But to avoid scammers and offenders avoiding trouble quickly there should be a fairly high charge to changing your name. This will put people off exploiting an easy name change function.
I also agree that a hairdresser would be a nice touch too. And a plastic surgeon perhaps?

Entries in the friend list are account based - should help out with any confusion. Besides, I don't think people would change the name every other day. And if they're scammers, they shouldn't be in that list anyhow.
If the change would be done in-game (probably not), a fee of 1k-5k would be ok imo.

/signed, but you can only change that character's name ONCE, or it would be abused. It should also have an in-game fee of 10k or so. That's not too much to change a character name.

I even wouldn't mind if they added an NPC who'd charge you a fee for doing so should they feel another gold sink. I'd definately pay to get a new name for a PvE character without loosing his progress. Please, ArenaNet, put this one in!

Deleted my ranger because I didn't like the name. I have never forgiven myself for it. Sad I know... I even changed some of my characters secondary to ranger and starting using bows with them because I missed him. And caught the same type of pet and gave him the same name. One day I think I will just have to recreate him. In fact, I will do it right now, you have convinced me

Well 1st of all I think, as someone said it should be allowed Once and not more, but to really avoid scammers the fee should be higher, like 100k so if no one gets a benefit from changing his/her name, but 100k is worth it to change his/her name if he wants to.

Here's my case for example:
I created a warrior/monk (cuz my fav class is paladin). Made up a name and gave him that one. Liked the name but created a ranger later on that I named after a game (only the last name). I simply wanted to try the ranger (I thought I would delete it later on) but after I got my first elites and more serious skills, I realised I actually like it. I created an Assassin, and also like it a lot. My ranger and my assassin have the same last name, and all I'm asking for is to be able to rename my warrior so all of these 3 chars would have the same last name.
I've already deleted my monk once, cuz the name was silly (but not offensive) and I liked the profession a lot. Plus I didn't put too much effort and time in my monk, and managed to change my mind in time.
With my warrior the case is different: I have all the missions + bonuses (tyria), all the quests (except the very last one in Sorrow's Furnace AKA "The Final Assault"), got all the skills for both warrior and monk professions along with all the elites, got 15k platemail armor set and a req8 max dmg gold longsword 15^50% with AP 20/20 and +30 health upgrades. I'm also over 1.5 mil xp and my char is 13 months old that I wouldn't really like to lose since he's my main char.
So all I can say again... is...

Perhaps make it so you can only change once every day/week to avoid people putting violations into there name...5k each for name change I would say. Then Plastic Surgeon/Hair Stylist 1k each, and Sex Change 5k? I think your character should be fully customizable, for the fee of course.

I don't like the idea of changing names, because a name is really the only real way of identifying a character, but I can see how people might have second thoughts about a name they picked.
I can get behind the idea of allowing each character's name to be changed once and only once. That would help people who really hate their names while minimizing abuse by scammers. If you can't get it right in 2 tries, you deserve a sucky name.

People should take a moment and think before they make their char instead, but I assume a lot of the kiddies in the game suffer from ADD!

This feature wouldn't change your game experience a bit nor it would change gameplay by unbalancing or anything.

If it were about scammers how about this: a scammer list, you open a trade a message pops up "This account is on you scammer list. Do you wish to continue trade?" A lot of problems solved

Using a chat command, like the pet one, say /characterName newname and limiting to 1 change every 2-4 months per character would work well.
This would prevent spamming and encourage a definite name selection.

Yes, /signed for sure. And there shouldn't be a charge to do it, especially something utterly ridiculous like 100k. MOST people don't have that much gold. I've had the game for over a year and only just got past 100k in my storage since I bought Factions.
