Well there is 1 quest with waves and waves of monsters but it's in Nightfall that's the only quest you could have mistaken this for and...

Are you sure it wasn't a quest that took place during the dragon festival or something because I don't recall quests in the beginning area...

Do you at least remember the area the quest took place in?

If you already have Prophecies and Factions you can not buy the trilogy pack because that is all 3 campaigns. You will have to buy Nightfall...
