Well my drops from these chests have improved every time, I've only ever had one purple drop as well. I have never had a gem from any of them...

Just opened over half of them for the third time with my Ranger and got pretty good results including a perfect bramble shortbow. Only one purple...

I get this too, it will happen frequently for a couple of days and then I wont see the problem again for weeks. I have always put it down to lag.
