well here is what i sometimes say to my brother. GW items are much like relastate. You buy things cheapo and then re sell for big amounts of mullah. now yes this does not get you back enough more then to be satified.
most people to get that much money farm for items that are oerfectly modded (eg. 15^50, max dmg, req 8, 20/20, +30 hp) and sell it for 100k+ ecto.
and its not that hard to get more then 200k. all you have to do is farm and sell your money willl build up over time.
now remember prices are always fluctuating so.. sometimes the market is slow. also poeple that use this sites auction pay extramly insane amounts for weapons that well...arent very good. whihc also brings up an age old question - why are gold so expensive but greens with exactly the same mods are 10 times cheaper? - i mean are you going to mod the weapoin anyway? - but sometings are answered with the release of factions - (eg. the upgrade of the sundering lvl form 10/10 to 20/20)

I for one can't make more than 100k per hour, nor even close to that ^^ I farm to get rare items and to explore, or even for the hell of it, the fact that I'm alone and trying to clear is fun to me. I make money out of trades and selling items I find. 200k per hour or even 100k to me is somewhat rubbish and probly over exaggerated, but who knows, if they really can do that, more power to them, but consider this:
Lets say they play 2-3hrs a day(w/ 1 hr dedicated to farming), in 10 days thats 1mill
if all they do is farm then 4days @ 3hrs day = 1mill 200k
lets say they have been doing this for a month, potential: 9mill per month
Well, if its true then I say congratz, note that I am skeptical but I am not one to deny them of their claims. I myself only have made 5 mill total the entire year I've been playing @ 1350+ hrs(I am not a beta player, I've been playing 2 weeks after release I missed the unconditional days).
@ that rate of production, we'd have saveral ankhelus type individual walking around The most I've ever made was about 200k+ in the first hour of logging in, which was people pming me to buy stuff, so technically, I guess I too can claim to make 200k per hour

All I know is that the people who run this game said we can make more by playing the game than by farming. I call bullshit, but then again I'm not that lucky for drops.

Well, within a month I had a full stack of ecto and well on my way. At the time I started farming ecto prices were around 10k each I believe, sometime in June of last year. To me, other than buying low and selling high, this farming process is needed to generate a steady income, and even more so since there has been multiple nerfs since then. I imagine some people are lucky enough to win HoH and thus wouldn't have to farm at all, especially if they get a perfect uber weapon to sell(ie..Crystalline or Dwarven).

I remember that in the not too distant past the prices for ectos and shards were reset and I know a number of guildies bought stacks of them at 300g each. I also remember that when Tombs first came out how we all got in to get Victo's Axe/Bulwarks and sell for ridiculous amount of gold.
Also remember when SF first came out how we went in to do 5 man FA farming for all the SF greens where at one stage I got all 71 greens in storage (still plenty left atm). I also remember that we finished Factions within first 36 hours and sold the Exalted Aegis for 200k each. I also remember that we used to do a FoW run at least daily and each trip nets like 30k on average (more if you got good drops). I also remember that after 12 Urgoz kills I finally got his longbow when my friend sold his 10 days ago for 100k+85 ectos and I'm kicking myself why didn't it drop earlier?
The point here is that if you want to make money in GW, you gotta be in a good team/guild. I'm thankful that I'm.

I think alot of people make money by trading than by farming at all. It's a fact that there are unknowledgable and smart players in gw. People abuse eager or unknowledable buyers all the time to rip them off and make tons of money. People buy low and sell high, more like ripoff artists. e.g. wtb all your mini pets 20k. Sell them for 50 -60k. People sell cd keys, and accounts and they get scammed making 100k - 200k an hour. I think alot of pvpers don't even give a crap about pve. Having fow armor won't make you uber strong in the arenas just uber nice to surge, degen, spike, condition, edenial. I rather respect the hohers that give us favor, and pvers that are actually good at pvping too. Dunno what to do with my money besides give it away, buy armor, and extremely over priced weapons that have the same stats as collectors. Already gave away 200k to my guild for merchants. What else? pvp or quit the game and give away all your hard earned money.

really if u farm all day long for 1000+ hrs: u dont have anything better to do
if u buy ebay gold: ur wasting money
if u scam people: ur going to lose ur account within the the next 3-5 business days

I'm suprized this topic did'nt get deleted. I made a thread like this one a while before factions came out and it got closed for some reason. Anywaysy, back then I ran missions and was pretty rich, I had alittle less than a mil and I had all the 15k sets on all my 3 characters. And then I noticed a trend of more and more people getting 15k sets. I was like hurm, how did peoples get so rich?
At the time I was bringing a 4th character through and I noticed all this movement on the radar towards the exit of a mission town. I think the mission was the one which you had to steal the scepter and escape (being vague so no spoilers). Anyways from my past MMORPG experience I noticed the players running towards the door were Chinese players. There was a steady flow of them all running out side. I pmed them in Chinese and they responded, no they are not bots, they just don't speak english.
You know you can tell by the name, like Red Apple, Bad Young girl and other stuff like that. And I also noticed that in the main town of the desert, in the international districts that there were Chinese people selling things, this was of course before GW had a Chinese version. Anywayys yeah so yes there was an steady ebay system going on like in my original post with all these chinese farmers. Just because you do'nt see it does'nt mean they're not in the international districts or are mistaken for bots, or are farming in their own instances.
I mean look, 15k armour is the new 1.5k and FOW is kind of becoming the new 15k.

I farmed 730k in a week from flesh golems before it was nerfed. Now I look back and wonder where is all went... Amazing how money disappears, 8 months later I have nothing to show for it.

right now I have hmmm 22k or so, I only had more than 100k once, when I sold a victo's axe. I tried farming, but its sooo boring, sometimes I solo the uw forest, but that doesn't happen alot. I don't need money, I'm having fun, wich is more important than having 500k gold, imo

Getting 100K on your account is easy:
1: Start a new character.
2: Do all profession quests for Monastery credits on Shing Jea Island.
3: Exchange credits for Scroll of adventurrers insight, at the monastery quartermaster.
4: Sell the scrolls for 100G each at the merchant.
5: At that point you have about 5K and bring money to your stash.
6: Delete character and start new one. (Warriors or assassins are best for this)
Every noob like me, can make money like that. In one week I had more than 200K in my storage, untill I begun to buy stuff

In my opinion, I believe i've mastered the art of farming, but I have NEVER had an item (save for greens) that had absolutely positively perfect uber godlike stats. Take my friend for instance. He got a Gothic Axe. Very nice I say. I look closer, it's 15^50, 20/20, +30. I say "Gee, how much did it cost you to mod this?" he says "It dropped like that". BS! 100% perfect from a drop my ass...
Avarre
I've gotten only one 'perfect drop' (15^50 +30 20/20 katana). I'd have to say the majority are likely modded, but its the skin and inherent damage mod that really count.

quite alot of problems in this game are down to ebay money, due to people having bought tons of money over the web they can afford to pay as much as they like for whatever they want. which infaltes the market no end.
personally i like getting armour and having to get the materials from going out and killing.
its slow yet gratifing, but in the long run i ain't very interressted in farming yet as a person who plays pvp most of the time i find that to be able to do this i need to farm some of the time to get the lastest armour/sup vigour/whatever for pve char that does pvp.

I wish they had a "GOLD" chart on GW... mine would go something like this:
BOUGHT FOW
UP
UP
UP DIRT POOR
And so on in that fashion, untill now, when I concentrate on getting my chars throgh the game. I'm so cool, I have 3.4k to my name

I wouldnt say its that difficult to gain money in this game.....
Make a Mo/W get ran to the desert and all the missions get a friend/guildie to powerlevel you to 15 then beat all desert missions and then beat your clone and ascend and you should be level 20 then go get all the skills and cap S o J. Buy your runes and armor you will make the money back in a few hydra runs..
If I really wanted to I could make about 200k a day since I play this damn game so much but I really hate farming... The only really fun thing is UW/FoW 55/SS farming since its fun trying to clear the whole entire place.
I had 160k lastnight but went on a mass spending spree because I cant save up money:[ thats the highest I have ever earned .. it didnt take long at all just went chest running for like 20 runs got some good stuff like 15^50 chaos axes that sold for like 30k each and some good mods from hydra farming.
I dont want to admit to buying ebay money because idk if I would get banned or not :x

well tbh 1.4 million gold cap isn't that hard to achieve and those who are very experienced in the game or mmorpgs in that matter are smart enough to understand the ways to gain such funds.
I mean there are many many options. 2 months ago I made 1.2million from a world wide proph's run including vital mission points, thats 2 and half days and thats close to max money already...
other options are farming the best and most expensive greens, i.e before the factions price market became more stable - rajazins fervor (the very first lot) sold for 100k+ roughly! (i sold loads at that price)
solo farming, green farming, running, mission+bonus completion, chest runs.
It's very easy to obtain 1million if you know what to do, I was among the few, as during my first 6-7months of proph's I barely made the 100k marker, now after seeing how other people make money my funds are stable between 300-500k most times (sometimes above)
of course some ebay it , but that cant be helped... all massive game titles have some form of item sold online and usually that is the easy solution for those who don't know what to do.
it's not hard to obtain gold, you just got to know what to do and take advantage of the "hot spots" of earning gold (i.e before a price is estabilished on an item) and only during those "hot spots" is when one can actually obtain a substantial amount of gold in one period.

It is certainly not impossible to get large amounts of gold from farming. 55 Mos, solo warriors, duo smite runs yield large amounts of gold in various forms, as do typical team farms, like The Deep, Urgoz's Warren, Sorrow's Furnace, etc...
I've been through quite a lot of gold since I started playing a year ago. I spent alot of time initially desert farming with my monk, which paid off quite well. As for Factions, I made an insane amount of money on materials when it first came out, as well as on various golds I pulled from chests, especially zodiac items.
Alot of times, it's a matter of knowing what to sell and where, and for how much. And yes, there is an element of luck involved. I remember my first 100k item, way back in the day, was from the Razorstone. I've gotten a few really nice drops/chest drops, a couple Shadow Shields that were in the 250k range, a perfect storm bow that brought me 300k, and later, Kanaxi's weapons that yielded 100k+. If you notice, most of the profit is coming from the high-end missions. That's where the "money" is, in my opinion. But never underestimate the power of materials trade.

Sweatshop A: Full of farmers and farm bots, farming endlessly for gold. This yeilds items, mostly low end junk, that is than handed over to shop B. I mean really you can find 50 r8 15^50 hand axes in la 1 at any give time. Usually a monk/w in 1.5 tats
Sweatshop B: Is actually a part of the first shop, in that they take the items, not the gold, that shop A produces and turns these into gold. These are the annoying spam bots everyone complains about in all the trading districts. Again, M/W, or W/M, in the cheapest energy armor possible.
Sweatshop C: Now, occasionally, you will see a bot/trader spammer in a district with higher end items, fellblades, chaos axes, realm items, etc. These items are kept seperate from the common gold items. These are usually M/W, but often you will see a level 2 E/W or N/M in 15k armor. Don't let the armor fool you, they're a part of the same sweatshop system.
So, a million gold is being sold on ebay, and someone buys it, now they have it traded to them and want to buy some nice stuff..They head to the nearest trading district with their new fortune like a clothes horse in a mall. Instead of buying say, 15k armor, and 5 black dyes and blowing the gold on dwarven ale like normal people, he wants to buy a new weapon or two.
New guy with the 1 million gold will come to sweatshop C, unknowingly, and will buy a chaos axe off of them for whatever price is market at the time, plus markup. And then he will buy a shield, and a sword and ..blah blah..Before you know it, he is broke again. Trust me, these guys are more often than not, well over priced.
This not only prevents the money from being sunk back into the game, but it ensures that it will be recycled and resold on ebay. As I said before in my statement, pages ago. The gold is viciously cycled through the game like this. Hence, the gold shouldn't exist like it does. It should not still be in the economy.
Since money doesn't actually dissapear in real life, unless you burn it, Arena Net, had to make money burnable to support the economy from inflating. They had to create the dye and armor sinks and the ticket games, and all of this junk that makes people so sad when they realize how much money they blew on their armor and dye combination.
It doesn't really matter if the farm bots are doing the trolls and griffins non stop. As long as arena net continues to (allow, I am going to say since they seem unable to stop it) ebay gold sales, the market will get worse and worse. Without the lure of real world money, the farming shops would close down completely. The market would slowly, stabilize itself.
People need to remember however, the more ebay gold they're buying, the more expensive in game items are going to become. It is kind of sad that I will pass a character through marhans grotto and 4-5 or more people are complaining that they over spent 2-3 million dollars the week before and now need to ebay again. A sad chunk of people are proud that they ebay. They think its fun to brag that they have spent hundreds, upon thousands of real world money on ebay gold in their game history. They're honestly handicapped in fair market trading because they have no concept of how the market truly works.
If you see someone with 6-10 million dollars (claimed) and they're asking you for a price check because they really have no idea? Ebayer.
Arena net just needs to remove the crutch...

Well to be honest Ive farmed 50K off mergolyes outside the gates of kryta in proly 10-14 hours....
yes level 11 and 12 mergolyes...so I dont see why it would be hard to farm 100K off similar much higher level creatures. When I have a day off work and can devote 12 hours to non-stop playing....I dont see why it would be hard to farm 100K in a day.
Albeit when i can go to ebay and buy 100K for 20$, its not really worth my time to spend 12 hours farming, when I make that in 1 hour @ my real job. I mean seriously, when I think aobut time investment vs enjoyment, why would I sit and farm 1000K, to get all the gear id need to be able to compete in high level end game pvp when i can have it with 60$ and 10minutes waiting for some dude to login and transfer it to me?
I enjoy farming and do so for most of my cash(until i started needing 100K+ for every item i wanted that is). But when it came down to hey we need a high level <insert charachter> here for a alliance battle, you can bet Im gunna go ebay my gear cause its faster and I get to the part of the game I enjoy most.
But as I said, until the day came I acctualy NEEDED that much cash, I never touched ebay. Whether the reaosn I needed that 100K in the first place was b/c of ebay in the first place...well that sucks I guess but it doesnt change the current situation and the situation with every MMO since Asheron's Call and Evercrap Quest.
I really dont see anything wrong with ebay, yeah it sucks for kids who cant afford to buy or for people who refuse to buy (which i was an avid member of until i got a real job) but for a large protion of the community our time is our most vaulable asset and it simply makes sense to buy things from ebay vs doing it yourself. It doesnt matter what the item is gold, ecto's, wood....if it has an ingame value it then has a real world value...I mean you paid 50$ for the game in the first place right?? So why not pay another 50 to play the portions of it you want to play?

Ebay: how much does FoW armor cost?
Me: 105 ectos and shards, and 15K for every piece.
Ebay: Thanks.
Ebay: I have 200 shards
Ebay: 150 ectos
Ebay: 300k
(as if I care)
Me: You have all this cash and don't know how much FoW armor is worth?

I just bought 2 sets of 15k kurzick armor, and about 2 months ago got my monk fow, and i still have 200k left. I am proud to say i ebayed NONE of it. I got all of my money by farming 1500 candy canes and selling them for 1k each. Also, winning halls alot and selling the sigils makes a nice profit.

In all honesty, my luck has changed recently. I figure 20% of rich people are underworld/FoW dwellers, and the other 50% are rich cashed up eBay people and the rest are bot users, who were banned (then probably unbanned) in the recent sweep.
Doesn't take make to see how this could be. Just check the amount of ad's there are for Guild Wars gold, and how much they've sold (even though they usually change their ID after x amount of sales).
My luck changed when a 15^50 Storm Bow (req 12 tho) dropped in the UW for me. I won't sell it, but, it's make me a little richer. Plus recent ecto drops and COUNTER scamming the chinese farmers with their own shinanigans.
Best way to tell, person with high end items who doesn't seem to know how to play... (moderate to frequent dying in missions, odd skill choices etc...)
I'm glad my thread is so popular too! I was wondering if anyone else felt what I felt, good to see I'm not alone.
Hooray for Guild Wars!

Hurrah for me. Boguht my 7th FoW armour today and earned every single gold coin for it. Its not hard making gold. Not at all.

Well, to make the kind of coin you need for SEVEN set's of FoW armor would definately be hard, if it weren't hard, everyone would do it... and if "hard" isn't the kind of work you like to use to describe this kind of earning power, it'd be another adjective similar to "hard"... trust me...
Anyways, congratulations! 7 sets of FoW is an achievement all of it's own, if you really did earn every coin, that truely is amazing, at least to me. Full kudos.

Making millions is easy:
Firstly, Learn the prices - it's not too hard. Then, observe all ingame blabber - being alert & fast is #1 priority, people frequently sell things that you can make an easy 5-10k on. If you're good, within a week or so you will be one of the top few% of players based on wealth, but only after a few days you will be thinking to yourself "oh god, i've made 200k today...that's more than i made in my previous 6 months put together!", and this bit is cool...the more money you have, the more money you can earn, you invest more and earn more and on and on. Farming? none of the rich people farmed for their cash, but it's a good way of building up a little bit of capital to invest with, and the pass a little time in the chance you'll get a lucky drop.
This method does work, btw, i got my FoW armour (when ectos were 10k and no shards needed ) within two trades...and had plenty of change from that.
good luck getting rich and realising how pointless it was, gg.

wow, you guys have a lot of gold!
the most ive ever had was 1k, too busy buying flowers for my beloved gwen, she is so beautiful! never had an ecto/shard drop though, grawl never seem to drop those for some odd reason...
back to farming bandits to fund the flowers!
but really, gold is overrated and REALLY easy to come by... been spending left and right recently, dragos, ragos, ghial's, and still have a comfortable amount to lay back on.....
