Male Players playing Female Characters?

3 of my 4 characters are female. I can't be a Mesmer, Warrior, etc. in real life but I can in GW...so why not go the whole way and be female as well. I suppose I could go for the operation in real life, but hey, lets not get carried away.

Also, the female characters looks much better than the male ones and I need some eye candy while playing the game.

I have 1 female elementalist and 1 female ranger.
The armor on those just looks better then on the male version.

Only when i use teamspeak (when i play with guild mates) its kind of weird because they adress me with the female name, Sira or Lana.

And my voice just isn't really feminin, so its allso a little weird for them when lana speaks to them with a heavy voice

Why anyone would care if a guy plays a girl is beyond me. Do you plan on hitting on girls while you play this game? Some people (myself included) would rather stare at a girl all day than a guy.

I'm not sure I equate the two at all. One nimrod in an ex-guild thought it funny once to annoy with the character /emotes and liked to get close to my toon in the Guild Hall. And help, even handouts = respect? Going x times through the game I'd just as soon be left to it myself.
I got it thanks.

Actually that's one of the reasons all of my toons since my elementalist have been male, I don't need the kiddie attraction factor. Though curves from the 3rd person is nice, I'll just as soon play as the other avatar at this point.

Funny in Everquest it wasn't an issue, but then I played with more serious, older players. My two cents. Otherwise I have the same view as CHunterX, above.

While i agree with most of the views up top, I find being attracted to a computer female kind of strange. Further the only thing that bothers me is that when I interact with other ppl I am under the assumption that there character represents them, pschologically to discover that the girl your talking to is actually a guy can be very disruptive to a playing environment. Often times this is not an issue however there are an increasing number of Males completely masquerading as females. Personally you can be whatever sex and profession you want to be, but we must be wary of those that would use it to deceitfully exploit certain situations. I.E charactes masquerading as women to more easily connect with real females in the game...grrr...scary...

i dont mind if you want to play a female character, but please dont lie and say you ARE female if someone asks, when in fact you are anything but. Doing this to try and get handouts and mooch off people is NOT cool, im a female, and i play female characters, and i do NOT run around asking people for money and weapons like a beggar. pfsh.

All Male Characters on a male player.

Why? Because I'm not worried about staring at an ass so much as I don't like the skimpy armor graphics on the ladies. I want a woman in full platemail like a warrior, dammit! It doesn't just..feel the same if I were playing a female character.

While others have the "ass" argument going, I just say this: If they do it, it's not something to rip on, because obviously they are very confident in their sexuality that it doesn't matter that <insert random come-on from a horny-middle aged man> while they're playing a female.

Also, the "preferential treatment" arguement..true. I can't deny this. I've seen people just hand a woman char some stuff, if the same guy on a male char asked, would have gotten pimpslapped with babypowder.

Beggars are always annoying. There's nothing worse than someone who solicits handouts instead of challenging themselves to actually earn their gear, regardless of toon gender. I've freely given out gear to those who make an effort to purchase my gear, despite the fact that they were well short of the required gold mark -- rather than taking any payment, I simply say "Today is your lucky day! Hit accept."

Needing gold and begging gold are two different things.

Don't beg, plain and simple..beggars are frowned on, ignored listed, and spat on because they want something from nothing. Now NEEDING gold for something and EARNING it is very, very different. =)

I am a male, and I play a female character. I just don't really like how a male elementalist looks.

Every little while, I put in a smiley like ^_^ v into my in game chat. And quickly, if I ever mess up on a target or anything, everyone assumes I am a girl and treats me nicely.

When a 'male' screws up, they are quickly blamed and called noob and a player leaves the mission. Thus, the mission is ruined.

When I accidentally aggro a bunch of random stuff, I am quickly forgiven and Ressurected right away.

A little unfair don't you think? Maybe it IS better if everyone was thought to be of the female variety?

There's begging and there's begging, though. In the War Camp there was a guy ROLEPLAYING a beggar, and that, I felt, was fun enough that I gave him 100 gold.

my gf has a character on my account and its quite funny when i get whispers that are meant for her by people who dont know we both have characters. yeah i use female characters too and not for just the eye candy but because the male emotes are just plain awful, i'd be embarassed to dance or even do a taunt. i even deleted my male necro and made a female one because the dances are just so bad on male characters. only a couple of examples are needed here, male necro = spazzy crap jumping like an idiot, female necro = cool thriller dance, male warrior = pathetic grind/idiotic twirl, female warrior = cool pulp fiction dance. since the sex of the character doesnt determine anything you may as well go for the best looking or best emotes.

When I make a new character I usually just choose a gender which I think "matches" a class; I ended up with two female/two male characters so I guess there is some sort of balance. ;P

Someone has a problem with it as there is an all girl guild I heard spamming in Droknar's for members. There was a catch - you needed Team Speak to prove to them that you were in fact, actually, a girl.

Well I've heard a lot of 12 year old gamer boys that sounded like girls on teamspeak. If you really want to know if an "in game girl character" is a real life girl. Just watch them talk for a minute, if they start saying things like "PM me if you are a lesbian" or "anyone want to have sex?" Well then it is a boy.

I blame my desire for female characters on D&D. Why? Because I was always forced to GM, and I had to have every concievable character type up and ready to go. Now, I usually end up with a Female and a Male character in just about every game I play.

What's really funny is when you get people hitting on you because they think you really are a girl. It's even better when they freak out after you say "You know I'm a guy, right?" Good times, good times.

I'm guessing that this is for various reasons which cary from person to person, but one reason is that in every fighting game ever made, the female characters pwn everything. they are the fastest and nimblest and deal quick damage. So people think, well, why not in RPGs as well? It's all a matter of choice, but i just give a word of warning to all the guys who payed like $40 for GW just to pick up chicks that most of the chicks are, in fact, not chicks at all, and you are making a big mistake.

Am I the only one here that thinks that male characters are worth playing? Sure people give you extra treatment and stuff if you play a female. But, to be honest, playing a female character is just different. Just like females play a more subservient role in society, they dont really personify the great adventurer or hero that I would like. Yes they can be heroic and adventurous, but they dont carry the characteristics that I see in a true hero, such as strength, will power, and that imposing prescense, etc. Sure others can see their characters this way, be they male or female, I just like my heroes male.

Half of my characters arent pretty, so much as characterized. The only male warrior look I like is the bald hair and wrinkly face, because it speaks to me, it tells me of all hes been through, it shows his character. I also like the creepy looking male ele face, not because hes pretty, hes not, but paired with the pony tail and white hair it makes him look tortured, like hes holding some terrible secret. Sure my other two characters are pretty, but hey, pretty people are nice too.

Its just wierd. It's kinda like deception. But that's only people who play girls with the intent of pretending they are one, when they infact are not.

I'm into roleplaying in RPG's, surprise surprise, so my choice of gender depends on my character. My main character, a warrior, is male. Because that's what that character is. My secondary, a necro, is also male. Not only does that fit his role, male necros look better than females in my opinion.

However, my... third-ary and fourth-ary characters will be female. Female Canthan monk because they look good, and female assassin because, again, fits the role.

Of course, it's always good to have something nice to look at while running around the Crystal Desert, but it's not the main factor when I choose a gender. All depends on how I want my characters to be.

As Mistress Smooth said, it's annoying to play with people who claim to be something they're not, especially when everyone can hear the breaking
lumberjack-voice they're trying to hide on Ventrillo...

I thought I posted in this before, but I guess not.

My first few characters were all male, like in all of the BWE and everything. Male male male male. Male ranger, male mesmer, male monk. It got boring after awhile. I wanted something new. I wanted to make a mesmer, and I didn't have one yet(my mesmer I just mentioned was in the BWE), so I made it a female mesmer for something new.

I think right now I have a fine balance of two male characters and two females. Female warrior because they just look better, and a female necro with 15k scars... which is amazing.

My male monk is the best looking monk ever... hands down. And then the other is just a pvp slot which is generally a male character, but I'm willing to change for a few laughs.

It really makes no difference if people are guys or girls in game. If you really want to know play some pvp with them and listen to them on vent/ts.

I have had both male and female characters, right now they are all female

Started off with a male a warrior, he made it to beacon's then a I needed a temp character, so I made a female warrior, I took her to the north lands and killed all the char, well I couldn't get rid of her...so bye Aslan.

Had a male ranger/warrior, wasn't sure about the build so I did a ranger/monk and since I had a male already, I liked that build better, kept her.

I wanted to play a necro, and males are just ewwww!!!!!, couldn't stand looking at him for more than an hour, glady deleted him.

Had a male Monk, but I need a slot for the FPE, maybe I will start him up again.

Definitly want a male assissin.

And since I am going for women character I might as well make them as good looking as I can, my female warrior has definitely been called hot, poor guy I had to tell him he wouldn't say that if he saw me in real life.

When I go for male looks I also sometimes go for the "aged and wise".

Now if there was some gender advantage that would be different, such as males have more damage per attack and females have a higher rate of attack, that may cause a bit of a shift.

FYI, I'm female in real life. I have one female character at this time, and four males. I've been stalked and harrassed before in real life and online because I'm female. I don't need semi-illiterate "r u rly a girl?" spam.

In GW, most people assume I'm a guy, because I play guy characters. I don't bother to correct them usually. I find it easier and more relaxing to play male characters. It's sad that the population of overly-horny adolescents has driven me to feel this way, but nevertheless, they're to blame.

And that my male mesmer has a very nice, ahem, rear view, and I find my male necro almost cuddly doesn't hurt.

There needs to be a /slap emote. To bad there can't be a gold penalty with it, like x amount of gold or an item deducted from the slapee's (is this a word) account. Of course this goes right up there with a friendly fire ability.

Yeah I am a girl in RL and half the time the main cities are more like a dating service then a game lol. I know my bf only has male chars but alot of my male friends have female chars because they think the guys look stupid. So maybe if they changed it so you could customize the faces more you'd have more males playing male chars. Personally i don't really care either way its the preference of the people playing

My first character was a male ranger. It was easy to make the character look the part - he LOOKED like a ranger! My second try at character creation was a male warrior, he lasted about an hour, almost as long as it took me to settle on his appearance. IMHO, all male warrior combos look horrid. I re-casted the warrior as a female, and haven't stopped playing her - easy on the eyes & fun profession to play. Now I've got 4 female characters, mainly because I don't care for the looks of the male mesmers, eles, or monks either.

I'm actually split evenly on which classes I prefer to play as male and which as female. (Though at the moment my characters are one male, three female.) My monk somewhat mirrors a role playing character I've had around in my head for a long time, so he's male, and I prefer male characters for mesmers, warriors, and ritualists as well. For elementalists, rangers, necros, and assassins, I like the female models.

And that's mainly it is for me. I prefer the character models for one class/sex, or I dislike another and so I use the alternative. The only reason my necro is female, for example, is because I dislike the male necro models. If I'm going to be playing a character for a long time, I want them to look good, be they male or female.

I find it funny when guys hit on me while I'm playing a female character, though. Sometimes I do a bit of role playing and act like I'm a girl to string them along. What can I say? I like toying with people.

hehe, my girlfriend gets that alot, so ive taken to playing with her on every mission, thne when she gets a question i state who i am and it soon shuts those perverts up, she also gets "wll yu go out wit mi" alot, oddest thing was when some guy accused her of being a pervert for playing a female charactr, and wouldn't believe she was a real girl....guess he's never had much experience with females

i get accused of that so often =/ once i was in a ranger trap team in UW and two of them were in the same guild and just kept asking me if i was really female IRL and if i had boobs -.-;;

i'm female IRL, and it just so happens that i prefer to play female chars; in all the games i've played online i've always chosen females for some reason, males ones just don't appeal to me.

My Chars are divided by 1 male & 3 females. I just picked gender looking through armour catalogs to see what kind of armour is best looking.

From my opinion female characters have more personality in their looks.

Btw. where are the rest two sex? androgyn & pandaka ...
