iv got about 700 hours under my belt and about 20 of those hours have gone towards farming. (as i have only just made a 55monk) I have about 1.5-2mill. i played pvp a lot and pve. the way i get money is buying and reselling. doesnt mean you have to stay in LA d1 your whole life either :P
Vahn Roi
I have tried Buying and Reselling, but my limited knowledge of the economy as well as my frustration with in-game selling have kept me from getting rich off said practice.
I instead turn to a more simple, and boring practice - Elona Farming with my 55.
I don't have much, I spend most of my gold on fancy things, I at one point had 120k, but right now I am saving for a decent hammer, I am half way there and I currently have 29k.

I got most of my money from farming. I don't farm much these days but it helps to get to spots before A.Net nerfs them.
I used to farm the titans quest in North Kryta, but when I go back there these days the number of armour (ie runes) drops has declined in favour of crap like non-max wands/staffs/swords/offhands ..etc.

I've played the game for about 10 months, and I've already made around 2 million, not including the 5 sets of 15k I bought for my 3 chars.
The best way to make money is buying low selling high, or predicting the market's need of supply, takes pratice and talent, but I have both

Buying low and selling high seems to be the way to do it, I envy those of you who do it well.

Come on, share the wealth, you rich people
Yea, I guess I'm a millionaire myself, but I've worked hard for every gold piece. I've owned the game since September last year, and I don't think I've ever gotten a single 15>50 item, and yet I was able to accumulate quite a bit of wealth through trading mostly.

Buying low selling high is simple really, buy as low as you can (takes well chosen words, some charming and a few lies ), take it to the auction or Ventari's Sell, and sell for as high as you can :d

No not scamming. Dont cry when u cant buy the coolest looking stuff in the game. Why? CAUSE IT HAS THE SAME STATS. I dont get this who cares if they are rich, you want to be rich go find something to make money on. U can get perfect items from any crafter now in cantha and they also have nice looking skins also.
Them being rich doesnt give them anything better than other people. So why complain about it?? I will never pay 100k and ecto for anything. Why cause i dont care about skins cause only 8 people can see them. Also i dont like to spend gold on my war. and thats what all the expensive stuff is. |

Farming is a very slow way to make money. I'm not an expert on making money in guildwars, but what my little brother does, is whenever he sees a good deal on something, he'll buy it and sell it for a profit. Ofcourse, you have to know what things are selling for, but if you do it enough, you'll make plenty of money, probably save a lot of time, and not have to worry about anti-farming codes.
Former Ruling
To be honest, most people STARTED to get their riches (get their first 500k or more) off of The Trader Reset, or Farming before it was nerfed (AoE, and other various nerfs).
Then once you have good seed money like that...It isn't hard to make more money (Have Money to Make Money type thing..).
EDIT: Think about greens...When greens first came out..They were rare items. The "good" greens were in Sorrow's Furnace and you had to farm in groups, and they were sought after. So the popular ones were over 100k...Nowadays noone would THINK about greens being that much except in rare instances. This is because greens with perfect stats even are common...and solo farmable. Think...You used to pay 90k for an axe that didnt even have a fortitude mod on it - now you can pick up perfect vamp of fort and zealous of fort greens for a fraction of that.

I've been playing for 14 months on my main account and right now have 138k, but that's probably because 3 of my characters have 2 sets of 15k armor each and one has one set, and now two have the Luxon 1.5k that I bought all the Jadite for (42 total, that's at least 50k at the prices at which I bought it.)
And that's not to mention all the money I spent on previous armors and weapons for every character... only my Assassin doesn't have a green. And a lot of Greens are Cheap Perfects
I make a lot of money... I just can't hold on to it...

Yes, I still remember that trader reset last summer, ecto was at a very low price(300g or something). I happened to have 70k+ at that moment.
Guinevere Ac
milionaire here. basicly i have just 1 character and i dont waste money everywhere.
main source of money is to know the game better the the mass. buy-low resell-high, the skill to see things before they start to have effects on the economy... etc
some quick examples
- bought a storage of superior vigor around 24-25k before faction came out sure the wave of new char would have spammed the rune trader buying them... result, sold them around 35-36k after 2 weeks
- during the dragon event i invested all my cash in black dyes, pretty sure the price would have spiked once players got their masks... result 185k earned reselling dyes after a week
- farmed items when they're hot. ex kaolin domination staff. when i saw the supply was nearly 0 and some mesmers were rdy to pay 100ectos for it, i was one of the first to mass farm it i believe... just dropped 2, but i sold them realy high.
- during the old PVE event i realized that rara material traders had the same stock in cantha and tyria. alias when someone sold amber/jadeide in cantha i could buy them in tyria. spent hours and hours spamming the material trader, and i managed to buy 450 assorted amber/jade for around 200 each. profited nearly a milion on this alone
- we know chest-gold rate are way better when few ppl farm them. once factions was out i rushed almost everywhere henching coops till kurzick places... there just was NOONE in cities, i had hours with nearly 100% goldrate, dropping gothic skins everywhere.
and after 13 months my /age command says i played 1004 hours
it's not that hard to make real money, just need brain

You can make easy money
Just hang around there will be people desperate for cash that they sell shiro/rurik for less tna 100K
I sell them back at 100K +5 ectos
You can make easy 35K in one hour ,You should know where to hang out
Also many people still have prophecies or Factions
Selling stuff that is unique to one chapeter can yield quick profit

Another moneymaking tip: Don't overprice things that you sell. When E/R koosun farming was discovered i farmed a few of them and solf them for 35k each whereas others were trying to sell for upwars for 50k. I managed to farm another 3 that same day and returned to Kaineng where the same names were still spmming WTS and mine were selling like hotcakes. I don't care if people buy mine too sell at rip-off prices because its to their own detriment.
Buy low, sell high tactics work but I, personally, find it boring and ecto farming is much more exciting. In fact, I got a +15% (-10AL) fellblade req. 11 a couple of hours ago. I can sell that for around 40k and someone will try to sell it on for 50k. I'm up 40k + ectos, they're up 10k.

I'll admit, I've been very tempted to buy money on ebay on numerous occasions. Haven't done it, but I've seriously considered it a few times (like when I say how much material traders cost for your guild hall!). The thing is, with all these ebay platinum buyers going around making everything cost a damn fortune, it sometimes seems the only way to beat them is to join them.
NCSoft needs to crack down on the ebay thing.

that's why i overpayed for your kaolin... 400k for u, u were happy, 100 ectos for me 1 hour later, guess i was happy myself...
then i did the same thing buying another kaolin and farming 2 of them...
my GL bought another one at decent prices, 100k+10 if i remember correctly, but not from me for sure. the reason i asked u not to tell who bought it was because me and GL agreed not to bid in the same auction to avoid the price going higher and higher... she already bidded, i wasn't supposed to. understand? oh and as u know u've been kind enough to tell her immediatly... ty

I literally have 260 gold in storage over 3 characters.. i dont bother with farming because i get bored easily.

I have 800 hours on account I think.
I have no FoW, no 15k armor I've never bought stronger than violet item.
I have total budget of 4k.
My pve chars are necro, ranger and assassin.
I can't farm anything with those classes. I need to do alliance battles and then sell amber to pay 1 plat for skill buys. I hate how stupidly overpriced buying skills in factions is. I feel like anet is forcing me to make W or Mo to farm and I can't play casually, because even basics like basic armor and skills cost so much.

Shendaar
You don't need a Warrior nor a Monk to farm. I farm exclusively on my Ranger and Necro and I have made over 500k in the last week or two just selling greens. Just look around, plenty of things to do as a Ranger and a Necro.
Spura
I haven't thouched ranger and necro for a long time now. Played on my assassin a lot. Though it is starting to feel like trying too hard to make something work that will never work, in pve and pvp.
Raiin Maker
Money is very easy to make on this game, due to large ammounts of cash being able to be made in a single run (50k+).
It would be very easy for almost all experinced level 20 'toons' (excpecially warriors) to get 1000k in under a month, if you played enough, which most people do.
When people farm on this game, they farm to the extreem, thats why price's are soo high.

Ranger : B/P tombs, Trapper (anywhere. UW, greens in cantha, Solo IDS (as mentioned previously). Chest runs.
Necro : ANY 5 man team that goes ANYWHERE (SS/MM ftw). Duo UW. Chest Runs. Solo Oni for kicks.
Assassin : Chest runs. Duo InvinSin almost anywhere they dun shatter enchants. Chest runs.
GG.
For any of those classes : 2-5Man builds for about 99.9% of the game.

100 Ectos for a Dom Staff is a PRIME example of right place right time. There are still some of those places left in cantha. That explorer title actually has side benefits Get 3 good drops and join the 1,000,000 gold club.
Now... if you want to be insanley rich... find a max damage 15^50 req 8-10 crystalline/dwarven axe... youll have about... 1,500+ ectos in one sale.
Last but not least, and the most common problem I get with new recruits, is FARMING TAKES PATIENCE.
I show them my little spots that earn me about 100k in 2 days of easy farming (doing various runs in 3-4 different spots that day, dont over farm one area!) and they complain after the first 5 tries they only have 5k more. Go on 5 more runs and you might get something, might not, move on to a new area after a bunch of dry runs (10-15).
Buying low / selling high in trading districts is the slowest and most painful way for me to make money. Also this serves the old saying "have money to make money" which does not help new players. Farming however, is free. eg : Veras hammer. Farmed it till I had 5 of them. Sold them for 100k each in no time (back when it was "new") then saw people reselling for 100k +5ecto. I sell them for 50k now and see those people sit and sell for 75-80k. In the time they sold that one Ive probably farmed 2 more greens and a perfect mod or two. GET FARMING!

I played for 3 months, Got god knows how many 15 k sets , got 5 level 20 characters, and my warrior has fow already.
Mmm, I never used ebay , im 16 so i dont even know how to to be honest lol.
As long as you know how to play and what to do it isnt hard, But yeah farming aint worth it. Its power trading.

In case it wasn't obvious, the people who do use ebay (do people actually use ebay? or do they use IGE etc?) aren't going to all come post "hey I use ebay!!" in this thread. You'll see lots of "I don't use ebay!" in this thread though, regardless of whether it is actually true.

I made 150k just by farming vermins.. dont get ur point o.o
Franco
Yeah exactly, most of these people just dont have the patience to farm or do whatever way to get gold and then moan that people that do have gold and had the patience to farm it , use ebay.

Money isnt hard to get you just have to persistent, take for instance ive farmed all materials for my warriors fow armor an monks fow armor in under 2 months, if I didnt get those armors an sold the ectos an shards thats quite alot of money, around 2.5mil roughly. During those 2 months, i farmed about 4 hours a day then got off, oh an i was in the europe servers. Also I used the smiter + sprit bonder build which is the fastest imo. Plz dont say its hard to acquire gold...

To the OP I've found it incredibly easy to accumulate gold now that most of my equipment is set to my ideal. I just don't have anything to spend it on aside from the occasional vanity item. If you start now I can make you a millionaire within two weeks after the Nightfall release. PM me to find out how. It's completely legal, no scamming just an understanding of how the in game economy works.
Honestly I think the majority of GW millionaires made their loot legitimately. It's not about being lucky in farming it's about timing. If you notice a spike in people wanting to buy X item then you hurry up and get said item. One prime example of this is black dye. Right now you can sell it for 9-10K wait till nightfall and everyone wants black armor. The price could double easily which means people like me who are sitting on at least two sets of armor worth of black dye will make a quick 200K. Of course this is a tried and true economic practice called speculating. I could easily lose money if my prediction turns out wrong. History tells me my chances to make a killing are excellent though. This is no different than the commodities market IRL. Some people have a knack for the market others don't. I've always been good with game economics since I played D2 and EQ.
Also addressing the people who whine about prices. Those of us with millions in our accounts are the minority. How can we possibly set prices? In an economy like this one the majority sets price. The few item types that fetch high sums are luxury items. They aren't supposed to be available to the average player. I'm sure you would like a 15^50 sundering zodiac axe of fortitude req 8 but do you know how difficult those are to come by? It's a two-3 hour mission with maybe 5-6 chests, the most likely source of such a weapon, so you get very slim chances to actually get it. Ok so factoring in that it is an elite mission that I'd say 95% of the whiners don't have access to nor the ability to do plus the rarity of the stats and skin of course it costs more. Yes it is a nice skin that you pay for but look at it like this. A diamond is just a lump of crystallized carbon. Because they are rare and pretty to look at we value them. Now you wouldn't walk into a jewelry store and try to buy a diamond for the price of a lump of coal would you? They are both lumps of carbon after all. By that same token you know you're not going to be able to purchase a diamond for just a couple of bucks either. Anet put those shibby high end skins in for those of us with the ability to find them or the money to buy them not for the average joe. Deal with it. This game is about skill not equipment anyway.
