To just connect accounts you need any GW1 account and GW2 account. However connecting them only gives you 3 points. To get more points you need...

The best way is to simply follow the storyline, do other campaigns if not done yet, do GW Beyond (HotN and WoC), work on HoM and GWAMM if desired....
