it would simple tick off the sections you've completed.
That is removing a tremendious amount of work on your behalf. Exploration would end up nothing more then "yup done that bit, move on".
There would be no more "I wonder If I missed a bit there" and going back to that area, because it would tell you.
Exploration is fine as it is.
Most people who want this, just want to make getting KOABD easier. It has nothing to do with a love for exploring, or a passion for finding new areas. Its all about making it easier to gain full titles.

actually, I'd have to disagree. I've got canthan master carto, and have had it for a while. I'm pretty sure I've explored just about everything I can think of, but I'm obviously still missing quite a bit (still at 97.3% or some such). I do not want to go wallhug all of cantha all over again, just looking for those places. Nor do I want to go and alt+tab back and forth between a picutre and my mini-map for hours and hours and hours, just to detect the smallest fraction of a greyed over area. Actually, even with this idea, it'd still be a pain, you'd just have a little bit of a better idea on where to focus. Not as big a pain as it currently is, just not the complete pain it is now.
Oh, and for reference, I don't give a flying leap about KOABD.

I did that for all 3 maps... it took time, but it worked great.
Or you could just take advantage of the countless exploration threads in here and post your zoomed out map and have someone do all that for you.
This is why it annoys me when people winge about exploring and ask for %s in areas. We've all been there. It took me close to 6 months to explore Tyria, about 3 months to explore cantha about a month to explore Elona.
I know its hard and I know its time consuming.
But there are other alternatives that people simple dont use and take advantage of.
1) Countless threads in here to ask for help exploring.
2) Checking your corner map to see what looks like fog.
3) Comparing your map to a 100% map using layering and finding differences.
If you do all of that, give it a good try for a few months, and your still stuck, then I would sympathise.
But people dont even try. They explore for a few weeks, or a month, find it hard and then winge and complain about how much time it takes.
What do people expect? Its exploration!!!
I've no doubt you have tried for months, so that wasnt aimed at you. But try the methods I mentioned and it will help.

Back in November I tryed to get something going like this. Maybe we can add these /Signed/Not Signed to this beloved list.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s... p+Completion
To make things short I have 98.6% Explored. I will not spend another 30 Hours trying to rescape every edge of the map for the 3rd time. With this kind of Percentage it makes it really tough to even look at an example map to find what you missed.

I know how to do the other. See you seem to have the impression that all those that want this are lazy shiftabouts, this isn't true. I just want something that will allow me to eliminate some areas so I don't have to go through them all over again.
I don't have 10 months to go around exploring the entire game, thanks very much. I doubt most of us do. I wouldn't have a problem spending a few weeks doing it, but months is rediculous. I've already taken my assassin all over cantha, scrapped as many bloody corners as I could find, but I'm still down to just a few little areas and a hint would be nice.
For reference, I've already done all of your oh-so-useful suggestions which are blatantly obvious. The only real option for me would be to go back to Shing Jea Monestary and rescrape every boundary and rehug every wall in the game and to be honest, it's not worth it. Know if I knew that I had some more work to do in Morostav Trail or Unwaking Waters, I'd go do. Re-exploring the entire frikken continent, remapping the ENTIRE thing just for that extra 2.x%...that's just not worth it.
and oh

Why is there such a rush to explore?
Why do you need it done now this instant?
The game isnt going anywhere, and your character isnt going to vanish.
Are you in a rush to get it for a reason?
ShadowbaneX
it's an inertia thing. Right now in order to actually get that last 2.x% I'm going to have to reexplore ALL of Cantha, something that I don't particularly feel like doing, something that I'll probably never do. If they make this change it'll go from all of cantha to probably just a few areas, probably half a dozen to a dozen. Something which wouldn't be easy, but it wouldn't be as tideous as restarting from scratch.
Darko_UK
This would vastly improve the PvE areas for newbies also, I don't know about you guys but years ago when I first played GW I didn't leave the Pre Sear for about 3-4 weeks because I wanted to make sure I'd been everywhere and done everything, A counter telling me how much of the catacombs I had explored would be very nice and same goes with the rest of tyria
