lol Worth stopping by just for that methinks.

I've had some nice people just give me greens and such out of the blue to help a starting necro out, which was very nice of them.

Well this kinda sucks, but this one guy asked me what my favourite colour was and i replied green so he bought me a set of green dye for my armor, then replied that if i had said black he would have bought me a set of black.... its the thought that counts.

OMG! I've seen another person doing this! His name was Father Ian Brodrick or something, and he was sitting in Foible's Fair International one day. There was a whole circle of characters around him, and in Local chat he was transcribing a children's book about a puppet named Noddy. Everyone who came in did a double take, and then most came and sat quietly in the circle (including myself). It was the cutest thing.

I needed help for The Great Northern Wall mission. A guy helped me with that mission, plus all the missions until Amoon Oasis, then ran me to Augury Rock, gave me a req 9 Eternal Shield (which I sold to merchant a few weeks later, when I found a better shield, not knowing it was worth so much =S) and a green bow. ^^

About 3 months ago I was buying the Totem Axe. Asked what it goes for. This guy told me what it went for. He asked why I needed it and I told him ele farming. We talked about spots and builds and he gave me a nice earth offhand for free to go with my Axe. Told me if I ever get an elite monk tome let him know cause he wants one. Literally like 3-4 days later I got one and sold it to him for half price (5k).

well all the guildies in my new guild [URU] are really nice people.

i have been playing guild wars for over 2 years now, but im quite a casual player and have never done any elite areas. they frequently go on elite runs and will invite me and help me set up the correct builds, even giving me tomes for skills and stuff. they are always helpful and never insult me and its cool, i learn a lot because im not afraid to ask questions.

thats often the problem. you are afraid to say that its your first time doing anything because people usually shout noob and rage kick you from groups or whatever... and chances are i have been playing a lot longer than some of them :P

Some members of my previous guild. I have been very fortunate in both regards.

Then, there's a number of people on my friends list that have been there for years, as well as a few people I met here. No names. You all know who you are. Too many stories to recount. Met so many nice people in game. More than outweighs my bad experiences.

One time (long long ago) i was asking around in LA for 50g so i could buy some dye for my armor, and this one guy gave me 5k
And when greens were first introduced i became part of a "trading ring" with some strangers, one of them lent me 20k. ( i saw them in game a year later and paid them back :P)
yeah so they were pretty nice guys

That wouldn't be my criteria at all.

Consider the opposite: the basis for whether a player is a jerk or not is how that player behaves towards other players in this cooperative game. For example, a jerk can be considered one who doesn't play with a team spirit, or who commands or berates other players, or who leaves in the middle of a mission for no good reason (like, dinner is ready or I'm dead, etc.) or who scribbles obscene images on the map view, etc. etc.

So in my mind, a "nice" player is one who really tries to make the other players in the team feel comfortable and have an enjoyable and exciting time while playing this game. And in my opinion that means not only good team play but also a good humor and good spirit.
Here Here. Just like real life...the best people give you their time, understanding, compassion, friendship...not materials.

Kindest person I met? Hard to say, many people are both jerks and nice people. But I can say those who are nice at least most of the time end up in my friend's list. But, no one has given me free stuff then was nice after for very long, or was active afterwards.

I've never met anyone nice in-game.

I've been in some guilds that were well-organized and overall helpful, but it seemed like an agenda/policy to them rather than real goodwill. I know the distinction is subtle, but there's a different feeling between people who do something because it's "company policy" (so-to-speak), and people who do it because they're genuinely kind people. With these guilds it was always a, "okay, who needs help today ... alright, who's available to help this time?" kind of deal; as I said, helpful - but ultimately uninspiring.

To tell the truth though, I think being 'nice' is overrated. If they're civil and competent, that's plenty good enough as far as I'm concerned. I'm probably in the minority though, judging from this thread.

A monk named Mitch.

Late summer 2006 I think, I'd been farming UW on my necro, with random 55 monks. One sad evening I tried about 10 runs with 2-3 different 55s and none of them could make it past the first group of Aatxes. I didn't understand the 55 build or the skills very well at that point so I didn't know what they were doing wrong; I was just frustrated. In ToA local chat I said something like "is there even one 55 here who can survive the first mob?"

A monk with pale blue FoW partied with me. He paid the entrance fee, and IIRC we cleared the entire top half of UW without a hitch. He played faster than I'd ever seen until then, and smooth -- no loitering around between groups, just running from one aggro to the next. He pulled aggros so big they scared me, and nightmares appeared everywhere but he calmly wanded them to death and waited for me to spam my spells; nothing seemed to faze him. If I screwed up on the smites and they stripped my hexes, he'd say something like "np take your time".

We farmed together off-and-on for months. We watched each other closely during runs, learning tricks and sharing advice, refining our techniques and timing until "speed runs" were effortless -- we could do spider runs in 20 minutes or so.

But of all the things I learned from farming with Mitch, the greatest things were patience, understanding and generosity. We don't farm much anymore, but whenever he's not online, I'll party with inexperienced 55s in ToA. I sometimes pay for any gear or skills they need, and I pay the entrance fees. When they screw up and die, I tell them it's no big deal, I've died thousands of times; I explain what they did wrong and how to fix it. And I usually give away the first ecto that drops, because they're playing for money and I'm "only" playing for companionship.

Mad King Lau.

One of my friends, we call him "Lau", that I met over GW a few years back saw that we were having issues in alliance chat back in my old alliance. People were just generally grumpy. So he whispers me, asks me to make an announcement to be in the guild hall in 10 minutes. I did. A handful of people turn up.

After about 5 minutes, he shows up, Pumpkin crown and 1k Kurzick armor on. He did, WORD FOR WORD, Mad King Thorn's speech (including bad jokes), giving away gifts to people who beat him in rock paper scissors. More and more people showed up at the hall, danced, chatted etc. Eventually, he left the hall, leaving the alliance feeling generally happier.

He actually did an anniversary-of-Mad-King-Lau do this year too, on around the same date xD Lau if you happen to read this, we love you <3

That's really awesome!

As for my own. I rarely party with anyone outside my Guild. I've known my Officers for years, two of them I see every day. I've known many of my Members for years, a few of them I know in real life as well. I've run into plenty of nice players in the years I've been playing. But, my Guild, while small (12 members, 5 active), are some of the nicest bunch. We always help each other out. Whether it be through hooking each other up with gear, helping out on quests or missions, doing some title farming, going skill hunting or just chatting away while we farm or mess around. Any bad day I have ends up being a lot better after getting some game time in with the Crew.

I like to add a little something to each purchase I make through this auction; four-leaf clover, easter egg, candy cane, an extra platinum or five.

During one such sale, the person I was buying a Necro tome from put in a little something also and added a nice note.

There are good guys out there and I happen to run into one of them.

Okay, that Mad King Lau story was just freaking awesome. ^^

Anywho, I try to be nice in GW, I really do. I just have a bad temper and when frusteration overcomes me, I yell. I give my guild members a little assistance but more often than not, I will teach those close to me how to make money. I find it easier (and a lot more helpful) to just tell them how I earn it than to keep shelling out to them. Hell, I even pay people to give their items to me so I can make the money. btw, if you want to know the secret to my success, I will say it now. Research and knowing basic economics.

Might be I was looking for hard mode groups to complete Legendary Protector (prior to Ursan silliness and consumables) and made a few posts here on the forums about the need for a better Party Search system. I had recently left my old guild that I had been in since the start of GW and many of my friends had retired. My current guild leader read a post and invited me to pursue Legendary Guardian with him, I ended up in his guild, and we went on to pursue a number of titles. Hell of a guy.

I've been lucky, I have to say, with my experiences in GW. Met so many nice people and for the most part havent had that many bad experiences. Some guild drama in my previous guild, but hey, havent we all had that?

Nicest thing ever done to me was I had just made a running build for a little profit making (I was poor back in those days) but of course this came right as running was getting real cheap. I was running from Ascalon to Yak's for tips and for some reason had a lvl. 20 tagging along with me. Anyway, we got there and I was like 'Anything is appreciated' and she ended up giving me 10 plat. It was awesome.

Seems to me that there alot of people that are not nice in the GW, but only a few that are... I personally never got anything good from anyone, but I actually am the one that gives away alot of nice stuff to people quite often. Then again, I really stuck to myself and haven't needed much. I mainly just farmed alot, so I got plenty of goods.

I got so much stuff in storage and on across all 10 of my chars, I usually alot of collected stuff away so others can make good use of them, instead of selling it all to merchant. I don't like to merch decent weapons and such, seems like a waste to me (most of the time). I usually end up at the Monastery or Kamadan to give away alot of nice golds to low level people that would really appreciate anything more than what they got. I sometimes give away stuff that can be worth 10-15k. Sometimes I actually give away 5-10k plat to help a person out, even though I think they should earn their keeps like I did over the years. I also don't enjoy going town to town trying to sell most of my stuff, sure no one does, but I would rather give most of it away just to get rid of it.

Personally, I have helped alot of 330hp fans out to get set up to farm... usually buy them armor (even though 15AL is really cheap), dye, runes, staffs/mods, and materials for their armor. I personally haven't met anyone that would do such things, as they can take the game quite seriously as if it is a real life situation, lol. I personally only think of it as just a game, and it is all about having fun...so why not help people out to have a better experience...? But yeah, its all fun and games, should only play to enjoy it...

Giving, itself is a great blessing, and can actually make people feel good about themselves by helping other people out... especially in real life. In any possible way, giving is always a good thing.

I have been lucky to have met some very friendly players in the world of Guild Wars. One guy helped me do most of the missions on Shing Jea Island. I was starting a new character and wanted to speed through fast. The guy helped me do all the quests and the Zen Dejan mission on masters. Gave him 1k for his troubles.

Im not boasting but i have helped quite alot of people. I find helping people gives you a sense of pride and accomplishment. For starters, i ferry people to the consulate docks. One guy couldn't trade with me because his character wsn't 24 hours old. I trusted him to give me the money when he could and so he did. Nice to be able to trust someone in GW. I have helped people do Ascalom missions many times and let them have the drops (unless its a black dye :P). Its so fun to help as you can whoop low level creatures and meet the old Ascalon gang.

My current guild. I've gone from large guild to large guild (large guild being alliance of 7+ guilds, each with 50-100 members) slowly picking up people I like as we left guilds and joined new ones together, like a personality katamari! Finally, theres a guild of about 13 of us who have met along the way, who get on famously, and talk science, guild wars and digress a lot.

Of course, the nicest person in guild wars is the mate who got me into guild wars. We've yet to be in separate guilds after nearly three years.

It's rough to be nice, as some people think you're trying to scam them.

I try to be nice. I gave a newbie a complete walk though and helped him thought he first NF mission, and later a plat. He actually thought I was a game master. He's a guildie of mine now, and I make sure to say hi ever since.

As for nice guys for me, I've had a few give me money, but generally the best are the ones who are just nice, not rude, and good at diplomatically telling you what you're doing wrong or right. Too many players act all high and mighty about themselves and aren't willing to work with unexperienced players. The ones who do are great.

I've got to say that Ive met some of the nicest people ever in HA, fighting against them. (Some werent so great...see jerks thread) I remember fighting a team that could have rolled us in three seconds. We did some fast talking as they rolled through our backline, and we were laughing our heads off when they dropped the last midline. Then they all sat down, and we had a good 5 minute chat. It was the funnest time I had all night. I'll never forget those guys
