Factions Collector's Edition Gift 3 May 2006
Factions CE buyers, we have great news! To show our appreciation for your support and patience as you wait for your CE to arrive, we decided yesterday afternoon to create a special Collector's Edition Thank You Gift. When you activate your Factions Collector's Edition access key, you will receive an in-game gift box containing a miniature of the dragon Kuunavang! Double click the box to reveal your miniature dragon. The gift will be one per account and will function like a Birthday Miniature. That is, they will be tradable, sellable (for in-game currency only!), or exchangeable between your characters. You will find your gift on the first character you bring into the game after we are able to implement this feature. We anticipate we will have these gifts ready within the next 10 days. And don't worry – all who purchase a Collector's Edition will receive a Thank You Gift!
Looks like good things come to those who wait after all, eh?

OK Thank you GW I think I just changed my mind about my CE!

OK way to go, this was a really unexpected surprise! I wasn't to impressed when I saw what the backup dancers would look like, but I have been so jealous of the people with minipets (in a polite way that is). I was just going to get a regular factions instead - but MINI DRAGON!!!!!! YAY!!!

In case ya can't tell I feel so much better!

Nifty, although you might want to change your thread title, since these little miniatures are not technically "pets" ... I got all excited when I read the thread title

I'll wait to see some screens of what it looks like 'fore I dish out more $.

I'm assuming it's the same as prophecies here, so I would say yes. I know for a fact you can add a prophecies CE key to a regular prophecies account, I would be 99% sure Factions works the same.

That was me being too angry to post without triggering the filter. What about the people who were going to buy the CE, but then decided not to because of the delay? I didn't want to be teased for a couple of days, then have to wait a couple days, etc... Now, of course people are going to tell me I should have, that I'm not a hardcore fan because I'm impatient, but oh well.

Why doesn't A-Net allow people to buy (for like $5-$10) the dances and/or the presents? An aesthetic bonus (the dances) was cool and nothing to get upset over, but now the CE buyers also get a reward that'll allow them to get rich in the game if they chose to sell. I'm not saying I don't sympathize with them for having their games delayed, because I do, but that's a bit ridiculous.

Alright, that was my only rant. I'm over it. But, I stick with my suggestion of being able to pay $5 or so for the dances, because I saw them a couple days ago and came up with that idea.

It's not so ridiculous when you hear about how much the Birthday Miniatures are selling for.

Actually, I think alot of hardcore fans bought the regular already, not wanting to wait. You may be one of them. The casual players I think waited because they wouldn't miss a few days. I, myself, had planned on waiting till Friday and am happy to do so. If they had done this after Friday and I couldn't get the CE, that's ok..

I imagine the real hardcore players have bought the regular and will buy the CE anyways (possibly having multiple accounts)..

I like this solution. I was just commenting on the mini's the other day thinking a dragon would be neat (like maybe the bone dragon). I guess the guy that said I was a fortune teller was on to something :-) Thanks for the Dragon ANet, I look forward to it...

No, I mean they're absurdly high, too. I'm seeing Mini-Ruriks selling for upwards of 600k, a Bone Dragon selling for similar+ectos...it's all ridiculously high, haha.

Pity my oldest character isn't old enough to get their Birthday present yet.

Ah, ok. Well, that's what I meant. It's ridiculous for the CE players to get something worth that much. They can't sell the dance emote for in game money. Patience is being rewarded by something that does have monetary value in the game. Perhaps A-Net should make the new presents non-tradable, like the pre-order weapons are.

You are aware that the Birthday Miniatures aren't CE-exclusives, right? Everyone gets those. They differ from character to character, I think. But each character will receive one on that character's "birthday."

Kuunavan is to reward CE buyers for being so patient, and I think it's a nice touch. Oh, Kuunavan isn't just a regular dragon or anything. He's the bastard that killed everyone during the FPE.

Yes, I'm completely aware of that. I wasn't saying those shouldn't be tradable, because as you said, "each character will receive one on that character's "birthday." I'm saying the ones specific to the CE owners shouldn't be tradable, because it's the equivalent of rewarding players with in game money for their patience.

Edit: Of course not everybody's going to sell them, but all it takes is one for my point to be valid. The option shouldn't be there at all.

I think the birthday items are also a reward for patience for 1) not deleting the character and making a new one, and 2) staying with the game for a year even after they probably already did the content over and over.. :-) It's a good idea.

Wasn't that dragon the one that showed up at the end of the FPE? Just wondering if this pet will be 'flying' like the phoenix. That'd be pretty cool.

Agreed.

This is a really smart move on ANet's part, from both the Birthday Mini's and the CE Mini standpoint.

I think restricting any of those items to the characters would have been a bad move. The past Holiday items are testament to that. How much more staying power did the Candy Cane weapons or even the Halloween brew and such have versus the Pumpkin Crown or Santa Hats? The Candy Cane items themselves are still hot little items, because they're transferrable.

Same thing applies with the Mini's.

Those two reason may apply to you (and I'm not saying they're not valid), but they don't apply to everybody. Some people surely had no intention of playing all 6 classes in PvE. Others could've stopped playing the game for an extended period of time, waited for Factions, and when it came, they got something special. In both cases, the reward wasn't for patience. Having the new minipets be tradable presents a market in the game that the CE holders will dominate.

I used to have a Pig from presear on my warrior and he was named Bob - but to do the ranger quest completely I had to get rid of Bob to get a stalker, so after the stalker I got another pig: Wilbur... Then I had to delete my warrior so I could do some of the preview events and I miss Bob the most ;_;

So my Dragon will be named Bob and I will LUB HIM! (even if he was the draggie to nuke me at the FPE >_>)

I have a Ranger (this one here Lady Eviance) and she has a puppy named Gruller and I won't be trading him in for any other pet XD
I've had him since I got to the shiverpeaks (I was a newb and didn't cap one in pre).

(It really doesn't take much to make me happy XD)

Agentnull the only problem I have with your idea is the fact that if I want Bob on Lady Eviance that won't be possible if he is customized to whatever I make in Cantha. Since I have no intentions of trading him off I would still like to be able to have him one whichever character I want to have him on in my account and if they are customized I simply cannot do that.

That and you said yourself that some people who got their birthday presents were ones who hadn't played the game in months! However Anet messed up on shipping and orders and such and this is their way of making up for that.

So if I understand you correctly - those who really didn't stay with the game deserve whatever the rewards the mini pet holds (including selling them off) more than the loyal ones waiting on their CEs?
I am not trying to be the typical smartass but that is how you are coming across.

Not all of us were about waiting for our CEs but I was still waiting to see some things first - this just happened to be one of the things that came along first *shrugs* Besides my family STILL isn't sure when we will get our CEs (which was the reason for my pondering just getting my money back and getting a regular factions) and by golly I would like to put my Bob on my main character and tote it around.

Concidering how long some of the CE guys have had to wait, and all the delays and problems they've been having, I think it's pretty cool of A.Net to give them a special treat like that. Those things are gonna be super popular.

Anybody else thing this was an absolutely HORRIBLE idea?

Not the collector's pet part. That's cool. I mean the let's-announce-this-before-it's-out idea. Can't possibly be a financial thing because even after the collectors is out and some people decided not to buy it, this announcement would make people gobble up any leftovers quick enough. Basically ANET just announced that if you buy the collector's edition, you get 1 million gold free with your account.... even more depending on how in demand this new pet is. Now some people who would have liked to keep the pet might not even get their collectors edition if some store owners decide to keep a copy of collectors and say "you're **** outta luck we ran out". The intentions are noble, but the timing is just incredibly bad.

I don't see what all this commotion about it being tradeable is bad since the CE edition costs significantly more than regular edition. I've purchased both copies. A regular edition for 39.99 and a CE for 69.99. It's almost 2x the costs so deservingly should also get more out of it. We all know that the extra $30 is worth more than just 100k+xx ectos. But whatever the case, I'm content with the news since the buyers of CE were unfairly delayed. I had to use the copy I've purchased for family member whenever they weren't using it to experience some of the Factions world. I would prefer that the entire Factions launch be delayed so both versions are out at the same time. I still think the first CE of Guild Wars was better since I'm getting so much use out of my headphones and my glowing hands glows even in Factions...

Thanks A-Net! That relieved my anger toward the delay of CE.

I think they should have kept it a secret at least a TINY bit longer - but just the same, the guys that work at my EBgames doesnt know squat about anything at anytime so I am not too worried..... I am more worried they will sell my CE to someone without a preorder first and thusly force me to have to wait till friggen june >_<

Of course the CE costs significantly more, because of all the extra non-in game stuff. The $30 isn't for the 100k+xx ectos, it's for all that.

I am not trying to be the typical smartass but that is how you are coming across.
Those people still paid $50 for the game in the first place. How can you say they weren't loyal? Maybe they just didn't want to keep playing the same things over and over again when they could do something different? Maybe they were busy? The list of reasons people stopped playing and then started up again could go on and on, many of which have nothing to do with loyalty to the game. If they weren't loyal, they wouldn't pick the game back up and buy Factions now.

Edit: I didn't quote the part about you wanting the dragon on a specific character. I apologize. Just because something isn't tradable doesn't mean it can't be put in storage and one of your other characters can't take it out. I confirmed this by putting my assassin's boots and insightful spiritbinder (both customized for her) in storage, and then taking them out with my necro.

Dang, what a bummer! Before the delay was announced, I was completely set on the collectors edition, but when I realized if I bought the CE I'd have to go nearly a week without Factions, I bought the normal version. It's a good idea to have a reward, they just should've announced it earlier (and I would have stayed with the CE!)

i know.. but at least i can grab all the unused or unwanted games i have and trade it in to my gamestop store for credit. Than i'm going to use it for this CE (even thought i didn't preorder)
