I heard all those horror stories of people getting scammed out of gold, items, etc. I *knew* it would never happen to me-no, I was too smart for that. I was dead wrong.
Well, I was having a good day yesterday. I broke a few financial records, etc. In fact, I had enough money to throw around, that I thought "what the hell, I'm going to buy a Razorstone". So I bought the Razorstone, and a bit later I get kind of bored with it and decide to sell it back for around the same price (79K-It was 77k before). Well, suddenly, a monk in the Warcamp named (Name removed for his/her privacy-more like security) comes up saying ''i'll buy''. I put up the axe, she puts up the gold, she cancels, saying that her inventory is full, and to try again. (This was late at night, and my sister was behind me pestering me for no good reason) So she says ''Try again'', I open the trade with her, put the axe up, distracted, I look in the general direction, see a "79", click accept, and the rest is history. I went to the storage agent to deposit the money, expecting to see numbers fly. I saw a small jump. I immediately checked my inventory, 0 gold. Then my stomach started to churn. I checked the chat logs, ''Traded (Name removed for his/her privacy-more like security) Razorstone for 79 gold." I immediately messaged her, threatening to report her, heck-I even offered her 30k if she would just give me my axe back (Knowing that all this was futile).
She ignored me for a while, until I saw another guy in the War Camp say ''Hey N W do you mind giving me my axe back?!?!?". A few minutes later she comes back and offers an invite (which she used to find me on the map). She comes up to me, /bow's, and says ''sell ur armor'', (which actually made sense, since I had 15k plate on, dyed black) and then she signs off. Poof-there goes 77k. Now, I am not nearly as ticked at her as I am at myself. In fact, I am not even going to report him/her. Wow, Anet might suspend him/her for 3 days. It won't make much of a difference. She played her cards right, and she won the loot. Needless to say I will always quadruple-check the money values from now on.
I'm not making this thread for sympathy, nor do I want to hear ''n00b, pwned'', it's your fault, etc. Why waste the skin cells on your fingertips to re-iterate what I just said? I am just saying #1: Watch out for N W in the War Camp and #2: Regardless of the situation: always check the price until your eyes bleed. I don't want you all losing half of your fortune in 20 seconds.
