Hello, and thanks again for showing me the build.

For video capture I just use Microsoft Media Encoder, its a free download at Microsofts site. I can make a video for you if you would like, but I would have to learn this run first

Or I could go with you and do the screen capture while you do the run either way. I think you know my in game name, as we talked through PMs before.

Actually I found a program and capped a run already, thanks anyway though.

In that situation, the one spider that is close to you is ripe for grabbing. One arrow in him, and the other two that group with it will come crawling. Don't engage until they are well back. Even if you just kill one, and have to turn on sprint to flee, then do it. Better to take them down one at a time then get overconfident. The build can handily take on 6 at a time as you will discover once you get into the tunnel itself.

In that particular situation, pull them back to line up with that group of skales (at least what I'm assuming is a group of them) that are standing there on your radar. If they start to retreat, shoot another arrow at them to get their attention again.

I would love to see your movie Racthoh. Once its all pretty and complete can u post a link in this thread?

Tried it for the first time today, died first time round. got swarmed by skales. second time round got to the cave and killed 3 spiders, then got swarmed by spiders. but i got the hang of it. here's my skill set, attributes and gear. luckily the perfect sword for this build was sitting in my storage

p.s. got one shard on the second run...thanks Racthoh *thumbs up*

Once I fill in 14 minutes of audio (watching it without any music to go with it kinda gets stale after a while), then upload I'll be sure to post the link.

I think what everyone needs to remember is to pull them back. The spiders do like to wander a bit, but if you pull each group back far enough it shouldn't be a problem. You may grab an extra group, but you should still be fine. The only time you really take a lot of damage is when you're using Healing Signet, and the 3 seconds in which you won't have Dolyak up.

Yahoo... 1000th post.

Augh, time consuming. Anyway, I hope that link works. And for the sake of time, and all I really wanted to do was showcase the build, I don't clear the tunnel in the video. Clearing the outside is a far greater task. And don't let the drops fool you... diminishing results or however that farming thingy is determined. I was doing this a lot having to show some people what to do.

Few things to note:
1. Near the end it looks like my Healing Signet was interrupted, however I was canceling it to interrupt the spiders healing spring.
2. The last two spiders I kill shows what to do in a situation when you have side by side, and how to ensure neither one gets a Healing Spring off.
3. I got careless at the end. The spider was using Apply Poison when I used Healing Signet around 50ish health. NEVER do that. Were it not for the Apply Poison, I would've been hit by a Savage Shot and killed soon after.

Enjoy

You spam Healing Signet, always have Watch Yourself up and Dolyak. It is possible... but damn, is it nerve-wracking.

The only SS I have of myself attempting the skales I took after the body vanished. It also didn't drop anything, so you'd have to believe that every group of them is in 3, and that the red dot on my radar in the SS isn't part of the group I'm attacking.

Thanks for that info on the skales guys. yeah, i dont think they are worth the hassle.

watched ur vid Racthoh, and i have to say nice. very informative. it has made me go back to the drawing board. put some more attribute points into tactics for that heal signet. looks like you have a superior rune somewhere in there Racthoh.

That's what i use. I use cleave beacuse it only takes 4 strikes instead of 6.

Yea its not in FoW, I didn't want to waste money and I didn't have enough time atm anyways.

My axe is pretty basic, and hasnt been tested on the Spiders yet (lagged and ganked by the skales).
1. Executioners Strike
2. Eviscerate
3. Cyclone Axe
4. Watch Yourself
5. Dolyak Signet
6. Healing Signet
7. Sprint
8. Watchful Spirit (Never used... damn ganking skales)

12 Axe Mastery
11 Strength
11 Tactics
^^Not online, so I might be wrong

Zealous Axe of Defense (13>50, customized, +5def)
Round Shield /// +29hp /// -2dmg Stance

Works really well from what I can tell, and I went the first time with a guildie (he was using sword version), and axe did kill quicker.

I use the wand to build adrenaline against Bladed Aatxe since it has +10% faster attack rate and +5 energy. Their Riposte and Deadly Riposte hit for more than their physical attacks, and whenever I go down to the UW I never attack them without that wand. Just thought I'd show what all my weapon sets to show I wasn't pulling any tricks or anything.

Typical run is about 2-4 shards, and usually a gold item. You sell shards for... 4kish? The Corrosive Spider Legs total to over a platinum which covers the run itself, not to mention the number of shadow items, chaos axes and such that sell for about 60+ gold each, and the last spider I kill at the end of the tunnel usually fills my last inventory space. I've seen as few as 1 chest in the run, and as many as 3 so there is also potential there. At the least, the very least I would say 8k an hour. Just keep thinking... rare chaos, rare shadow shield... maybe rare crystalline?

Also, I haven't said it yet, but I'm glad that the build is working for others and that the profit is being enjoyed. And thanks for all the positive feedback.

Just finished a run myself with an axe version of this build. I am extremely impressed with it. Thank you for bringing this to us. Lets hope the nerf bat doesn't start swinging.

Took about 1 hour and I got 3 shards, 1 ruby and a gold profit of 2,300 (after counting 1p entrance fee and selling all the drops).

My build looks like this.

first of all, mad props to racthoh for both the build and the strategy behind this run.

like some other people, i tried an axe variant of the build. my skills and stats are as follows:

strength - 10 + 1 + 1
axe - 11 + 1
tactics - 10 +1

cyclone axe
cleave {e}
sprint
berserker stance (might switch this out for "i will survive")
"shield's up"
dolyak sig
"watch yourself"
healing sig

i was mostly just toying around with the build, but i have a reason for each skill on the skill bar. some are staples, but a few are choices of my own and notice that cleave is really my only attack. a couple of people have already tried other axe builds, so it works for them. i might tweak it a little more and try eviscerate, but i opted for cleave for spammability. just go with what you are comfortable with.

racthoh covered the basic strategy and most people seem to have the hang of it. i'll just post a few tips that i noticed during my run for those still struggling.

#1 - pulling spiders
a few people seem to be having trouble with this. what i noticed (especially at the tunnel entrance) is that you really don't have to pull all that much. as racthoh mentioned, the spiders should be barely tickling you and most of the damage comes from poison. thus, it doesn't matter if 3 or 20 are hitting you. the key is to single out a spider that has ventured off from the rest. if you interrupt its healing spring, none of the others can heal it.

from this ss, you can see that the spiders are wandering. they have split up, making them prime targets:

even in the middle of battle, constantly scan around for your next targets. this ss shows a strider's train of thought in the middle of battle:

so essentially, i also had a hard time pulling groups and decided to just rush in like a mad man. i wouldn't suggest it if you're not comfortable with the build, but if you're only taking 0-4 dmg per spider, rush in to take out single targets, then sprint out to heal when there are no more solitary spiders. it shouldn't matter how many there are.

#2 - dryders
the only damage they can do to you is through wastrel's worry, which they spam. the thing is, if you use a skill, it ends wastrel and you take no damage. you basically have to spam the skills on your skillbar. if you can end each wastrel with one of your skills, you will take no damage from them at all. spam whatever you have available. you will be preventing 50-60 damage. in the tunnel, i always ran in and took the dryder's out first while tanking the spiders, then took care of those the same way.

all in all, my first run was pretty good. i got a bit sidetracked in the beginning, but everything turned out ok.

also, favor pending, expect a hammer variant for the build up soon. i really want to see what i can do with my trusty hammer "elsie" down there.

Thanks a lot for that post Strider, that was something that I didn't mention but can be rather crucial. Watching the spiders to see which ones are still under the effects of a Healing Spring allows you to carefully choose your next target.

I'm starting to think, even after recent testing myself, that pulling them may have become a bit tougher. Not sure what it is, but even I couldn't get them to spread out evenly so that I could easily engage just a single group. In which case, you could always opt for a 14 strength. This would allow for a 20 second Dolyak Signet, which equals a nice constant boost to defense, and allowing you to basically take on many at once with relative ease.

Regarding the Doubters, Wastrels deals its damage after 3 seconds. Flurry recharges in 5, Watch Yourself requires 4 hits to use. If you're using Cyclone Axe, that's only 4 seconds. They're just too easy for a warrior.

You could use eviscerate, but my guess is that cleave is there because of the shorter amount of adrenaline you use. Faster damage, more use of skills in general. 4 vs 8 hits. You do what you want to do, really.

All it would take is a single hit and you will feel just as much pain as everyone else. With Watch Yourself and Dolyak Signet (or if you opt for Shield's Up, both work just as well as is my understanding), you will be taking very little damage if any. This doesn't mean that you can take on 20 at once, as you'll find when you use your Healing Signet you will take a lot of damage so don't worry Sentao.

However it would have it's uses. For example, I find if I have too many on me that when using the Healing Signet I take a fair amount of damage. By using a stance in that situation, the net gain from the signet would be far greater. Flurry, however, gives you a greater chance of interrupting their Healing Spring since you'll be getting more attacks in.

if so i feel a little stupid... no, don't feel bad about it. pulling might be a safer tactic, but i also had the hardest time getting them to separate. i literally spent about 20-30 min trying to figure out how to pull them properly. i eventually got frustrated, and the moment i saw one spider wander off from the group a little bit, i rushed it to see how quickly i could kill it. i accidentally aggroed all the other spiders, but to my surprise, i wasn't taking any more damage than if i had pulled a group of 3. when all of the damage to you is 0-1, it doesn't matter how many are attacking you. most of the damage will be from poison degen.

it may have been a bit reckless on my part, but it worked out. just be sure to go after all of the spiders that are not within healing spring range of the others. the moment you see them separate a bit on your radar, rush that sh*t down. once you've taken out all of the solitary ones, run out to heal. keep in mind that i also have "shield's up" in my build. that helped a lot. so yeah, i may have been a "crazyass" for charging in like that. but hey, i like to live on the edge.

@anarion
i'm not sure how effective an evasion stance would be. most of the damage really is from poison degen, which you can't counter with evasion. the damage done to you is minimal as it is that evading it is almost not necessary. also, the spiders have called shot, which will always hit.

@bizarresk
the choice for cleave was one made more out of necessity. for those newer to the boards, the analysis of cleave vs. eviscerate can be found here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=49874

i was originally going to use eviscerate until the point about melandru's resilience came up. i basically didn't want to give them a chance to use it. when making the build, there was originally 3 spots for attacks on the skill bar. i added in "shield's up" and needed cyclone axe as my aoe interrupt. this left me 1 spot. what makes eviscerate so good is when you can spike a combo of axe attacks after causing deep-wound. however, as a single attack, i feel that cleave outshines it in terms of damage output and spammability.

a few others have used eviscerate, and it works for them as well. i might try adding in eviscerate and executioner's in order to compare effectiveness. i doubt it really matters though.

on a sidenote, i just wanted to thank racthoh again. this may be irrelevant to most, but in real life, i'm actually arachnophobic. getting the chance to decimate these foul beasts definitely gave me a sense of satisfaction.

edit: maybe i shouldn't be advising people to take on all of the spiders at the entrance. pulling them is certainly a safer tactic. however, if you are having a hard time with it, just know that you can kill them one by one as long as you can isolate targets.

Does "Shields Up" really make a difference? +armor vs arrows when they dont do more than 5 dmg to you anyway? Why not use watchful sprit or something to have some regen to slow poison? Hey thats my thought, but your build works for you I can't stop you. When your done with the spiders do you go vs the abysaals and shadow warriors? They seem like they can be taken down for fun And if you want to keep doing this after the next update, i suggest keeping it away from the local chat in ToA and such... If not by next update... Well that four letter word is gonna smack you upside the head Racthoh you are a smart man/woman to come up with this ...idea...(subtituted for those little kids reading).

The crucial part about the + defense is when you're using Healing Signet. Heck I think just Watch Yourself is enough to make them deal 0 damage on occasion. Shield's Up! provides not only more defense, but it also allows you to block their projectiles on occasion making it even better when you're using Healing Signet.

You could probably attempt dropping strength from 11 to 8 (or it may be 9) which is enough to still grant 12 seconds to sprint, pumping those points into Healing Prayers (if you're /mo) and using Vigorous Spirit or Live Vicariously instead of Watch Yourself!.

The entire build is what I normally bring to FoW, except in place of Sprint I bring Rebirth. Dolyak Signet makes Abyssals a lot easier, and it makes the skeletons easier because they have Wild Blow so any stances you bring are somewhat useless in that area. So I initial discovered this build after a FoW group left shortly after Restore the Temple of War and I wanted to test my meddle. Sure enough after learning the patterns of the spiders it was simply a matter of putting two and two together. So it's not just a farming build, it is an effective tanking build as well.

And if they nerf it, first thing I'll do is post the other build I use to farm a different area. Keep the cash flow coming.

Even with healing signet being used, i don't take more than 5 damage anyway. I use watchful spirit so the degen goes slower, so i can hack slash hack at them instead of healing signet every 4 seconds.... Even though i only do 50 damage per hit. a lot of people don't like it because of the long cooldown, but the way i see it, it's 60 hp of degen you just prevented. we can theorycraft all we want, but the only sure way to know is to test it to see how good it is on the skillbar. i will be testing different builds every time i go in.

but if you do add it in, you'll have to decide whether to reduce your offense or take out a defensive skill. ahh... choices...

racthoh's build and strategy is very solid. as is evident by the number of people who tried it already, there's a lot of room to play around with the build itself to suit your own play style.

My current setup is ascalon helm, gladiator chest and legging, dragon gauntlets and boots. If the reduction damage thing stands true to this day, it's working like a charm.
