If you really want a different weapon for a ranger why don't you use a weapon from your secondary class? You still get all of those bonuses...

Because there is no reason to have that. It would be annoying to have that pop up, especially if you didn't pick up multiple items in a row...

The developers made it so items went public, so that if someone didn't want that item, he could just leave it and someone else could get it....

Someone dieing and then you blackmailing them to get their item is probably (and if not should be) against GW rules.
