The short answer is no one knows yet. Gaile wasn't sure (scroll back a few pages on this thread for an image of a chat with her). She said they "may" be holiday only, that she'd have to check with the office which is closed.

I suspect we won't know until after Wintersday - a lot of companies have closed up and gone with a bare bones staff through the end of the year.

But, I supect they will still drop next year. I think IDS came before the Christmas update and is separate from it. But that's a guess. I'm not so confident in it that I'm selling my last one.

2 today, putting me at 19 since last Thursday. Too burned out right now to try another run. Has anyone else gotten that many, or do I just have the devil's luck?

I did with PUG and friends for many times, since IDS was introduced, and saw them dropped for others and friends, but not a single one for me. I got my first IDS last night after killing just few imps. Don't give up, just keep trying.

Me and a guildie were farming at the same time while we didn't have favor, something like 15 runs staight without a IDS. As soon as we got favor back, we both received two IDS each. Does anyone else think the drop rate is affected by favor? Or am I just going crazy from too much farming?

I had 2 drop in a solo run. Favor has nothing to do with it. You guys are just paranoid. It's all luck. It seems the IDS is also an additional drop off the imps because I had the first one drop an IDS and another item.. I can't remember what but I have a screencap of it.

How exactly do you guys solo w/me style past the shadows? They are rather bothersome. I had no clue as to how fast I could burn through my candy canes.

Attack one shadow. Don't use multi target attacks (hundred blades) or high dmg special attacks. Just whittle away one at a time and keep healing yourself with all your defenses up. Use elemental resistance vs. them as well (I dunno of E. Resistance works vs. holy damage or if they do fire damage or whatever, but it reduces their damage).

They take a long time to kill but I can kill them with all seven on me at once + the annoying wanker beast. It's much easier when we have favor and you can get dwayna's blessing

Gaile still doesn't know if IDS will drop post Wintersday, but there's a pretty strong implication that the IDS is "new". She also confirms it won't go away if you already have it.

But she does say she "thought" IDS was a seasonal drop. Hmmm. I was guessing they would continue to drop but I'm less confident in my guess now...

this is pissing me off i get to the cave kill off some imps run into a mountain troll do the same old thing try to heal myself and he interupts me and i die after like a minute

is there another skill i should bring that heals orrrr can anyone else give me some suggestiosn

Watch the Trolls skill usage, watch for disrupting chop, then hit heal sig.

Suggestion:

You see troll coming. Heal immediately before he gets to you. There's no reason you shouldn't be at 100% health by the time the bugger gets within striking distance. The hit him with everything you have. Don't bother healing once you engage the troll; it's to the death. There are many reasons I take Sever Artery and Desperation Blow; trolls are one of them.

2 trolls I can see sometimes getting the better of you, but there's no reason 1 should ever kill you.

I'm not sure what you mean by not having any running skills? Do you mean you're not good at running through it or that you literally don't have running skills (odd for a ranger at citadel).

I have used my ranger for two man runs whenever I get bored of going solo. There're wa/me's there that aren't quite up to the task of doing it alone and are more than happy to take someone else. You use a longbow (fiery longbow if possible), take edge of extinction with about 11 in BM, and melandru's arrows as your elite (will hit the ones with aura of restoration up for around 50-60 damage, and cause bleeding). I also suggest switching your secondary to mo or me (mending for the wa/me if mo, elemental resistance if me).

Your full skillbar would be something similar to:
Melandru's arrows, savage shot, troll unguent, storm chaser, dodge, edge of extinction, holy veil (mo)/inspired hex (me), mending (mo)/elemental resistance (me)

There have been a few times my partner has went down and I was able to finish the imps myself. Not much of a solo build though, easier to do with a wa/me.

i was wondering if it would be beneficial (sp?) to just running straight to the lyssa statue and get the mending thing, would make healing easier and make you kill imps faster.

Imps slow you down. Ice Golems knock you down. Trolls can possibly kill you. The spawn of imps/trolls/golems/avicara determines if you will make it to the ice cave, let alone the statue. You can try it though. I think all the imps would be following you pounding on you, I'm not sure if you can take all the imps in cave at once.

i meant kill everything until (and including) th cave entrance spawn. from there you should be able to go to the statue

My elite of choice for IDS farming: "Victory is Mine!"

Combined with Desperation Blow it lands you over a hundred life every few seconds. Uninterruptible, and you don't even need to stop fighting to use it.
