Well... Ascalon under 10 arena in a nutshell?
unienaule
Yeah, even bone horrors can own drok losers. Level 15 (what I had, with ascalon armor) vs. level 10 is pure ownage.

If you went into Ascalon at lvl 1 you might be able to get Eviserate through faction.
One and Two
Yeah, but you wouldn't be able to use it in ascalon. PvP characters can't go to ascalon arena.
I don't understand why you would want to Pwn people in a level 10 arena. Truthfully, wow. GG, you suck.
sidenote: I played a E/N9 with blinding flash and gale...it completely owns warriors, with drok's and elites.

Sorry. I mean those with elites and drok's armor at Ascalon Areana.
Kassad
Oh ok np, But they should have some kind of filter, no elites no drok armour in yaks or ascalon arena.

Off topic and yet not; why are people making such a fuss about Ascalon
and Yak's arena? They suck total ass. Try PvPing somewhere that actually
nets you a decent amount of faction.

Ok my first pvp experiance (ever, not just guild wars). This was about 2ish months ago.
Ok id got my player to level 7. So i decide hmmm whats this ascalon arena then.
Enter
(ill call my teammates blues)
blue = OMG level 7 youll get owned noob
Me = (silence, im thinking okaaay whats this about then, and whys he being a to**er).
blue = ok ill call
me = ok
bish bash bosh we were owned.
rinse and repeat a few times, and i got bored.
Now of couse i cant remember if they had droks armour. But the point was for many people this is their first try at PVP, simply getting owned like that is not fun. Now this didnt put me off PVP, but did put me off tempararly as it made PVP seem like nothing but a bore.
Now when people like me (and i would consider myself typical pve) enter the ascalon arenas, i am expecting to have fun.
scenarios
1. ownage
2. we own them
3. evenly matched team, we to and fro trying to "break" into their group.
Which one of those do you think the typical first timer is going to enjoy more. What you want is a good mix, but if you just come up against 1 again and again, the typical PVE'r will just go.
Droks armour seroisly cripples the chances of a new player getting a good mix of the above, and makes 1 occouring more likely.
my .02 cents

Not complaining really. I went in with standard skills on my monk and drok armor when I was level 9. Got killed plenty of times, and won plenty of times. I cycled through a number of teams and there was maybe one or two people who didn't have drok armor. And as far as how long I was there, well, I left around 5% into level 11 so I saw quite a few people.
(this isn't directed at you, but just at the thread in general) Now it's one thing to go in with your Drok and elites and shit, but it's a whole other thing to dance on the corpses of the losing team and spam shit like "fcking n00bs come back when you don't suck" or "you suck, get better". That's out of line and just shows your immaturity.

If getting owned in these arenas is enough to make you quit the game or not even bother with PvP anymore, then I really couldn't care less. You're obviously not a competitive player.
I got owned plently of times with my first character (a mesmer of all classes), and did the low-level arenas a lot. Wasn't much fun, yeah, but I learned that w/mo's (yes....) were capable of dishing out quite alot of damage. So I made one, and my kill/death ratio in the low level arenas got a lot better. By the time he was in CA, I realized that everybody has counters against warriors, so I made something different again.
I never gave up though, even though I faced people with elites and such. I just dissed them and entered again, because yes, I think I'm competitive, and I'm not gonna let some loser get in my way. If you don't have the same motivation to improve yourself (for example, blinding flash those poison arrow rangers or drokkie warriors and they're useless), then I'd rather you stay away from PvP altogether.

if you hadnt noticed its a GAME, self improvement my bumhole.
Also if you hadnt noticed, a LARGE portion of people are not competitive. I see no need to be, maybe in real life. But then maybe thats because i have one. (please dont go on to say you are a mature adult with kids, miltary service ect, as i dont care).

This is a major problem in getting people into the PvP game. ANet was likely trying to encourage PvP, when all these arenas do is discourage it - thank goodness the re-introduction of experience for kills happened or you'd have the same guys there all the time.
It's bad enough that the skills available at this point in the game aren't even in terms of PvP ability, but adding twinkers to the mix just makes it that much less palatable. If ANet wants new players to PvP they have to work at encouraging it; they need:
1) no twinkers in arenas: Limit weapon damage, skills usable and armour levels.
2) quests that take you into PvP, like the academy mission, and the Thirsty River-style missions.
3) Rewards for PvP at lower levels - PvE rewards for it - after all, we're trying to get PvE player to do arenas, right? Provide nice drops for the lower level players, and gold. Gold is hard to come by at low level, so getting a bit of gold for a win would really help, as would getting a minor rune occasionally and so on. Dyes are also sought after, as are crafting supplies. If steel and furs and such could be won you'd have people doing it to gget their gear, and I'd rather have them in there PvPing for it than farming charr in Fort Ranik - at least if they PvP they may end up liking it!
4) Special PvE rewards from PvP play, like the rank emote and so on. PvE players typically like grinding away working toward something "special"; give them a chance to through PvP - make it a special weapon for their class, with a neat look (no more powerful though than what they could use, or make it like the pre-orders, scaling in power); give them a new armour skin they get access to for winning and so on. PvE rewards would really bring people in - "Cool shield, where'd you get it?" "Oh, it dropped for me after 10 flawless in the arena! It's just 12 AL, but it's customised to me and looks really neat."

Ascalon Arena should allow at most those armors you can buy from the Ascalon City. Skills, weapons, shields or other off-hand items should be limited the ones you can find from the all areas before the portal which leads to Traveler's Vale.
I can't think anything which would make that impossible to do. ArenaNet promised to fix this but nothing has happened.

in my opinion it is totally unfair how experienced players just roam into Ascalon Arena, the almost very first PvP experience to most players, and they abuse the fact that they can kill anyone with elite skills and best armor/weapon/shield etc...AND THEY THINK THEY R GOOD!!! They insult new players with the word "noob", which they use incorrectly, when they kill them. Well, the devs would need to revise Ascalon Arena, limit the max lvl of armors for each class, rule out the use of elite skills, and the damage on each weapon. Having such unfair advantages allows players to gain much more faction than they would regularly do, and i think this needs to be stopped.
Also, how do u think those poor beginners feel when u "own" them with your godly skills and items...which makes u proud...LOL...shameful (--> goes to all those "abusers" out there)

What burns me is that all these jerks "pwning n00bs" in Ascalon Arena then turn around and post complaints on forums just like this about how GW is dying, where did everybody go? etc.
When you're done with the relatively short world of PvE in GW, PvP is all that is left. If nothing is done to encourage PvE players to play and improve at PvP, then it's a battle of attrition as PvP continually fades until the next chapter and the PvE people come back. If you are a PvP player, IT IS IN YOUR BEST INTEREST to encourage newbs to try PvP, and to get better. Otherwise PvP will wither and the "competitive" players will sit around for hours waiting for matches (and bitching about it) while the PvE players (who could have become PvP but were quickly soured on it by exploiters) move on to another game. Oh, wait, that's already happening.
I consider myself a model case. GW was my first MMORPG, and my first foray into online PvP gaming. I bought the game on the day of its release, and so twinking wasn't an issue when I was in Ascalon and Yaks - I was part of the first wave of people still figuring out the game. I tried random arena on a lark, and lo and behold it was a lot of fun - I lost a lot, but gradually got the hang of it and was hooked.
I've since brought up two other characters, and both times I dipped my toes in the Ascalon and Yaks arena for old times' sakes, only to quickly leave in disgust - not only are the arenas infested with twinks, but the arrogance and insulting attitude that covers their selfish cowardice made it all far worse. Yeah buddy, you cheated, good for you. Now why don't you go "pwn" some kid at tee-ball.
Why Anet doesn't fix this is beyond me. It's shooting their own game in the foot.

I think the ideal fix to this has been suggested a number of times, and it seems to me that it is so easy for them to implement. Like 10 lines of code easy. Just make a flag that when a player enter's Yak's Bend (for example) then that flag is changed and that player loses access to Ascalon arena. Likewise, when the player gets to either forge or Lion's (the next arena towns), then a flag is set so they lose access to Yak's arena. Ridiculously easy to implement, and would make these arenas so much better.

I just went into the arena a few times if my lvl7 Necromancer just to see...
First fight..a lvl10 enemy ranger used Apply Poison (knew it was done with that) and preceded to own each member in a row with bow attacks you dont get til much later in the game.
I didnt see my first elite there for a few more rounds, but plenty of people in max stat armor (some 15k armor) and skills their not to have.
I finally quit when I was beat by a lvl11 that said they had won 53 consecutive times..

Get ready this is Living Too Dies 2 cents! I agree that something really does need to be done about the high end skills and armor being used in ascalon/ YB arenas. It really demoralizes people trying new builds through arena play (the inexperienced people that prefer random arenas to topk). In my opinion, the people that do use ridiculously overwhelmig armor/ skills are gutless.. they dont have what it takes to compete in the tombs or even the max level arenas. As for me.. I dont complain about it (complaining isnt getting anything fixed so maybe everyone should just suck it up and figure a way to deal with it). Since i play PvE as much as PvP, I use my PvE chars for PvP.. mainly topk not arenas. I use my PvE characters in the arenas that they are allowed to go into with the proper skills, this helps figure out a build through competitive fighting. I dealt with these people one way... I created a mesmer.. I totally rocked the yaks and ascalon arenas with her just having low ball skills. Anyway.. good strategy can still beat uber armor/ skills all you gotta do is stay cool and exploit their weaknesses

I think this whole thread is a joke. You can't do anything about it, it's an effective way of getting faction, and ArenaNet doesnt seem to mind.. It's not like faction makes you better anyway.. I dont know any PvP characters that are better than PvE characters.. It's sad that you level 20's are so angry about other people farming Faction, when u go out to Sorrows Furnace and farm, doing the same exact thing. Plus, nobody cares about noobies and people who just started playing . Second of all, Anyone can get their character to level 20 in about 24 hours, so do it and quit complaining.

I play the arenas with "twinked" chars, and I will continue to until Arenanet does something to block it. While I would much rather just be able to roll a char, lvl him to 10, and play in there, you cant. 75% of the people in the lvl 10 & 15 arena are twinks, if you try to play in there legit you're gonna get rolled, and getting rolled is not fun. It's even gotten to the point you cant just equip your char with good equip & runes, you have to go out and get elites now to compete. Don't even get me started on unkillable monks.
Elistan Theocrat
Thats exactly what I was talking about. People who perpetuate this extraordinarily lame behavior think that I am against it because I care so much that I lost in the ascalon arena without droks/elites. This is incorrect. The ONLY people who give a damn about winning and losing in the ascalon arena are the losers who feel the need to bring shit that doesnt belong.
I remember when this started. These arenas used to be quite fun and competition there used to be good. Then anet in its flailing, misguided attempt to appease the FPS crowd removed experience from the arenas. Thus faction farming by tipping the balance of the arenas was born. Anet failed to realize that 15% of the playerbase really is the lowest of the low and will have no qualms upon infringing on the balance of the game (in those areas) or the enjoyment of the game for others.
It doesn't confront me personally anymore as all 4 of my pve characters are now overlvled for those arenas, but its a shame that I have to tell new players in my guild that the first place they have the silightest chance of an even playing field is comp arena. All due to losers who actually think that winning in ascalon is so important that it merits exploiting a gap that anet has yet to close. Disgusting.

You assume everyone farms.
You assume every character that is low level is just a secondary character of someone who already has lvl20's.
And you assume everyone wants to rush through the game.
You know what assuming does...
True the arenas there are not important for people that just want to have their characters run throughthe game to farm.
They are there so the people that just started can learn about PvP and get a full experience about the game. I myself played 40+ game hours before I left Northern Shiverpeak's area (beacon's etc), and was about lvl14.
It isn't there for faction farming. Atleast not to the point where new players can no longer use the arenas.

I have characters that have been run and are the exact opposite.
4 characters on a new account, all lvl 18 (atm) with only pre-searing skills.
Don't flame me but i have taken the quest to lvl and ascend them, do the secondary changing quests and then selecting which secondary i will take for each of the skill giving quests. That way i can fill my skills most efficiently.

I have two accounts, and was going to have a little fun; I used my pvp slot to create one more pve character to unlock skills and play in the arena. I've since sworn off the lower level arenas for good. Not because I want to, but because it is necessary to keep sanity. The pvp slot will stay free now forever.
It is sad that ANet, for all the great things they do, do not see the loser arena twinkies as a problem.

ok heres my story. I play alot in the arenas, both lower-class and the comp. arenas. In the lower-class arenas, i have seen about 127 ppl so far with 15k armor. Another case is when i play in the arenas...there are ppl lvl 3-16 in the competition arenas, and lvl 2-8's in the shiverpeak and team arenas. I think they should put a lvl restriction on the arenas and Marhan's Grotto and Granite Citadel because low lvls are "cheating" through the game. I don't know or care if anyone disagrees on this subject, please do not flame at me if i am wrong or such.

I think it's wrong for people to get armor from anywhere beyond Ascalon and take it into Ascalon Arena. I think it's wrong for people to get armor from anywhere beyond Yak's Bend and take it into Yak's Bend. Those people should be banned, pure and simple.
But a level 4 in droks at Team Arenas still only has what, 160 hp? 210 with a Sup vigor. 85 with no vigor + a sup anything else, 135 with a sup vigor + a sup anything else.
Not enough attribute points to be useful. But hey, if 4 people wanna team up as level 4 to try a build, more power to them! Though in CA, yeah it should be restricted 15-20.

I'm somewhat torn between AL limits in arenas and not.. but only because of my old days in Diablo II. I was a heavy LLDer (low level dueler) and constantly made characters that ranged from level 9 to level 33, with the complete purpose of taking out HIGHER levels. The only difference though is that in DII, those LLD characters were often somewhat praised by people equal to their level and higher as being pretty bamf. LLD in guild wars just comprises of getting elite skills, and high AL, and picking on those lower then you. I'm not sure where I'm going with this now, because I looked away at the history channel for a minute.. but yeah, LLD in guild wars is about faction farming, whereas it would be looked up on and not looked down on if it was about taking out higher levels.

I'll admit I've twinked in Ascalon Arena for kicks, but there really isn't much faction farming going on. It's more like how well you can play with a very small amount of health / skill points.
It's retarded, I suck at HoH and I can still farm more faction in 30 minutes than 3 hours at Ascalon Arena.

Arenas right now only have a check against levels. Add a check to see if your char has gone through Yaks/LA/Forge and you've not changed PvE at all, but suddenly the low and mid level arenas become a very *fun* playground again. I know we're not working for Anet, but jeez... it sounds so simple.
