I have a friend who's female and plays female chars. But when someone asks her if she's really a girl, she tells them she's a 40 year old man so they don't hit on her. Makes ya think doesn't it.

I'd rather not think.

My characters are gender based on class... all are male except mesmers (don't like the male design) and assassins (too much Diablo II ).

Correction: I play a female character when I think the build is particularly annoying, like a degen mesmer or necro, or a dagger spamming armored warder.

Or any monk.

It just suits the role: a little girl taunting the huge male warrior.

LOL. Agreed. Some of my characters just needed to be female, some needed to be male. Except for necros, it was a pretty easy decision picking which gender I wanted for each class. I could never decide which way I wanted to go with Necros, and I still haven't picked yet. Like others have mentioned before, I consider specific emotes and armor types as being influential (and valid) reasons for picking one gender over another. Cool female necro dance? Or FOW spikes actually coming out of his skin?

I've got a male warrior and monk, and a female ranger. My pvp slot is always female. I wish I had made my monk as a female, but I <3 my warrior and wouldn't change him for the world.

I'm sure I must have said this somewhere in the last 13 pages but what the heck..

I think you've got two types of folks:

a) Those that view the character as themselves. These folks are generally freaked out by cross-gender characters.

b) Those that view the characters as their minions. Possibly much loved and cared for, but minions none the less. At that point, gender is a matter of taste. Do you want to be a pro football coach or Charlie (with angels).

c) I guess the true roll players would be a third set, but anyway..

I think D2 forced a lot of us into the second category. If you wanted to play a sorc, you HAD to play a female character.

I generally have one character who is "me" in the game. Usually the first one I start and always male. The later characters are usually based on ascetics.

I'm male

Got 6 female chars so far. The only one i regret to made it female was my Ranger, since those white bearded, white haired males look fantastic.Didn't pay attention when creating it and found them too late though.
I'd like to do a Male Warrior too but well, he is so (put adjectives here), that i made it female, although she looks a bit weird for me.

The rest had no doubts. Love to watch them when playing since spent 2 years with EVE-Online and a horrid (oh yea thats the correct adjective) male avatar.

I treat every player with the respect every PERSON deserves, and i don't mind if he's a girl playing a man, a man playing with female avatars, a woman roleplaying a strong Female warrior or whatever, or simply a player enjoying some laugh with his friends and guildies.

The rest, too many cheap psicology.

just my 2 cents

PS- btw, bele ( my Forum name ) means Raven in my language, nothing to do with beauty

Like I always say when someone asks why you play a female character than a male. I just reply "its better looking at a girls ass all day than a males."

I'm a girl; play all girl chars because:

1. I think they just look better
2. Yeah I'm one of those 'me-freaks' who like to fantasize that its me out there..hey, can't blame a girl for dreaming

I hear ya Harmony. THat's the same reasons that I play girl chars (I'm a girl). Now my best friend is a guy and plays girl chars alot. He says because in most games, girls are the spelllcasters and he plays a spellcaster best.

There is one more type of people: Those who know that you must create some sort of character, in order to channel your skills and abillities into the game world. They just don't care what "they" look like in-game.

I cant see why to make a thread about this o.0

Anyway, Its just variety, I got a male nec (doh) and a male ranger (w00t for ranger dance), female monk (coz they can be so dang small XD), and a female warrior (males are DAMN ugly).

Its just the looks and variety, and a bit of your own perspective.

I was on a FoW run the other night and we were getting ready to wrap it up. We finished the spider cave and got to the beach and people started dying. I was left alone with my female necro and no rez. I ran away, said cya I was going back to pick up my exp points from the forgemaster and call it a night. I am a guy, and my red-headed necro in tormentor's armour is quite something to look at.

These guys on my team never asked if I was a girl or not. But they stayed on while I picked over unclaimed drops and got my exp points. I asked them if they were watching me run around. They said yes.

I checked out. They never asked if I was a guy, and I said nothing. A little creepy though. I spent 10 minutes running around and they just stayed there.

Why do people like male monks? Hasn't anybody seen Ugly Gay Monk? (i'd post a link but search is ALWAYS disabled.)

Anyway, female characters look better and were designed to appeal to adolescent+ males. Everyone's seen a female ele lingerie dancing party somewhere in Tyria!

I detest the male warrior look - especially if they have the damned FoW helm! (and are w/mo O_O)

I wonder if the want to play a female character stems from some other deeper part of the persons psyche. Like if they arent playing them for their armor or style. After a few minutes, your character is no longer special, in the way that a pretty girl walking by is special. Your character becomes the norm, so their look matters very little for your "eye candy" unless they are grotesquely ugly. This means that there has to be some greater reason that people choose to play females prodominately, when so many other factors suggest the usage of male characters. For example, more often than not, the male is personified as the hero, and in human evolution it plays the roll of the protector and gatherer, etc, while the female plays the roll of the mother and nurturer. Perhaps some sort of reverse freudian philosophy? That would give me a kick.

That is basically the reason why a bunch of guys play female characters. I'm a guy and i got bored of looking at my half naked monk in tats so i made a female ranger and bought the revealing 15k druids for her. the only class i wouldnt consider being female is a necro. male necros imo look more evil and have the best hair styles in the game. mohawks and devil locks FTW!!!

it's simple really...

Most Guys don't want to stare at a guy's butt all day, it much more pleasant experaince to stare at a more pleasing shape.

This is the "Lara Croft" effect.

All my characters are male,I don't see a reason for a male to play a female.

Lol,just remembered one of my guildies at this party we had in LA.She kept calling the female Rangers there sluts for taking off their armor and dancing. She told them to put their armor back on.

i have two males and two females char ..just to balance things out,i think i created male chars because i rather imagine it was me in an alternate world and for the female chars is when i fell like controlling a female,i dont really like to play the famle chars ,usually gets hit on by people and i kinda feel like people are treating me as a female which i dont really aprreciate,oh yes i could always look at others female chars if im tired of my male chars anyway ..lol..because obviously i know that usually only girls/woman knows how to dress their female chars to look hot according to my high taste

I play 3 pve female characters. i started ranger, and even if i like the 60k armor, i wish i created a male ranger (i like the dance and the look of the character).

Then i started a warrior. Female too, because male warriors just look bad. And i wanted to have a better looking char than my ranger. And then the necro. Male necros are just so ugly. i dont want to look at marylin manson each time i play necro.

Anyway, my pvp char are often males because i dont like monk and mesmer female looks.

I also erased my male ele because he was just too ridiculous in his stupid closes.

I wish i had a male monk or ranger to buy fow armor...

Anyway, even if the male warrior is ugly, i'd like to have this crazy dance...

So when i create a new char i think about

-look

-armors

-dance (but pvp char can dance too )

- and also, having nolife 12 year old guys offering me gold and stuff just because i play a female char hahaha ! (that's not totally exact, someone gave me 2 plat when i played with my male ele)

Well, me being a male, all the six GW: Prophecies characters which I have played have been males.

My Gw: Factions characters will be females and I may make an elementalist, an assassin and a ritualist.

The reason is that I like japanese, korean and chinese females.

For me it depends on the character. I currently play two males and one female. Essentially they are all members of the same family but all have their own way of doign things so they do not "hang out" together (which, of course, is impossible). As I solo most of the time, owing to the difficulty in finding any compatible players with which to form a team, I do not find myself getting any advantage by playing a female (unless having some toad get in my face and say "ur hot"). ;-)

I have seen many female warriors played by men, it kinda makes me mad. I do not like laziness. All they do is play this game 24 hours a day. I play football and track, I do not know how they can live with themselves sitting on their asses all day... Just my thoughts.

Hmm, one of the few women who play this game I guess...

i have 4 characters...3 female and 1 male.

the warriors are ALL ugly so I dont even have one of them

elementals are much better looking female as are the mesmers, the necros, just dont like the stance of the male one and the monks are a toss up.

so I have a female ele, a female mesmer and a female necro, my male is monk....

my husband has 3 characters...2 female and one male.
females are ranger and ele (reason stated above) and male warrior (I made him make that one when I made my first character the ele, but its still buttt ugly).

the characters are just better looking female for the most part (some of the males are tooo bad), and male armor just suuucks. (male necro FOW armor looks more like a skirt!)

with the new factions characters, once again the female looks more appealing than the male so I will be making a female ritualist...not sure about my other half.....................
