I recently went out to buy a superior absorbtion rune.

So I traded 11,000 4 steel and he didnt think it was enough so he canceld the trade. He brought it back up
put in the "MINOR" absorbtion rune, they looked the same so I figured "Dante Fuego" could be trusted so I gave him 11,000 gold, 4 steel, 1 Major rune of absorbtion and 1 minor vigor rune. What is going on with these people this used to be a good game.

I continually see people selling armor. I confront them and if there is no resolution I just ignore them.

Simple solution. Double check the item before clicking "Accept".

Yeah, I always double check the items and money in the trade window to make sure they're correct, even if I'm familiar with the icon I check anyway.

Ya but it should have to come to everyone in teh game having to recheck the items everytime they trade. If a banning act was issued then people would think twice before scamming. Its not right of course but I was expecting to play a game where people would accually play right but it seems people cant quit being iditios for once and play fair. Like 40-60k for sigil is a scam. Hmm but do any of you guys have a superior rune of absorbtion.

Alright, here's a solution that doesn't depend on the player:

Have the item description automatically displayed in the trade window and make the gold amount box larger and more conspicuous. The trade window would obviously have to be redesigned to accomodate these changes, but it seems it would reduce (and perhaps eliminate) an individual's ability to pull off some of these scams.

I think it should be understood that selling an item to a willing party for more than the going rate is not technically a scam. In such a transcation, the seller and customer are complying with previously agreed to terms. A scam is only when a player uses some form of underhandedness to cheat another player, such as surreptitiously swapping out an item for one of lesser value, or entering a lesser but similiar gold amount in the trade window (such as 1300 instead of 2300) in hopes that the other player won't catch it.

Now you might object to someone taking advantage of another's ignorance by selling an item for more than it is potentially worth, but that is not technically a scam.

I'd like to confirm that scam, actually being the less than good person that i am, i take advantage of the ppl scamming, by saying no no no til they drop it down to 250 or so then selling it for 500 good way to make money off of scammers, even though i can be called one myself. not my fault for taking what ideas pop into my head.

This game is already built to avoid scams. Just having to trade people discourages many would-be scammers. If anyone has ever played ROSE Online, it's similar to Ragnarok in many ways. Players set up shops, and soon an item worth 44z (like gold) was being sold for 441z, in the hopes that people would not notice the one. And many people didn't. By being forced to actually trade with another player, it gives you the opportunity to check the item or gold amount, and prevents "accidental" inflation.

=---WATCH FOR THIS---=

Player places item in window, you inspect item. He closes item says "woops" resubmits item but this time it's a "customized" for another player item with the same item name.

As you know, you can't use it since it's customized. Just thought I would post this here. Since sometimes people hit accept before looking again.

Quick note on the person who mentioned the "you drop, I drop" scam someone perpetrated. That particular instance may have been a scam, but I found myself having an issue trading with someone in my guild. He didn't have an I.D. kit, I offered to i.d. it for him. He traded it to me, I I.D.'d it. When I went to trade it back to him, we'd both hit accept, but the trade would cancel. After about five tries at this, I we finally got fed up and I just dumped it on the ground for him to pick up.
Again, you may have been scammed by this guy, or it could be that he really was having issues trading the stuff to you.

Wow. Read the whole thread and I swear, all I can think of to say is, 'I can't believe people still fall for this stuff.' I'm all n00b here, but have been playing MMOs and such well, longer than I care to admit. =/ Generally speaking, I only trade with my partner and since he sits by me while we're playing, he knows better than to try anything.

I have bought and sold dyes thusfar in this game, and it never occurs to me NOT to check and recheck before accepting. Habit, really. The idealist in me thinks it is sad that honest people get taken like this... but the cynic and pragmatist in me shrugs and says, 'At some point, you just can't feel bad for those who will not make the effort to protect their investment.'

I put the money in trade window then he closed it ...says he is sorry and opens it again, everything seems fine then i slide over to the fiery dragon sword and its a plane 11-18(i think) dragon sword, that guy tried to scam me! Good thing i have this habbit of double checking items ever since diablo 2 scams.

i havent been the victem of a scamm (luckily)
but i have heard of ones like that which stinks. i know right now what things i want to get. and how im going to get them. i dont think the items i want are able to be scammed unless someone is selling it for much higher price trying to rip me off. all i dont know about is what the best ranger bow is and what the best ranger armor is...if i found that out i would start getting my dyes ready.
if anyone knows add me on guild wars to their friends list and tell me please or just send me a pm.

I saw another casino scam today...

I think every casino is a scam. Either they will run with your money, or they are stacking the odds against you. (Probably both.) It's just not smart, kids.

I think they need a way for people to set up legit casinos... it's a cool idea.

As for the scams, I'm going to repeat what a very very few people said. I entered this thread thinking that it was warnings about people breaking into or hacking accounts. These kinds of scams are inevitable and a realistic part of any virtual world. I'm very happy to have read about these, and now I won't be suckered by them, but they add color to the world, they add life to it.

I could, however, do without people who refuse to play as a team or people who are too aggressive and insecure, leading to retardedisms online...

It is very easy to beat/bankrupt any legit casino with enouth of a bankroll. just duble your bet every time you loos until you win then start from the beginging again.

IE start at 20, 40, 80, 160....

Doing this you will get all the money you have lost up to the point were you wont plus the equivalent of what your starting bid was. Using this method all it take is time and you will take all their cash.

It mathmaticaly imposible for this not to work. On an casino if you win you almost always get duble you bet back when dubling you bet every time until you win the sum of all you bets including the one you made when you finaly win is equal to 2x-n were x is the bet that you made when you win and n is th value of the bet you initally started with. Thus everytime you reach the wiing bet you actually win the amount n thus, if you repeat the prossess over and over again you will win all moeny you bet plus n as many times as you repeated the cycle. If you repeat it enough you can take any casino bankroll all thought it takes time if you do not have a very large bank roll or if you have a small inital bet. All you have to do is make sure your bank roll is going to last until to reach that time that you will win with dubling you bet every time.

Also note that the formula can be shifted to suit any betting situation with diffrent payoff scales. This is the reason why almost all RL Casinos institue min/max bets at tables.

Actually he's right. Assuming you have more (quite a bit more) money than the casino, even if the odds are against you, you'll crack them open.

Essentially you take advantage of the fact that most casinos offer their bets as open- you control when you start or stop gambling. Quit while you're ahead. With superior resources, probability states that at somepoint, you'll be winning-(but most of the way there, you'll be losing. Alot.)

The less likely the odds of winning, the higher of a multiplier of their wealth you need.

(Other than max bets, the biggest reason this doesn't work against real life casinos is that they do have more money than you.)

I've seen so many people doing the Ashes scam its sad. I always just openly flame them though, and they just go:

"No, ask that guy, he says it works when I sold to him."

"No, its a scam. I've been playing for a while, and seen this scam for a while."

"No its not dude, ur gay."

"Do you like D2?"

"H3ll ya3h"

"Go back."

Every time I go in I see people scamming and they just keep going on about how its not a scam.

Just a suggestion but maybe some one should make a chart with recommended prices or a program which you could input what your trying to buy

When im selling stuff i usually end up asking guildies if im getting scammed or not.

Anyways is 300 gold each for two hilts good becuase i think i under sold them :/

It's just a game. As long as I'm happy with the price (whether buying or selling) I could care less if I'm technically under selling/over paying.

I have a really simple way of not getting scammed. I don't buy stuff from people. We have one guy in our guild who enjoys selling things and he's fair. When I run across black dye or anything valuable, he gets it. And yes, we trust him. Furthermore, if I didn't find it or it wasn't given to me, I give it to guild members who need it. "You need a sword, but have two kick butt pommels and can't decide? Here... I found 2 15-22 swords. Take both." And if no one in the guild can use something? It's given away.

The only time I sell things is when they're too valuable to give away to someone not in the guild. Minor runes are 100, Major are 200, Superior are 300. If I am getting ripped off, so be it. 30 minutes of farming and getting 2 plat is time better spent than selling something in town for 30 minutes.

This game works alot better when you help folks out. At least that's been my experience.

anything I have that I don't need/want is either given to my guild (given free, regardless of item value) or salvaged. of course, I haven't started getting really valuable drops yet and I have a tendency to hoard upgrade components and dyes... but if something drops and a guildmate wants it (and I don't need it) no questions asked. Added that our guild is small. If I was in a 100 person guild then I'd probably only give to those I knew well and sell to the rest.

My guild saved 40K for a sigil to buy a guild hall. I had never seen the picture of a celestil sigil before, so I traded with this guy who ripped me off with a family sigil. That's right, a family sigil.

I was looking to join a guild with a blue cape w/ a dragon on it. (it HAS to fit my armor!) and this guy said he had a guild with that kind of cape and it had a website and "free items worth up to 800g" but it had a entrance fee of 800g... i am a newbie so i of course gave him 450 g (which because of my love of blue dye was all i had) and was going to get more. he kept asking for my "most valuable item" luckily i only had customized armour and a quest item left. well i was out to get the rest of the gold, and he put me on ignore. of course its only 450k, went hunting and got it back in 4 minutes

LOL! I got scammed and bought those damn ashes not long ago. Oh well, 200gp lost. I just felt a little dumb for a minute.

But for the ones that scam, there are that many more that are cool. I was looking to buy one iron ignot, I just didn't want to wait and some guy took a minute to just give me one. He didn't ask for anything and still threw in 10 gp for him for the effort. I figure that's still cheaper than paying 200 for 10 when I only needed one. So props to him.

I know for a fact I'm totally underselling things, but I would rather just get rid of than try to get the highest price.

I'm Not Exactly sure if this could be called a scam but i see this going on in Lion's Arch a A Lot. high level players that have been in the crystal desert or shiverpeaks taking collectors items and selling it for Some nice money.

Warning to low level players in lions arch if you see people trying to sell you goldy blue items they are probabaly collectiors items.

End game Collectors offer max damage Weapons and max energy focus with 20% skill and and faster cast in a single attribute line if you see ppl selling these items be warned.

They might be worth it if you cant wait to get there but dont overpay for these "godly" items.

at best i would pay 2-3 k for the items 1k to obtain the collectors items and another k for the trek to get to the collector.

Navaros you should be ashamed of yourself.

Why would you be crying over 200g? It takes about 30 mins to an hour to get 1p.

Someone tried to sell me the ashes, but he said he wanted 2p. I told him that I would rather work for the ashes on my own than pay him 2p for something that would cost me nothing to quest for.
