Unhappy with your character name, but don't want to lose your time and energy?

I like the idea of being able to change your name. Limiting it to X amount of times would probably be best. (Like how we're only allowed to change between American/Euro servers a set amount of times). 2-3 times would be ideal.

It's not the matter of not being creative the first time you named your character. I don't understand why some people would bash others for coming up with a "bad" name.

Some people like to roleplay. And since their character creation, they've developed a play style or a character that does not reflect the name they originally created (and intended). So why not give those people a chance to change their name to something more fitting to what they've become?

Also, what about people who happen to "get married" in game? Should they not be allowed to change their last name as well?

And being able to modify hair style and facial features would be a great feature as well. Some people might have put a lot of time into planning their characters from the start. But they might have reached a point in the game where they bought armor that does not look nice with their current hair or face. Being able to change that would be a nice addition.

Or what about players who join a guild and would like to make their character/name fit in better to match the guild theme/style?

So I definitely support these ideas. With in reason of course. No gender changing, or maybe alow just 1 gender change per character. Some people like their characters to look good, cute, etc. And some gender of professions look "better" or "nicer" than others.

How about there's one spot that's in the UW or FoW where you can change your identity? That way it'd really limit the ability to change your name.

Why not make the name change free, but doable only once every 2 months? There's no reason to be changing it more often than that.

Edit: Or just once per character. You have the option of changing it, but only once. Screw it up a second time, and well, you're out of luck.

I like the idea, but maybe a longer duration, such as every year, or every dentist appointment (Every 6 months, which means twice a year).

I would rather not have sex changes, but maybe hairstylists to change hair colors/styles too, and faces as well. This would obviously cost some fee around 10k or so.

yea hairstylist is what they need in here, that would be better than name changing IMO

Can't see it happening i'm sure GG commented on it before saying it would cause too many problems with people scamming, or something along those lines.

i think name changing is i-rellevant, but adding Titles and su/pre fixes to names may be really cool.
just like in EQ2, after killing X ammount of stuff u can get X title/suffix/prefix

suffix= can be set by PvE Kills!
prefix= can be set by PvP Wins!

about changing looks, NO, dont. maybe 1 change per char, but it takes away the bond with u and ur char
what COULD BE V COOL, is making addons to ur char, extra slots, and stuff [like fow armor] that is hardcore, but possible to get
like new tattoo, scars, a special sign on ur armor, or a floating character affect
like burning aura, and "freezing" hands, masks [more, the halloween hat is really neat], boots that r somehow similliar to greek hermes which was flying, cool in-town only addon, little boots with wings by their side that increase your speedi in-town but dont work in other areas.

the possibilities are endless really and it would contribute alot more to the content of the game not to mention status's and other stuff to do 'cept farm X and PvP. [tho it is great].

I don't know if somebody already said this, BUT what about people being reported for a serious violation or even a minor one? A screenshot wont help Arenanet find who the person is if he/she changes their name would it? If there is an NPC that tracks the name changes and saves them to a characters file that would be better, but Arenanet would have to do a lot more work to find someone.

Agreed. Would they fix it so that customized weapons would still be available for that character's usage?

Not knowing who your friends were wouldn't so much be an issue: I've added people to my list who then deleted the character that was originally on my list, and when they logged on, it simply showed their character name in parentheses after the name I knew them by.

Maybe they could place a limit on it-You know how you can only switch territories 5 times? America to Europe to America to Europe to America to Europe-uh oh-You're stuck!

I put a LOT of thought and time into my names, so it's not really an issue for me, but maybe less people would have "stupid names" if they could change them on occasion, lol.

yeah that would be cool.. you could mess with people you know and they would'nt even know it's you! like call this asian guy you know a beaverface under the name ribbeater then switch to the name irish spring and go after your irish buddy.. seriously though =] long as they are kept on the friends list- and people can't change names to drop off the list else it's asking for abuse

i always take the time to name my characters but sometimes i do get bored of one and mite like to change it. make a vendor for it so you can change it at a fee. this would also work for appearence. its not to hard since other mmorpgs ive played have done it. just pay the vendor and say an option appears on your character select screen to alter the name and appearance and such

Although it's a neat idea, it's a BAD IDEA because it will be abused and we will see way more scammers than we do today.
