did the full run last night for the first time, finally got passed the scales (i used endure pain)
the spiders themselfs weren't that hard, but it took me a long time to clear them, think i did about 1hour and a half for the complete run
rewards: 1 shard, 1 sapphire, lots of choas axes and shadow staves but nothing fancy, and 1k worth of spider legs
it was fun, i'm gonna try other builds tonight, tnx for the tip!

When you get to the skales, don't stand there and go, "Hmm.... Life transfer isn't so bad..... Maybe i'll fight them." 3 skales = 30+ seconds of - 12 degen.... Yea.... and when they use grenth's balance, have fun. Don't forget to use dolyak signet as well.... WTF do you think when you are fighing them?????

i have a gold sheild, max armor req 8, it gives em health + 41 while hexed + received damage -3 while hexed, do you think that it is worth using, instead of grognars defender? 45/-2 stance sheild?
guna try this build tonight. Nice build by the way.

are you sure you're healing often? i usually use healing sig at least twice in between healing spring interrupts per spider. i heal often, and i try never to let my health dip below 50%. i doubt that the shield should matter much. how much damage are you taking from spiders?
also, for those who are having trouble with the skales at the entrance to the beach, a little trick i learned is to make them fight the shadows. take out the driftwoods and the dryder at the entrance, and then wait there until the shadow patrol comes back. aggro the patrol, then run past the skales. more often than not, they will ignore you and fight each other. if you're daring, you can join the fight and take them all out if you pick your targets carefully. if not, just let them be. the shadows often win, leaving you a small area free of skales.
i think a stance shield is better for a run than a hex one. unless you plan on taking on the skales, you don't need the hex shield. then again, you only take on the skales when you have a death wish, anyway.

The builds works for me but only the part where the spiders just keep coming is sooo hard (atleast for me it is) maybe i do something wrong... yes thats it

Don't try to emulate what I did in the video, wait until you have done it with ease a couple of times simply by pulling one group of three at a time. When I first started testing this I always made sure I was pulling one group of three at a time.
You can pull the spiders really far back, almost to the point where the ghostly hero is on the beach, I'm drawing blanks on his name right now. Healing Spring has a 20 second recharge, as does Dolyak Signet. When you interrupt their Healing Spring, make a mental note at where your Dolyak Signet's recharge is. Until it gets back to that point again, you don't need to worry about timing your attack just right.

Just a note on the skales, after I cleared the tunnel, I took on the skales and killed every last one of them. I used my while hexed shield with -3 damage reduction and the lieutenants helm. You take 0 damage from thier attacks, and you are under health degen constantly so I dont think the size of the group matters. But I took them one group at a time. Spamming healing sig as soon as its available. The first 2 go down relatively quickly, its the last one thats tricky, you have to ease off on healing so that Grenths balance doesnt give the skale much hp.
I just used the same build that I use for the spiders nothing different except the helm. They didnt drop one useful thing and I dont know if they are even worth the trouble. I probably wont go after them again, especially since your inventory should be pretty much full from the spiders.

I'll try this tonight, my g/f's gone for the weekend, so I'll be alone with GW Thank you everyone for your posts. It looks flawless.

Great find Racthoh.
Ah, got a chance to try this last night and it went great. The first two times I was owned on the way to the spider cave by the skales (yeah don't wear the Lieutenant's Helm while running past the Dryders -.-''). However on the third try, all went well. Though my very first mob fight was the entire garrison that came out of the cave. =/
striderkaaru pretty much summed up my strategy of fighting single targets only, then backing off to wait for them to spread out, then going in again. Clearing out the entire cave probably took me an hour and a half, but it did net me two shards and a rare Shadow Staff. There's also a real sence of satisfication when you clear it.
I'm usually a sword person, but I decided to try out axes just for this, and because of the weapon I used.
W/Me (!)
Eviscerate
Executioner's Strike
Cyclone Ax (should probably change to Swift Chop or Desperation Blow)
Sprint
Healing Sig
Watch Yourself
Dolyak Signet
Physical Resistance
Equipment
Desert Collector Battle Ax (15% while in a stance)
Crimson Carapace 45/-2 Shield (while in a stance)
Ascalon Helm and Boots, rest Gladiators
Even with no points into Inspiration, Physical Resistance(10 energy, +40 def against physical attacks, but lose elemental defense) lasts 30 seconds, with a rechange of 20. Still I put 4 points to make it last a good 46 seconds. Also because it's a stance, the bonuses from the axe and shield are constantly active. With a combination of Watch Yourself, Dolyak Sig, and Physical Resistence, I find myself taking virtually no damage from their attacks, sometimes even when using the Healing Sig. Of course the main dmg comes from the poison, but it's nothing the Healing Sig can't handle. Yeah this build is defensive overkill, but it works.
Now I'm wondering if I can just replace Dolyak Sig with Physical Resistance altogether for something else... hmm...
Edit: Well, maybe I'll stay with Dolyak sig. I rather like the defense buff, with Watch Yourself almost canceling out the negative effect of Physical Resistence.

i tried that W/Me a little and took out dolyak signet for disrupting chop.
Physical resistance and Watch Yourself was enough to deflect any damage and it was actually easier because i could run easier in case i got skaled.

Actually, the forge crafter is a 15% enchanted axe. The sword is 15^50.

I did two runs yesterday and got total 8 shards plus other stuff worth about 5-6 platinum. Thanks for sharing but obviously Anet will change this place very soon.
Racthoh
When they do, we'll all do smite runs with our warriors instead. Anet can't stop the warriors of Tyria!
Also, sorry to few players today that asked me to show them how to do it. I was tired of the scenary after several demonstrations today.

Hmm... people call me noob because I use Dolyak Signet... those ppl are cute

do spiders have any elemental weakness?
is there a spiderslaying mod?
build im running only has 1 skill using nrg (flurry) so i can take out the zealous mod and replace it with somethin useful.
any ideas?
im running an axe build.

the spiders arent really hard to get to its a matter of watching the patrols and finding the best possible route. then running that route while watching out for your agro bubble

Flurry is 5 energy, and needs to be reapplied every 5 seconds. The 2 pips of energy regen from a warrior isn't enough to maintain it forever without a zealous mod.
I used Hypercam which can be found here:

For recording my session. Free download, trial period though.

im running an axe build. Spiders have +Armor vs elemental attacks. And Wouldn't be great if there was a spiderslaying mod? Try somewhere in maguuma, sounds like thats where one would be.

There are other methods naturally, however I find that it just works quite well without much thinking. If your build is condition heavy (some opt for Desperation Blow) you could use Victory Is Mine! to pump up your energy and health every 15 seconds.
If you can get one of the builds that have been posted throughout the threads down with ease, it's all a matter of tweaking your build to your own preference.

but have to say that those skale spawn points are sometimes very bad, maybe some people arent having luck with that.

yea, this farm run is not gauranteed, there will always be some bad skale spawns. so dont count on getting there everytime.
my record as far as i no 4 days farming - about prolly 15 successful runs? and like 10 practice runs and some bad spawns, made over 20 shards al rdy. im gona start keeping accurate records starting this weekend since we barly get favor on weekdays.

I tried 5 times got to spiders twice so far but It's been waay worth it. 5 shards and a gold 14>50 chaos axe. This has gotta be the most fun farming spot ever.
Komier Varen
Where do u guys get that collector shield? the crimson carapace +45/-2 in stance one? Not been able to find the collector for it. :-)
Zakarr
Ectoplasm farming at the Underworld still seems to produce more money. My best single FoW spider run had 5 shards but usually I get only 2-3 per run. There is potential to have good items but same goes for UW too. This is rather new farming place so people might want to farm there just to change boring scene.
You can also farm some of those fire drakes, smoke walkers and infernal wurms if you aggro some patrols to them and then kill all the monks and then kill the rest. I don't know how far you can go. Maybe I should check some day.

I know it is in the desert and I know you need 5 bleached shells which only the wurms drop.
Anarion Silverhand
The collector is located just north of Thirsty River, and just as Racthoh said, it requires 5 bleached shells.

Managed to get hold of a Gorgnars Defender <-2 dmg and 45 health when in a stance> fairly cheap so seem set up there. Just trying to sort myself out to mess around with some farming, kinda new at all this. Also managed to get cleave, so im gonna give it a whirl as axe spec, so wish me luck lol.
