For example you could have a person in ascalon to change every aspect of your characters appearance just like in the character creation screen and you could pay him maybe 500 gold or something.

I'd definitely go for it because I've been in this situation a few times (ended up deleting the characters anyhow, for other reasons). I'd say just to be safe, limit it to one change every 24 hours or something like that because I'm sure someone would find some way to be annoying with it otherwise.

Names are meant to be for recognition. In a place where there is no responsiblity, the little bit of pride associated with you rpg characters name is the only thing which could promote honor. We all have to live with our names, any name change should be at the most a one time thing.

or do you want people run around blatanly violating EULA and RoC just to change their name afterwards so their account can't be tracked back?
tip for the crowd: take those 5 minutes to think of a real name for your character before you enter some I bla³ I, T H E L E E T G U Y or whatever else.

ps: i am happy with all my names - and it's all because i spent 15 minutes on every character before i clicked "create". ^^
edit: if you really think you should be able to change the name of the hero that saved tyria *cough* -- draw up a way that will allow the unique identification of accounts: even after weeks/months... i am open for intelligent suggestions...

Well I made a warrior by the name of Axe Tornado since axe was the weapon I intended on using. However I found I didn't like the axe and switched to the sword since it made soloing easier with the damage more consistant and the sword skills (I found) simpler to work with. Now that I have a ranger I can solo with, I am currently swiching to hammer for the maximum damage output and switching my secondary to geomancer. So that will leave with a w/e using a hammer named Axe Tornado. I know, my fault for naming my character that but a way to change my name would be a nice feature as I'm sure I'm not the only person in this kind of situation. The change in hight and apperance is a bit much since it is those features that make the character unique. As the saying goes "A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet". You wouldn't be able to copy anyone elses name because it would have the same feature as when you first make a character. Limited to 12 characters and can't have a name that already exists. From what I can tell there are some pretty heafty sensors to what you can have as a name so you couldn't have John sucks because sucks would become *****.

not signed! If you can't take the time to call yourself a name you can live with you don't deserve to change it. If you name yourself Big Dumb Idiot well you made your bed and quit crying. Change your hair,skin, hair color, hat size what ever, but your name is how others know you. If you want a second chance well that is what pre is about, and if you know what your doing you can get your character out of pre and up to snuff in a few hours.

I have no problem if someone wants to change their hair, armour, or weapons. But name, sex, and size should not be changeable. You made the character, put untold hours into his/her development, have a style of play you like - be happy with that.

Name on the other hand, if you picked a stupid name or a name related to what the character then changed your mind thats your problem. Not Anets.

Sure, why not. I probably wouldn't take advantage of it, but if people want to I don't see why not. I have to admit I don't really see any incresed risks with this feature in. I change my name almost every day anyways, but with the way the friends list works noone seems to lose track of me.
As for scammers, in pve you can have up to four different character names as it is, if someone scams you with one name it's easy to go grab a different character and do it again. Changing names will only save maybe 10 seconds off that process, and if you really want to annoy the scammer just add them to your friends list and spam out whatever name they're using at that point.
As far as impersonations go, names are reserved for a period of time, I'd assume that would stay the same with this feature in. I don't really see how that would be any different than it is now. If I wanted to I could go roll up a character named Blood Light Eyes and even make a guild with the tag [EviL], noone but an idiot is going to think that I really am Bloodlight though.

You chose them now your stuck with it unless you delete them. If you truly hate the characters name THAT much you'd delete them and remake them. That or you should've picked a name you could stick with.
Scammers are just getting the easy way out. How do you report someone who no longer exists?
