CONFIRMED: Icy Dragon Sword
Gli
I do prefer using Victory is Mine! as the elite. With that, I hardly ever have to use Healing Signet. Not even while fighting trolls while I have Elemental Resistance up. I only need it when the monotony gets to me and I forget refreshing a defense for a few seconds and start taking real damage. The advantage is, you can heal while fighting and don't lose 40 armor for 2 seconds every few seconds.

nice build...anyone know of a decent w/mo build for this?...

Just watched the video a few times, boy you make getting there look easy. Can the hex helm be crafted or is it a collector thing only?

First I want to say thanks to the posters of this...great idea. (Hell might be a better word)
10 strait solo runs as of this post, no deaths, no sword...
Did some tweaking of the build kind and found this very successful, slower perhaps but I pretty much never die...ele boss spawn, following wises or ardants, shadows, bad spawns...it's all laughably easy. One one real problem; when the last group of Avacari are mixed in with the first group of Imps...only successfully done it once. Just run though all of it with charge and Ele Resist until the Avacari close in on you for the physical attack, hit sprint then try to wait the hexes out with a Lieutenants Helm, don't heal sig just keep moving. Anyway my stat spred.
War/Me

Lieutant's Helm (no sup runes on then for running)
Glad's Chest(for mana)
Glad's Legs(for mana)
Ascalon Boots(for absorption)
Ascalon Gloves(If you don't care for matching go platemail for more def)
Weapon:
Max Axe with +7 ele defence and double adrenal on hit(don't need zealious)
Crimson Carapace
I'd just show photos of all this crap if I had any room left to upload photos .
I've done it multiple times...Charge into him with Ele resistance on...Deadly Swarm does 4 damage lmao...lightening does somehting like 130 dmg I think, the Lieutenants Helm takes care of the rest(NO SUP RUNES ON)...when the rest catch up from the slow down hit sprint to cancel the Ele Resis as you don't need it any longer and physical is your problem then just keep trying to run away...dont' stop to heal yourself just keep going and pray...every time I have made it I've had like 10 to 30 life, I have screens to prove it if you need.
Trolls are cake...just make sure to use heal sig RIGHT after they savage and you're good to go. I've killed two trolls while being attacked by that damn octapuse thing, 7ish imps and 4 shadows...just spam heal sig constantly, spam defenses constantly be on the look out for savage slases and use a weapon skill to cancel out your heal/defensive skills so it's canceled instead...you know doble click. I think I had the blessing on at the time...don't know if I could do two trolls without it. I have done all that with one troll without the blessing and I had dead people in game if you need proof.

Can't imagine how that killed you). Trolls, you just bleed them from the onset and keep them bleeding and hope DB lands a deep wound. Heal only when taking that chance means life or death.

Nice Job
I also can solo with a War/Me But I use an axe and I don't bring charge. I can make it to the cave just as fast as you did with charge and sprint. I then have an elite attack skill for the imps. It takes about 4 hits with my axe skills per imp so the bleeding helps but isn't necessary. Also there was on part where you followed the road and you could have just cut through the trees and avoided one of the groups. I enjoyed your video very much good work.
also are you the guy in the Leroy Video? Sounds just like you LEEEEEEEROOOOOOY!!!!!

My guildmate and I finally got one today. He got the first 2 and I got the 3rd, that bastard. Anyways, I'm keeping this one and if I get another one, I'll just sell it for whatever that person is willing to pay for it.

I have been selling my IDS swords for 60k each, and they usually sell in less than 2 minutes. Most of my customers seem very satisfied and one of them even said he will keep buying them from me at 60k a piece if I get more. I can get 75k for them if I have the patience to go around all the towns spamming, which I have done once, but I'd rather continue playing. The sword itself isn't spectacular. It's essentially the same as the Droknar Weapon guy's sword with an Icy hilt which cannot be removed. However, almost everybody wants it for the coolness factor (ecto should be worth 100g each, their merchant value, since Fissure armor does not improve your fighting ability in any way, but that's never going to happen), which is why Granite Citadel is full of people spamming LFG IDS. After some people figured out a solo build (Wa/Me), ANet nerfed the drop rate so even soloist have to do something like 5 runs to get one of them (according to many reports on the forums and my personal experience). For people who cannot solo, they must join 5-6 man farm groups, and at the rate of one sword for the party every 4-5 runs, it takes about 20 runs for someone to get one (and it takes a very long time each run). It's much more economical to pay prices as high as 80k than to spend two days doing IDS runs, because 80k can be made RELATIVELY quickly with some of the known farming builds posted around the forums. For example, it's possible to do 4 Mountain Troll runs faster than an IDS run (it takes me about 5-7 minutes for a troll run). Even if I make a extremely modest estimation of 1k per run (you probably make 2k-3k just in gold drops and selling items to merchant), that is 80k gold already, not counting the chance of getting some really good rare item. Simply ignoring what the IDS does for a moment: Many people are willing to do IDS runs all day to get one. Just that fact alone makes the item very valuable, because they can save hours of time if they buy it. You can think these people are crazy, and maybe they are, but that is the reason why the IDS is worth so much (the same is true for Ecto and Shards, Fissure armor is more worthless than the IDS, which at least has the perfect 15>50 mod, but it's worth well over a million gold). |
Nicely put, could have said it better myself

I use 16 sword with Hundred+Galrath+Final. 11 strength and 9 tactics. As long as you position your self to get maximum effect from Hundred, this mows down Imps very quickly. Usually the last few Imps only need a casually swipe and they are dead I can kill the Ice Beast without interupts. I swap my hat for max health on the run though.
I've found what I lose on the run with only one 12 sec sprint gets made up easily kill the Imps quickly.

I just did my 70th IDS run... 21 solo...
I started the first day this post came up...
I used my monk healing then smiting then prot...
then went to my ranger and used barrage in a few groups..
I SAW well over 40 drop while in groups none for me ( I was mostly monking and playing my ranger)
I then finally gave up on groups and went and changed my wars secondary and started solo runs... I had no trouble getting there and killing all the imps I just didnt get jack for a IDS...
( I did clean house on CC shards..)
Im giving up... I may break down and buy one and farm the plat back with my monkey ..........
good thing they nerfed the droprate seeing all those drop in the first few days had me excited... u know the law of averages and all seeing 5 drop in one run.... then I get some time during christmas and christmas eve to do a few runs .. see some more drop...
then 15 solo runs .... not a dang thing but CC shards......

I farmed ettins for 3 months and always found at least 1 gold armor every run. Once people caught on to and more farmed there the drops lowered.
If you know a secret farming spots its best just to keep your mouth shut. Either the drops will be lowered or your build will be nerfed.

this is my list of WILL and WILL NOT for ids farming:
when you have the option of taking to high short road or the long low road.. it really doesent matter.. because if you take the high road you WILL die on one of two bridges. because frost doesent work on avacara. and you WILL die if you try to hang around and interupt the iron mist spell from the bosses.. if you take the low road. you will die under a pile of boulders cause even with whirling deffense on you will still get hit by giant stomp you WILL be knocked down, your whirling deffense WILL end and you WILL DIE.. lets say you make it to the cave... hell even i did a few times... if the ice imps are outside the cave they WILL be accompanied by mountain trolls and ice golems and avacara( i have the screens to prove it..they were all there at once) and if you try to do like your told and poision the trolls first and run away then repeat untill they are dead.. well you WILL NOT live very long.. cause they do not aggro alone.. about 6 imps come with them and ice golems..( i have the pics to prove this aswell).. and what happens when you shoot then run when you have aggrod a group of imps because you shot at a troll that was like 30 feet away from them..thats right they use their spell and slow your ass down to a snails pace. you WILL NOT get away. and now you WILL NOT survive 1 troll 1 ice golem beating on you and 5 ice imps wanding you.. So lets say you get to the cave and ice imps are inside... yay this is the magic spawn.. cause you get to kill like 5 ice imps..but you WILL NOT kill the massive group mixed in with trolls and ice golems a little deeper in the cave..
and after all is said and done.. you WILL NOT be happy.. you WILL feel like snapping the neck of whoever put this crazy idea in your head.. and you WILL feel like shit cause everyone and there mom can solo this and you cant... some may ask why post this thread, its so negative.. well i heard so many amazing stories about success in ids hunting. I wanted to get one too.. not just for the sword.. but it feels good to be able to beat somthing on your own.. i memorized the route.. followed the recomendid skill and attribute settings to the T...bought the fur armor for the added deffense.. Switched classes from a ele to a mes just for this ... Everything was perfect to the T...and i failed. so i just wanted to give others a little contrast and realism. to decide if it really is worth the 28 fur squares and over 250 tanned hides.and the lost ours trying just to fail.... and if me failing and crying like a little bitch on these forums makes me a shitty gammer then so be it.. but i had to say something.. let the flames begin

You can do it without the mending with the build I was using...just focus on your def, keep all the prot spells up and heal every round...if you've been trying any of these builds you'll know what I mean, you start to get into a repetitive combination...i full set = round. And if your healing can't keep up with the damage...stop attacking for a few rounds...usually about two or three. I've killed 7 shadow with 10ish imps and the damn Ice Beast on me...btw I can't kill that ice beast, though maybe if I used disrupting chop instead.

not a couple..i have never given up that easily..i would say more along the lines of 20 spawns and growing.. and i only made it to the ice caves two or three times... did i ever say i was done in my original post..i just dont think its worth it anymore.. i never said i was giving up

What would be cool now would be if we got to dual wield. Fiery dragon sword in one hand, Icy dragon sword in the other...it would look really pretty!

One thing I don't understand is why the IDS would be limited to a winterperiod when the FDS is not limited at all. Shouldn't the FDS be limited to the summer then? Some how without the full statement from Gaile about what sword she was talking about I have a hard time seeing them removed/discontinue the IDS after christmass.

Just a little off topic but this build is sweet for almost any ele based monster...for example:
