I don't think monks are going anywhere, anytime too soon, or even in the future. Like said before, monks can remove hexes/conds/prot/spike...
My ranger actually kills thing within seconds. In PvE and PvP. It's not *that* hard to make a spike ranger build

Nice, I've had drops like that happen. Kind of rare imo.
