Extinguish is actually pretty good on an ele.. helping the monks out against those anoying mobs that spread like. 3-4 conditions on everyone.
For EotN I have been using mindblast, searing flames, and glyph of renewal based builds depending on the situation.
Im pretty sure you can go back into the crevice even if you don't have the quest active =D
